But what is the point in selling a guy like Pato ??
You have a wonderkid, if you sell him, umh 50M € for example, who will you get ?? Are you going to try to replace him by one established star (if it is to do that, let's keep Pato and let's just be patient, in one or two years, he will be the best in the world), or are we going to use that money to buy 3-4 good players ??
The first choice is useless, the second choice is just stupid as we would just kill our season before it started (yeah we would have a bench, but our whole team would be some kind of equivalent to Genoa or something like that, no wonderkid, no star, just a good team playing to be in the Top 4) ...
Even with Pirlo and Gattuso, they are needed regarding their experience of big games and CL ... selling these two players would just make us looking like a kind of older Arsenal (Borriello has no experience, Pato still has no experience of the very high level but he is young, we don't have to worry for him, Thiago Silva has no experience too).
Our best years were when we had young players + experienced ones ... we already have the experienced players, we should use that money from the Kaka' deal to get the young players. Let's imagine there is one wonderkid (or a bit older, until 23yo) for each position, so GK, defence, midfield, attack (we have Pato + maybe Dzeko + why not Paloschi, so no need to buy any other guy then), that means using 50-60M for 3 wonderkids who will learn from the older ones.

Pato will not be sold. Come on guys, get a grip.
I don't think anyone else will leave, and if Pirlo and Gattuso stay this year, they will most probably retired in Milan. Next year they will be 31 and 32 respectively.

I was just replying to the ones who said that we should sell him if the price is like reports mention it to be ... it would be like suicide for the club (at least for the next season and maybe the few following ones).
So all of Mattioni , Sheva and Senderos officially gone too. Interesting loan moves, little achieved.
Anyway, let's see the good part of these loans ... they were not purchases !! :D
(wow imagine if we bought these players ?!)
Sad for Mattioni who didn't have the right to show what he was worth whereas he was introduced like a very good player ...

Congrats to Leonardo who has gotten his Masters degree. He's said Pirlo and Pato won't leave as has Galliani, who has all but confirmed all key players will stay (Pato 100%). Galliani has also said Sheva, Senderos and Mattioni will all leave. He also said should Dzeko come our 2 Non EU players will be Thiago Silva and Dzeko.
This is probably known information here, but I wanted to say I'm glad these guys are finally talking and starting to shoot down all the rumours, it's really about time. Also glad to see that trio leave, especially Sheva and Senderos.
We need to plan ahead. Having thought of late, I would be tempted to go for a list of players consisting of the names Dzeko, G.Rossi, Santacroce and Bochetti or Pisano. This wouldn't be the final list (let's not forget players like Abate and other needs). Whilst my list is not full of big names, I think it has a lot of quality and would really strengthen our squad in areas we need it most. G.Rossi is a player I'm really keen on. A few years ago whilst at Man Utd Rossi said he's a Milan fan and I said at the time I hope we keep an eye on him. He's now maturing into a high quality player that would be an interesting link with Pato supporting Dzeko. I'd make him and Dinho compete for a first team spot in that regard. A guy like Hernanes would be useful but given the EU situation, I'm hoping we can wait till next year.
You are right but we weren't spending money last year either so there was little chance of them being purchases :D
Congrats to Leonardo who has gotten his Masters degree.
A Master Degree offered !! :D
I want one offered too, it would allow me to stop my studies right now instead of still doing 2 years to get this Master !!
PS: MilanMania don't offer a Master to some of the forum users ?? :D

Seriously 2 years for you MA geo tav mine was only a year and a half, the half being time spent on my dissertation. It could be worse at least leonardo wasn't offered a honorary degree like most lazy celebrities. Does anyone want a sport sciences degree unless you work for a big football club like Milan it won't do you much good.
PS: MilanMania don't offer a Master to some of the forum users ?? :D
Good idea for a user title (where it says 'registered user') :D

Hmm I forgot about that, so we can buy an unlimited number of non-eu players playing in Italy?
well, it could be said so.
Not trying to burst your hope or anything, but I am 100% sure Berlu wants a straight cash deal.
Beside with CR7 going to Real, I think one if not two of VDV or Sneijder or Robben will go the other way.
VDV and Sneijder would be nice, lets add Johnny Heitinga to that list, and we'll have another Dutch Trio again. They worked well in Ajax together, why not Milan?
So..it seems we're just like Real Madrid but only on a minor scale...sniffing the global market and buying the products we want and need :D
So, Galliani says Milan isn't interested in Cassano and bitches about the tax system (Isn't Berlusconi the Prime Minister? Can't he do something to get tax exceptions for footballers?).
AC Milan's Galliani Denies Cassano Interest, Bemoans Italy's Tax System
Adriano Galliani does not believe Cassano is needed at the San Siro, instead desiring a 'prima punta'...
11 Jun 2009 16:36:15
After admitting that AC Milan may drop their interest in Wolfsburg star Edin Dzeko after having their initial bid turned down, the Italian press have indicated that the Serie A giants could go after Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano.
However, vice-president Adriano Galliani does not believe that type of player is required at the club.
"When he was at Real Madrid we thought about this idea, but then rejected it," he informed Milannews.it.
"Above all we need some more power and weight up front, because we already have that [playmaker] role covered with Ronaldinho."
With Cristiano Ronaldo on the verge of joining Real Madrid, Galliani commented on the Primera Division outfit's free-spending ways, as they already purchased Kaka from the Rossoneri earlier this week.
"I repeat this is all a matter of different types of taxation. If we were a Spanish club, we would have saved €40 million."

If I had a nickel for every time Berlu or Galliani moaned and groaned about Italy's tax system, I'd own Fort Knox.
Notice that no other Serie A team brings this up to the media ad nauseam as they do?

Sir Alex Ferguson managed to remind the player last summer of the contract he had to honour, the manager's visit to the player in Lisbon doing the job in the end. But there are only so many times that such powers of persuasion can come to bear and there are two decisive factors in United's decision to relent on this occasion: the club's debts of around £700m and the fact that the player has not been the force he was when sweeping all before him and scoring 41 goals in 2007/8.

That's the same thing almost everyone here said 1 month ago about Kaka! The bottom line is, if Pato cannot be convinced to stay and demands a transfer, they'll sell him. It's not liklely, but it's in Pato's hands, not Milan mgmt. They've boxed themselves into a corner now.

I honestly don't think that's the case. Pato will stay. Management are not that stupid.
Well in that case everybody who is a 'star' can transfer to Real (and the (at most) handful of other teams who can spend) Real's roster will have 60 players :D
Even if the management are that out of it even transfers out has a limit :)

I think of him as the George Steinbrenner of La Liga. :tong:
Regarding Pato, I think it's very unlikely that he'll be leaving this summer, but to be perfectly honest if Chelsea were really willing to pay 45 million pounds for him I think I would do it. That's more than 75% of what Madrid paid for Kaka and well more than half what they're paying for Ronaldo. That's an incredible sum for a 19-year-old who isn't yet a complete player -- no matter how enormously talented he might be. That said, I can't imagine that Chelsea would pay that much for him. Even when they were being criticized for all their spending, they weren't spending more than about 20 million pounds on players. And since they were burned on the Sheva deal, Chelsea seems to be trying to live more within their means anyway. Sure, Abramovich could sign a check and think nothing more of it -- but so could Silvio. I think Real Madrid (obviously) and possibly Manchester City will be the clubs most willing to pay outrageous sums. Other clubs are going to take the economy into consideration, at least to some extent.

This is true and that has certainly made him even more hesitant. I'm sure he would be willing to go the extra mile if there were a great player who became available that the brain trust thought was absolutely necessary, but he didn't become as rich as he is by being stupid. All the clubs should be a little more mindful in these times. Even Real Madrid -- and I know they think they have an unprecedented cash cow going -- could find themselves walking a tightrope because of all the money they're throwing around if the economy in Spain continues to get worse.

Pato was considering Chelski, not Real - although I'm sure he wouldn't turn Real down if they called.
"Star" players are far and few between. Hence, the claim made is an exaggeration. I wouldn't include Pato in that "star" catergory, but he does have potential to be a star.

Wolfsburg warn AC Milan off Dzeko

Source: Football Italia
German champions Wolfsburg insist they have no intention of selling highly rated Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko to Milan.
The 23-year-old finished the season with 32 goals in 34 appearances and won the Footballer of the Year award in Germany.
Yesterday, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani admitted the Rossoneri are very interested in signing him this summer.
Dzeko did more than reciprocate, telling the Press he is ready to move and has always dreamed of playing for Milan.
However, Jurgen Marbach, the Wolfsburg director general, appears unwilling to listen to offers for his prize asset.
“Dzeko is unsellable. We do not want to sell the player,” Marbach said. “Today we will announce that we have not had any interest in him.”
However, despite Marbach's assurances the Italian Press is convinced a deal for Dzeko will eventually go through.
And now we complain how RealM are destroying football

And yes, it would be a bad move to dump Dida right now. Want to rely on a crippled Abbiati, Kalac (meh) and some unproven signing?
To think that management gave an extension to Kalac after his fifteen minutes in '08, and got one Serie A match and half a friendly in return this season. That was a huge waste of greenbacks in itself.
which available young player is on our radar able to "try" fill the Void left by Kaka?
Hazard, comes close but he still to green and unexperienced but if we give him a real chance, with Ronnie as our n° 1 and Hazard to fill in for him, who knows...
Although he is another player Real wants to buy aswell Zidane said he would take him to Madrid without hesitating. I think Real wants every position 4 times covered.
Cassano is also mentioned but I don't hope he'll come.

You are right but we weren't spending money last year either so there was little chance of them being purchases :D
Is it really that unrealistic. I mean it will cost fair amount (say 50-60m euros for all?), but considering we just got over 80m euros in just two sales and could yet sell the odd player more (Oddo I would think) surely we can get these guys along with others like Abate and maybe a guy like Mariga.
I didn't get a chance earlier to explain my reasoning behind these transfers. I really think we should aim for a change in our play, more in style than in structure. I think we should maintain with a back four, but with two attacking fullbacks. Both of the youngsters mentioned are capable attacking fullbacks, but also Thiago Silva, who the more I've looked up on seems capable of the role. Zambrotta will still be here, so we know for certain we can attack in the wide areas. With a central partnership of Nesta and Santacroce, we'd be able to build a solid back four imo with a mix of experience (Nesta, Zambro) and youth (Silva, Santa).
The mifield shape would for me have two ball winners, Flamini and Rino, who between them are capable of covering a lot of ground and Flamini is capable of pushing forward if needed. In front we have a playmaker with Pirlo (a role Seedorf can also understudy), whereby he'll have freedom to move and at the same time, utilise his vision and his passing ability.
Then I'd like somewhat of an attacking trio up front, with Rossi, Pato and Dzeko. Dzeko would act as the head of the attack with the other two supporting. Rossi and Pato would need to develop a good understanding between them to work together, but with their differences in movement, such as Rossi's natural tendency to move a little deeper and Pato's movement in the wide areas, we should be able to fit the two into the side together, which would benefit Dzeko who will get more space and less markers around him.
The concept of the system would fit with Leo's idea of using wide areas, as fullbacks will be able to push forward with a fair amount of freedom, and the attackers (mostly Rossi and Pato) can move into wide areas at will. So the shape would initially look like this...
-----------------Abbiati-------------------
Silva------Santa------Nesta-------Zambro
----------Rino-----------Flamini-----------
------------------Pirlo--------------------
--------Rossi---------------Pato----------
-----------------Dzeko-------------------
However, players will be free to move a lot around the pitch. My thought was based on the idea of triangles throughout the pitch, and the system is designed as such. For example, you have the obvious triangulation of players like Rino, Flamini, Pirlo and Dzeko, Pato, Rossi, but also triangulation in other areas like Silva, Santa, Rino or Nesta, Zambro, Flamini or Pirlo, Pato, Rossi. This idea of triangulation would be based on the initial shape, but players would be free to move to maintain this concept throughout the field (for example a triangle formed with Silva, Rino, Rossi when moving up the right), thus resulting in a tighter unit where players are always supported whether it be in attacking moves or defensive. It's based on concepts used in Dutch football history, in particularly at old Ajax teams.
I think we should build a game on lucid attacking play that aspires to using a strong team unit, rather than building the side around individuals.

getting rid of dida is a must there no way he will accept a 2 goalkeeper role and he hasn't done enough to deserve to get Abbiati place. Plus Dida earns roughly 5 millions a season at milan which is ridiculous for 2nd goalkeepr. In 5 or 6 years dida would have to retire anyway and it is not like the prospective goalkeepers Milan are after are untested. Merchatti had a international appearance for italy a couple of days ago. as for other signing dzeko would be a fantastic addition as well as mexes or santacrose to back up the defence. Milan can't really get a replacement for kaka it more likely that milan will change it style of play.

Funny, he did just that this season until Abs got hurt, and never complained about it.
Anyway, I didn't say Dida deserves to be #1 over Abbiati, because Abs was clearly the better keeper this term. But with Abs on the shelf through the start of the 09-10 Serie A campaign, Dida is the only legitimate option we have at the moment until Abs gets back to full fitness (and likely takes his spot back), and he proved he still has the horses to get the job done. Therefore, he should be allowed to stick around for a last hurrah, because we could do far worse for a backup.
This is the last year of his contract (4, not 5 mil per), and I doubt he'll go on beyond that, as he is getting older. He can't really be blamed for signing the last big deal of his career that Milan put on the table before they suddenly cried "financial crisis" two years later.
My issue is that with all of Galliani's face-saving wheeling and dealing and his search for The New Kaka currently going on, a new GK seems pretty low on the totem pole for at least this summer. I doubt we're going to pony up to Cagliari to take Marchetti off their hands, but I'll gladly be proven wrong.
OK, I'll quit rambling now. :)

1) I thought he already accepted it with Abbiati playing for most of the time before he got injured.
2) What makes you think a GK who earns 5mil to be willing to let go without a severing package that will be equally expensive?
3) Based on that logic, we shouldn't ask to buy Buffon.
4) That's the problem. Merchatti's GK is pretty awful that night.

I'm so glad that Man U has accepted the offer for C.Ronaldo because it shows that Milan is not the only team that is willing to sell their star, and these so-called stars are willing to go so long if they are paid well, including the sane-like Kaka`.

ADRIANO GALLIANI: "Milan will be absolutely competitive"
6/11/2009
MILAN - Here's what Adriano Galliani, Milan's delegate administrator, said today at the Lega Calcio: "Milan will absolutely be competitive. For each player that leaves an adequate replacement will be found. Maldini left, Thiago Silva arrived. Kaká left, an important player will arrive. Milan are not dismantling. Until today, aside from others who didn't play much, players like Emerson and Senderos have left, as well as Shevchenko and Mattioni who haven't been re-claimed."

jeff and blacktop my objection to dida has been his inconsistency over the last three seasons ever since the flare incident he has been a completely different player. In any case if you dida is more talented now than abbiati no doubt but abbiati is a better all round goalkeeper and if you dida is a good all round goalkeeper i would seriously question what you think determines a quality goalkeeper. Actually dida has spoken out about being benched this isn't a long term solution frankly after his behaviour last season and tendency to get injured leaves me serious doubts that he will not be a good number 1 for Milan. In addition he was awful in the uefa cup games appearances some of the decisions he made were horrific leading to easy goals or the defence having to defend though out the game. The most compelling factor is that he was so terrible in 08 that kalac replace him and conquered the position for remainder of the season. I don't like Abbiati i don't like his political views or the way he approaches games but what he does is inspire confidence in the defence and make some fantastic saves. The most important point to make is that Carlo played abbiati in front of dida at every opportunity this suggest that Abbiati was stronger in training than dida. Finally abbiati has been consistent for the last 2 years relatively low percentage of mistakes made and a lack of re- occurring injuries make him the nature 1st choice keeper. Can you guys seriously contemplate a situation where dida will be number 2 to abbiati for the next 3 season?
dont be silly i don't think just because merchatti player for italy that he is fantastic or that he should be Milan next goalkeeper because he has a italy cap. It is the fact that he has been so consistent over the season that he call up and start over players like amelia. Merchatti much potiential than dida cost half in wages and isn't a mentally weak like Dida. There really isn't much more Dida can offer Milan with strong goal keeper like abbiati and be better for milan and better for the player to move on.

I have to say that I actually think this formation would work bar one thing, Thiago plays in the centre of defense, so unless you want him to change his natural position, I'd say put down another Winger there, otherwise play 3 in the back with two wingers from midfield in support.
-----------------Abbiati-------------------
Antonini------Silva------Nesta-------Zambro
----------Rino-----------Flamini-----------
------------------Pirlo--------------------
--------Rossi---------------Pato----------
-----------------Dzeko-------------------
This would be a more believable map. And I can actually see it working, assuming we buy the two up top.
Now the actual problem with our team lies in our backup. We lost half of our bench in the last week. What do we do to get like-for like quality to sit on the bench? Rather, who do you want so that we can replace quality with quality during the games, and in case of injuries?
Right now we have
Borriello
Ronnie
Ambro
Bonera
Kaladze
Jankulovski
Chop and change to your hearts content, I'm really interested in everyone's ideas.

Eah right, Galiani:Maldini has gone T.Silva has come
Kaka has left an important player will come.
How can you replace those 2, if you only wonna replace those 2 you should spalsh at least 150M!
T.Silva and Hernanes or Dzeko herhaps are a **** infort of Maldini and Kaka.
By the way why we are going to make a competitive team? If we splash at leat 30-40M we are again in depth!
We sold Kaka just to erase the depth if we try to use at least the half that money on transfers we are again in red.So what the point of selling Kaka when you are again in red?
Sell the club to the arabs, they now what has to be done.
Perhaps, but with high profile signings like Kaká and Cronaldo, they might recoup their spending within a couple of years, with the added publicity and jersey sales etc.

The main problem is that for Kaka for example, Real Madrid will earn 76M (from a British study). They spent 65M. Ok, so they will get 10M thanks to this purchase on these 6 years.
But what is not said is that they have to spend on the wages too ... so these 9*6 (without tax) = 54M to spend on the 6 following years that will directly come from the TV rights etc ... but as they also got C.Ronaldo (same problem with even higher price) and are willing to get other players of that kind and who are maybe less "sellable" merchandising speaking (Ribéry is not a superstar for example), they are going to lose money anyway, contrarly to what said Perez.

This would be something what Leo was talking about....new tactics with using wingers rather than a trequartista
Perhaps, but with high profile signings like Kaká and Cronaldo, they might recoup their spending within a couple of years, with the added publicity and jersey sales etc.
And that's the frustrating thing with Berlusconi's reluctance to buy players: If he invested properly he could earn money, both by the team winning trophies and by raising Milan's profile in general (again shirt sales etc. etc.). But our dear "sugar daddy" is more concerned about counting his pennies.
Certainly that's what Real Madrid is counting on. But how many people can afford to pay $100 for a Kaka jeresey or a Ronaldo jersey if they don't have a job or if their working hours are cut? Things may get worse before they get better and if the economy is really in the tank there will be less income from merchandising, fewer ticket sales and even the possibility that some corporations will have to cut back on the luxury sky boxes. Even the television money that would be assumed to be locked in for the length of the contract might become unstable, as we're seeing with Setanta. I think Madrid is taking a gamble.
As for Milan, the biggest problem is that Silvio, Uncle Fester and Carlo all fell in love with the players Milan had and refused to believe they couldn't all be Paolo Maldini and play until they were 40. Very little was done to groom replacements and as the older players signed new contracts or other contract options were triggered, the salary burden only grew. Loyalty and love for what your players have accomplished is fine, but sometimes hard, cold business decisions need to be made. Even now it seems that Milan is reluctant to cash in on players such as Pirlo and Seedorf while they still have value. So we watch them grow old at Milan rather than sell them and use the funds to buy younger, more dynamic players while reducing the salary burden at the same time.

All the latest comments from Cristiano Ronaldo etc. makes me proud of being a Milanista. I know Kaka left us, but unlike Cristiano Ronaldo he has only praised us, saying that he'll always be a Milan fan. I just have to respect that, if Real Madrid played Milan I would still cheer for Kaka, even though he left us.
The fact that we have someone like Maldini makes me proud, but we don't only have Maldini, we have Baresi aswell or Billy. Then we have someone like Leonardo who's a true Milanista even though he 'only' spent a few years at the club as a player, or Boban. Bottom line is that even though we sold Kaka, we'll still be the greatest club, and although some people may slam the 'Family' thing that's going on, I think that it's something to be proud off.

Goal.com has Milan interested in Gallas. I HIGHLY doubt this to be true. I'm getting the feeling that since the Dzeko deal has been snubbed by Wolfsburg, that Milan are turning their attention back to Adebayor. Remember, last week Ade's teammate Nasri said "Adebayor is going to Milan". We may be seeing this next year:
---------------Adebayor---------------
----------Dinho--------Pato-----------
In all honesty, with a strong midfield behind and defense behind this, I think this is a major boost, ESPECIALLY if Dinho goes back to his Barca form from 2 yrs ago.

What about this:
---------------------------Adebayor-----------------------
-------------------Dinho--------------Pato----------------
-----------------------------Pirlo------------------------------
--------------------Gattuso--------Flamini--------------------
----New LB?---Nesta/Thiago---Santa/Mexes----Zambro----
With Zambro and a new LB pushing up the flanks, I think we can have a good defense along with A LOT of attacking potential. My only concern is the depth of each position if this is what the team is thinking

The bold part is the key point in what you said. I don't know how possible that is, but if it does happen then our attack is more then set. The Dinho at Barca IMO is easily better player then C.Ronaldo, Messi or Kaka. Having that beast of a player back to that form would totally put us in the favorite position for many things.....especially if we boast the defense as well.
Like I said, I don't know how possible that is though. Some have totally given up hope while others still think it can happen. I personally hope for the best and hope that we are all surprised by the Dinho we see in September. And even if getting back to that shape is difficult, hard work can make anything happen and if Dinho is willing to work and has motivation then why not. After all, even if he doesn't go back to that form and gets to a decent enough shape then Dinho still is a player more dangerous then many out there and capable of producing multiple 100% scoring chances in a game.
Let's wait and hope for the best. I for one refuse to write a 29 year old off the books. All he needs is hard work, although as easy as it sounds, that seems hard for him to do.

correct me if I'm wrong, but when Leo said "wings" he meant attacking fullbacks a.k.a. wingbacks. right? that's why they said everything about Maxwell coming to Milan, etc.

Yes, you're right. Although we don't know his plans for Ronaldinho and Pato. Does he see R80 as drifting left, or will he play behind a front two? Will Pato be a second striker between R80 and big man, or off to the right?
Trequarista:
------Dzeko-------Pato
--------------R80
Ronaldinho would probably have lots of problems maintaining a physical presence in this position. He has to run and track back a lot more, and I don't know if that's the best way to get the most out of him.
Pato deep:
---------------Dzeko
----R80
-------------Pato
This assumes that the responsibility for replacing Kaka would fall to Pato; not as a traditional playmaking trequartista, but as simply playing deeper to receive the ball from Pirlo and charging forward from before the final third. He does this a lot, and having him get more of the ball would help prevent him drifting out of games. We'll also get a hell of a lot more fouls. Of course, the great advantage of this is that he wouldn't be giving his back to the goal, and would be facing THE DINHO most of the time, so one-twos with him are easy (something that became a trademark of Seedorf/Kaka)
Pato as winger:
-------Dzeko
----------------Pato
R80
Pato would play on the outside of the big man, hoping to feed off of flicks and overlaps from the full backs. He can still cut inwards and shoot, but he's acting almost like a winger here. I don't know if this is the best use of him.

Not a lot happened. To be honest, Real always spend big and seems to always have money to spend, while Milan never spend big and always seem to have no money to spend and complains about taxes..... Why the heck is that?
Real is really shaping up to be a good team in my opinion.
Come on MIlan, it is time to sign Toni, Gallas and Pannuci. Just kidding.
Really wish it is September now, so I can see who is in and who is out of Milan.
I am not exactly sure how Real is shaping up like a good team by purchasing two players in a department filled with attacking talents such as:
1) Raul
2) Robben
3) Kaka` (what a mf)
4) Huntelaar
5) van nis
6) C. Ronaldo
The defense is going to suffer again and again and again, just like what happened every single year.
I am just wondering, why arn't we going for Carlos Tevez? The guy wants to leave United and he would be an ideal replacement for underperforming Sheva and aging Inzaghi. I have always wanted Tevez at Milan since his Boca days as the guy is simply a beast and a fighter all the way, something that would give opposing players problems throughout the game. Real just signed our best player and signed the best player in the world last year for a world record fee, and yet we can't manage to buy one world-class player, and yet owned by a multi-billionaire. Pato-Tevez partnership would just rock the boat!

Well, Van Nistelrroy is leaving.
Raul is a part-time player.
Saviola will be leaving.
Well, with the two Diarra and Garcay coming in. Their defense is not as weak as people think.
As for Tevez, I mentioned that awhile ago, but I guess a lot of people here might not like him as much as Dzeko.

I like Tevez. LOL.
Seriously if we don't sign him, many clubs will including Juventus, I read in a local newspaper.
Don't forget Higuain in that list of attacking players that they have.Anyhow, if he is listed then we should definitely look into it if we haven't signed a striker until then.
I am just interested in who they will sell. They'll also sell players for cheap simply because they want them off their wage bill now that they know they won't use them....and besides that the whole world knows that they'll sell (or in other words just force those players out)
If anyone has a list of the players expected to leave can you please post it. (a concrete list taken from a quote from their management or even a newspaper) I can kind of figure out who will leave Madrid, but was wondering if anyone has a more certain information.

Beside RVN and Saviola, there is really none.
WEll, if Real does manage to snap up Villa, they will have Villa, Raul, Hunteleer and Higuin as strikers. With Kaka, CR7 as Attk mid. Sneijder, Guti and VDV as two way midfielders, Robben as a winger, Gago and the two Diarra as def. mid.
We all might think thats too much, but if you look at Milan last sept. Team had 4 strikers, Pato, Borreillo, Sheva and Pippo. With Kaka and Dinho as Attk mid. Seedorf and Pirlo as two way midfielders, and 4 def midfielders in Flamini, Gattuso, Emerson and Ambrosini.
The only difference is that, Real's team actually have quality while some of Milan players are washed up; Sheva, Emerson and to some extend Dinho(as he was not fit at all).
If you look at the record, Barcelona not only wins because they have a strong attack (>100 goals), but also because they concede little (35 only).
Real? 52 conceded.
If you look at Milan this year, Goal scored is 70, SAME as Inter. Goal against? 35 while Inter has only 32.
It's AMAZING how conceded three goals difference = 10 games. What the data suggest is that either we win HUGE (e.g., 4-0, 5-0) or lose like 1-0 or 2-1.
The problem is thus not the attack, but more because of the defense.
***
Berlusconi saying that Milan can't defend the lead is utter non-sense, and it's a virtual slap on his own face.
It's HIM who decide to bring in Sheva and R80 when we most needed a DC. Of course, we don't need to say more about this.
***
Thus, I'm not sure if 'catching' up Barcelona in terms of scoring is sufficient. In fact, Real's defense is utterly alarming, and it takes more than just a few players to fix.
When they bought Cannavaro a few years back, they thought the solved the problem. Same old.
The reason that Barcelona is capable of conceding so few, to some extent, is because of their ability to contain the ball, but that requires high-skill midfielders (coupled with strong defenders), NOT just attacker.
I don't see how putting Kaka` + r80 + Pato together actually made us having more possession. Lots of time it's Pirlo - Kaka` - Ambro/Gattuso with the wing backs.
***
The bottom line is I don't even know why Real is making the same kinds of investment they make a few years ago with big players, only to be likely to miss out again. That would be my prediction.
But of course, I might well be all wrong.
J
Jeff.....I don't think defending the lead had anything to do with us needing a CB. It might have helped sure, but it wasn't the issue IMO. Berlusconi is right when it comes to that because he blamed the tactics for that (not being able to hold the lead). He is right because we took our foot off the gas way to early whenever we were leading. When I say took off the foot from the gas I don't mean we should still be all out and trying to score, but on the contrary we should look to move the ball around and keep possession. Make the other team chase the ball around and therefore lose their shape both defensively and offensively. Instead, we were defending.....and not only doing so in our own half but in front of our very own box.
Just for an example...look at the way Barca defended their lead against Man U. It was that same exact way that Milan could defend a lead 3/4 years ago and we were widely praised by all football experts for the way we could spread the ball around.
To do that though, you need to move the ball around fast and then move and open up fast. Interchanging of positions and 1-2s all over the field. The static midfield that we've had for the past 2 years is not able to do that right now. So this brings us back to square 1, and essentially I think you are right in a part of your statement......that it is Berlu's fault for not reinforcing the squad at the right time.

I don't kno if anyone brought him up here, but what do you guys think about Moussa Dembele (from AZ).
It seems like chelsea/genoa are in the running for signing him, but others teams - including Milan - are also interested.

He's young, very talented, he holds on to the ball very well and has a really good dribble.

I have to say that I actually think this formation would work bar one thing, Thiago plays in the centre of defense, so unless you want him to change his natural position, I'd say put down another Winger there, otherwise play 3 in the back with two wingers from midfield in support.
-----------------Abbiati-------------------
Antonini------Silva------Nesta-------Zambro
----------Rino-----------Flamini-----------
------------------Pirlo--------------------
--------Rossi---------------Pato----------
-----------------Dzeko-------------------
This would be a more believable map. And I can actually see it working, assuming we buy the two up top.
Now the actual problem with our team lies in our backup. We lost half of our bench in the last week. What do we do to get like-for like quality to sit on the bench? Rather, who do you want so that we can replace quality with quality during the games, and in case of injuries?
Right now we have
Borriello
Ronnie
Ambro
Bonera
Kaladze
Jankulovski
Chop and change to your hearts content, I'm really interested in everyone's ideas.
My reasoning behind Thiago as RB is based on his attributes. Technically he's very good for a defender, has pace and is capable at running at opponents if need be. Let's not forget he started his career as a Right Winger, then DM, then RB (I think) and finally CB, so it's not necessarily a role unknown to him.
I probably would be more comfortable were we to get a fullback who could be a starter immediately (not convinced Antonini is up to the task), but I felt it would become a lot to ask for in one mercato.
I think our bench is pretty good if we add quality to the starting lineup. You've not added Seedorf (potentially excellent coming off the bench) or Pippo. Them, added to guys like Dinho (well, he's in competition with Rossi for a starting spot), Bonera, Borriello and Janku adds a lot of quality on our bench.
We'd still need to strengthen, but it's manageable imo.
It's a shame we can't have both Hernanes & Dzeko, unless one of them has a secret EU passport somewhere.
A part of me still thinks we should wipe the slate clean and have 1 summer of mass changes rather than gradual tinkering that gets us nowhere. If Pirlo & Gattuso really want to go then let them. We could get £30 million for those two and considering their age that's a great amount. Donadoni is also calling Ambrosini so why not let him go to Napoli in deal with Hamsik.
Clichy, Maicon, Sneijder ... all players we could make use of.
I know we'd be getting rid of high profile players, but i think it's a time for new heroes and new leaders on the pitch.
Additionally, when did we let Mattioni go?

Yes' this is correct, but for the time being, we have no wing backs unless some of the youngsters which are meant for return turn out to be "non worthy".
It might happen they all end up like Gila...or Gorky (but that's another story completely).
For now, these are the players that are good enough IMO, but I didn't hear any rumors about signing defenders or full backs at the moment.

Sorry for repeating, I made a mistake. It should have been: "unless some of the youngsters which are meant for return turn out to be "worthy"."
Gazzetto dello sport ran an interview with Dunga where he talked about Milan wanting Miranda and Hernanes.
Il Milan vuole Miranda ed Hernanes. «Grande difensore il primo. Potente e rapido. Non soffre nell’uno contro uno. Una qualità che fa la differenza. Ho un debole per il secondo. Ha la grinta di Gattuso e i piedi di Pirlo. Da prendere subito».
Roughly, he says Miranda is a great defender, powerful and fast, good in one-on-one situations. And he says he has a soft spot for Hernanes, who has the grit of Gattuso and the feet of Pirlo.
While I know Hernanes is a great player, I can only laugh when Dunga says "he has a soft spot" on Hernanes... coz he plays some players that are twice under Hernanes's class...
I think there is a way to sign both Dzeko and Hernanes, I read it somewhere.
Im really hoping we'll sign both of them becouse we are not desperate for good players. To be real, at this moment, Milan cant go to Camp Nou, Old Trafford, Stanford Bridge... and play an equal game to these sides.
Also, players know Milan sold their best player and firend, that he never wanted to leave ( I have some news from Italy, I have no time not to tipe them ). Players are angry and dissapointed by Milan and maybe Silvio will now invest a normal ammount of money.
Also, the X-files mistery for me is the fact that Santacroce still hasnt been signed by Milan, Juve, Barca, United etc. He is my no.1 wish for a CB.
About Thiago and a RB place: We already discussed it in here for hundreds of posts. Also with Brasiliero who knows a lot about the player. I have always defended my statemant that Thiago can be a great fullback as well as CB. He is not a CB like Bonera, that man has extreme speed and extreme shot. Also the touch and cross. Im 100% convinced that Milan's best defence would be:
---Thiago-Nesta-CB-Zambro-
------------------------------------
News about Perez: Real will earn 70mln from Kaka' commercials, sales etc. in ONE YEAR!! That is how competent Galliani is...

The Dzenko deal seems difficult since his team doesnt want to sell him at all. I read on Tuttosport (not an all too reliable source, albeit) that we are interested in Benzema as an alternative to Dzenko.
Sport Mediaset and Corriere dello Sport talked about possible sales of Gattuso to Chelsea, and that generally our whole midfield is potentially on sale. It seems like we are extremely close to Hernanes.
I also read on DN (a reputable swedish newspaper) that Real Madrid apparently has a debt of 400 million euros. But since some Spanish clubs (Real and Barça, amongst others) are like cooperatives instead of joint stock companies like in Italy and England, they dont have the same pressure from their funders....
You really ask yourself how a club in dept can be spending 200 million euros on a transfer market......
Here's an English language report about the Benzema link:
Benzema next on list as Milan up ante in Dzeko transfer stakes
Author: Andrew Allen
Posted on: 12 June 2009 - 11:08
AC Milan are apparently willing to test Edin Dzeko’s desire to move to the San Siro by hinting that they will bid for French international Karim Benzema if the Bosnian fails to hasten his exit from German side Wolfsburg. Both men have been heavily linked with summer moves with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all mooted as possible suitors.
The Rossoneri are known to be admirers of Dzeko, the Bundesliga’s top scorer, but with his owners maintaining their desire to hold onto their prized asset it appears the Milanese hierarchy and fans are growing impatient as the £60m received from the sale of Kaka burns a whole in their collective pockets.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Adraino Galliani confirmed:
"Wolfsburg responded to us, and although Dzeko is out first objective, we have two or three targets.”
Karim Benzema has repeatedly insisted that he is willing to stay at current club Lyon for one more season, despite the French club not qualifying for the Champions League. Eager to hold onto the 21-year-old before cashing in at the end of next term, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed this week:
“Benzema will leave Lyon next year. He doesn't feel like leaving in the season that leads to the World Cup.
Despite some resistance emerging, reports in Italy claim a €35 million bid from Milan will break Lyon's ball and chain hold on the striker. Previous reports have claimed the French side will accept nothing less than €50m. With Sir Alex Ferguson also flush with clash following the world record sale of Cristiano Ronaldo it is possible that a bidding war could ensue.

Welcome back Jim, not seen you in ages (here or msn). I would love both Hernanes and Dzeko, but it seems impossible. My hope would really be to get Dzeko immediately, and pave way for Hernanes' transfer for next season (get an agreement in place but agree to let him stay in Brazil next season).
I'm up for major changes, but I wouldn't let everyone go right now. I think consistency is important in the squad and trying to change too much in one go will put far too much pressure on Leo to try and get it all together in a couple of months.
Clichy I'd love, Maicon too, but I doubt Inter would sell. Sneijder's talented but I'm not sold on him tbh, would rather get Hernanes.
We let Mattioni go in the past week it seems (along with Sheva and Senderos). It was actually us not keeping them at the end of their loans.

I agree we must keep in mind our youngsters. I mentioned I want Abate back this summer in my post earlier and Di Gennaro is a possibility (especially if Seedorf leaves). Let's not also forget Paloschi who is currently in Parma (I think he should remain out for another year) and Antonelli (not sure how he's doing). Then of course Albertazzi will come through and there's Darmian, who really needs a year out on loan.

Let's not also forget Paloschi who is currently in Parma (I think he should remain out for another year) and Antonelli (not sure how he's doing). Then of course Albertazzi will come through and there's Darmian, who really needs a year out on loan.
DO you mean Antonini, not Antonelli? Yes, Antonini deserved his spot in the first squad due to Janko's inconsistency, but has been injured for a while. He is now just fully fit. Dissapointed at Mattioni's lack of playing time. If he returns to Gremio, it would be a waste.
Don't forget about talented youngsters out on loan. The return of Abate will add a new tactical dimension to our team. He is a very good player. Also, Di Genarro will prove to be good back-up for ROnaldihno, who Galliani seems confident will play a major role next year.
Sorry, did i introduce myself. I'm Eric, and am obviosuly new to this forum!

Abate is definitely a player with huge upside and tremendous speed, but do you guys think he's really ready to step in and play a major role for Milan?

When Carlo was in charge, he said the only thing that was barring Abate's return was his non-suitability to the tactical system in place. If Leo has different ideas, and he will, then why not? Carlo was not doubting his skill, but his suitability to the team. Then agaain, Carlo doubted Gourcuff, which will prove to be a foolish decision!

I hope you're right. If he's ready to be more than just a situational player he could provide a lot of pressure from the right side and would allow Milan to focus on building in other spots.

For the love of god i hope you are right as well! Blame me for being pessimistic, but i can hardly see Berlusocni bringing in many players apart from those on loan. He will treat these guys as new signings, as well as the returning Boriello. Chuck in Trezegeut/Toni, and you have a stuffed up transfer season! Okay, maybe i went too far!

Silvio and Uncle Fester keep saying they will spend the money from Kaka on new players, so we can only hope they are smart enough to realize the opportunity that presents itself here. One thing that gives me hope is that they seem to value Leonardo's judgement. And there have at least been links to a lot of the type of players Milan needs (Dzeko, Benzema, Mexes, Hernanes, Miranda, etc.). They seem to be wanting to go in that direction rather than down the Trezeguet/Toni road.
I have doubts about having Maranda. No racism involved, but Brazilians are not renowned for their defensive capabilities. Just one in Silva is enough I reckon. Get a Italian like Santacore to fill the hole.
I know Leo wants running full backs, so why not get an ace left or right back?
If Galliani was feeling extremely stingy, this would be the bare minimum that i would demand of him!
Buy us a young talented back-up keeper (perhaps Mandanda, Bruno of flamengo etc.)
Get us an experienced (late twenties) full back
Bring back all out on loan, and promote certain Primerva players.
That is all I ask. Anything else is up to you Galliani! Just don't buy old "champions," i beg you.

This will make me happy for this mercato:
- An ace centerback (Mexes, Santacroce, or Vidic)
- An ace fullback (We have Zambrotta for either side, so a left or right would be fine)
- A young, big center forward (Benzema, Dzeko, Adebayor) that we can get at a good price.
- Young midfielder with potential
After thinking about the Kaka transfer for a few weeks now, I could care less at this point. Real are loading that team so top heavy that their defense looks extremely vulnerable. I have no doubt that if Milan play the mercato smart and load up our defense, I would have no problem putting money on my Milan to beat Madrid head-to-head.
The big IF is whether or not Milan are going to play the market correctly.

Real Madrid: A group of champions doesn't necessarily mean a team of champions.
Yes, getting Vidic would be a dream, but i think you can wipe Adebayor off that list. He is far too expensive, and would demand excessive wages.
I am sure, with the addition of a few youngsters, that our midfield could match any in the world. The defense needs to be seriously looked at though. If you have Senderos and Favalli playing in the first team, there are obvious problems.
The attack is a bit thin with kaka's departure as well!
Sorry to change te subject so quickly, bu this article makes me sick! :yuck:
Kaka's Sale To Real Madrid Has Balanced The Books - Milan CEO
The Rossoneri board are satisfied following the economic benefits after receiving Spanish gold for the Brazilian superstar...
12 Jun 2009 13:07:04
Milan chief executive officer Fedele Confaloneri is licking his lips following Kaka's sale to Real Madrid earlier this week, and he is delighted with the funds provisioned from the sale.
The Brazilian ace move the the Santiago Bernabeu for a €67.2million fee on Monday. Reports before the sale claimed an eventual move was inevitable as the club wanted to bring their accounts in line with its economic policies. Confaloneri's words seem to suggest that was the reason behind the ace's sale.
"Kaka's sale has balanced the books at Milan and the directors did well," Confaloneri told reporters at a meeting in Milan as reported by Il Corriere Dello Sport.
"Certain offers have to be taken into consideration."
The chief is hoping new coach Leonardo can emulate the success enjoyed by former coaches such as Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello.
"We still have a nice team with younger players and a young coach who can be the new Sacchi or Capello," concluded Confaloneri.
Salvatore Landolina, Goal.com
Brazilians are not renowned for their defensive capabilities
The fact is that nowadays, if you try to give names for each position in defence, you will have Brazilians each time:
RB - Maicon and Daniel Alves (for me, Maicon is more complete because he defends better than Alves)
CD - Alex, Juan, maybe Thiago Silva, Lucio
LB - It's the only position I don't know who could be quoted as the best player ...
Firstly, who the hell is Fedele Confaloneri ?
His comments make me want to spit on him. After all us Milan fans have been through, now he feeds us with this crap! The highlighted parts are there obviously for you to see some of his ridiculous comments.

RB is definently best position for Brazilians, because of the attacking nature of the position, but CD, i have to disagree on.
There are far better CBs out there than those listed. In saying that, i am not taking anything away from Brazilians!:hopefull:
Hernanes is being described by Dunga as having Gatusso's grit and Pirlo's foot. He is encouraging Milan to buy him, as well as Miranda.
Sounds promising!
Maybe, but give me names ...
Except Nesta who is the best defender in the world and who can't play an entire season anymore, I can hardly find an outclass defender ...
Santacroce is maybe the best prospect in Italy (with Chiellini), but he still has a lot to prove, and you know what ?! His origins are ... Brazilian !! :D
In England, I can't find any excellent defender except Vidic (but he never played with someone else than Ferdinand actually at the highest level, so it's maybe just their duo that is excellent), Touré and Alex.
In Spain, I just see Puyol and Piqué as excellent defenders (I rate Piqué a lot more highly than Puyol).

If Alex is so good, then why is he not ahead of Terry and Carvahlo at Chelsea? Just a friendly point. Anyway, read my Dzeko post. I am knocking off now; getting late in my country lol! Seya in less than 12 hours, if you'll be still awake!
I am eager to see what will turn up with our young players, Abate, Di Genaro.......
Hopefully we could get 1 or 2 good players which cost nothing.
If Alex is so good, then why is he not ahead of Terry and Carvahlo at Chelsea?
Just a choice from the coach ... with Ancelotti, Alex will be a starter for example ...
Flamini is a better player compared to Ambrosini (I think noone is going to contradict me ?), why did Ambrosini play more until January ?
Gourcuff is a better player compared to Brocchi, why did Brocchi play ten times more than Gourcuff when they were both in Milan ?
It's all relative to the choices of the coach (Ambrosini over Flamini, or Carvalho over Alex) and also to the environment allowing a player to shine or not (Brocchi over Gourcuff, etc) ...

Me too! By the way, when did Galliani say we rule the transfer market? Anyway, last comment, then i am going to sleep seriously!:faint:

The problem is that most of them are co-owned ... so we will have to pay to get them back (of course, not too much).
Paloschi is co-owned with Parma for example, and like Parma and Milan don't manage to negotiate a good deal for both (both teams want Paloschi), they are probably going to have to both make an offer, and the team offering the highest fee will take the player (the other team will receive the money).

It's just my frustration with our beloved baldie :1avs:
Good to see you too buddy, been ages since we've talked, hope life is treating you and your wife well :5ok:
I guess there's an argument for doing either scenario, a full wipe to give new players alot of time to gel together or minor editing to let each player bed in gradually.
I just think our midfield has come to the end of it's cycle, it shouldn't be made up of Ambrosini, Pirlo & Gattuso anymore, time for some fresh blood. Flamini and then any other decent midfielders (you know the names) should be where we have our focus.
Unsurprisingly, Clichy is now being linked to Madrid, so i expect to see him & Maicon in a Real shirt at some point this summer. I knew we sent back Senderos & Shevchenko but i didn't realise Mattioni was only a loan, i thought we bought him.

Probably Manchester City after what I've heard. Just rumours though... Think he will be way too expensive for Milan these days.

With Ronaldo gone, they're saying there's now a good chance Tevez will stay at Manchester United. A few years ago, I was really hoping Milan would get him as a replacement for Sheva, but now he and his handlers are too mercenary. He's a great player (truthfully, I'd rather have him than Ronaldo because of the effort he gives all over the pitch), but for Milan I would rather have someone such as Dzeko who wants to be at Milan for more than money.

Probably not yet I'd say, but he can surely be a worthwhile squad player given his Serie A experience and quality. Whether he'll ever be able to step up and become a starter is another matter.

Nope, Antonelli. He's young and I think we loaned him out (or he's now on co-ownership). Plays as a LB and was considered our big prospect a couple of years ago.
Good to see you too buddy, been ages since we've talked, hope life is treating you and your wife well :5ok:

Life's good thanks.
The problem for me is changing our midfield would be one thing, but we're going to have major changes for the new season up front and at the back already. To also change the midfield in amidst these other changes may become a step too far. I'm think Pirlo and Rino do still have enough for another season or two, and during that time we can hopefully get some fresh faces to take over their roles in the long term.
Any news about where will Tevez go?
Manchester City were linked to him last that I know.
Possibility of some good news and boy are are we due some..lega calcio are meeting today and one of the things on the the agenda is increasing the number of non-eu spots to 3, ringing serie a in line with la liga.
May pave the way for the signings of Hernanes and Dzeko. Fingers crossed!!

If we can get them combined for 40 mil euros + one more defender in the form of (Zapata or Santacro.) we really should be happy, and I think we will be competitive enough at least for the Scudetto,as I have a feeling next year Inter will push really hard for the CL in the expense of the scudetto.
Maybe a LB is needed badly, but there arent any good ones around

Milan are pursuing Dzeko at the moment limiting any kind of deals for the dutch players at real. Madrid set out a target of spending 210 million euros in the summer transfer window they are not at the point yet were they need to sell players in order to buy. Anyway they are going to want a decent price for the players so reports of these stars being cheap are grossly exaggerated. In addition Milan are attempting to buy a young squad of players who are injury free. Robben and sneijder both 25 are obviously injury prone players and as for hunterlaar he will stay at madrid unless some one bids a stupid amount of cash. AC might pick up a player if real offer a option of a discount purchase and a first purchase option on the perspective player. I reckon the most likely players to come to milan are Robben and Saviola both are keen to move and would offer Milan a better offensive option and both are very cheap at the moment.

No surprise on Villa. If Inter wants Benzema they'd better hope the reports of Fergie wanting to spend some of the Ronaldo money on him aren't true. I'm about 95% sure he'd choose United over Inter.
Still off topic, I just saw this little gem about the Ronaldo transfer on the BBC site:
America's Los Angeles Times took a more quirky look at the transfer by jokingly saying: "The hair-gel industry in north-west England suffered a catastrophic blow on Thursday in a world-record sports transaction after which the soccer marvel Cristiano Ronaldo seemed Spain-bound."
I'll bet Paris Hilton's bed was greasy after Ronaldo left her early in the morning. ;)

Yes, people dont realis how ****ed we now are without the pace and mobility of Kaka'. They just paint pretty pictures in their heads of Ronaldinho playing like in PSG. Dinho cant play this CAM role. He is now limited to the left wing. Only way in to make Pato play wide right and he'll need to play deeper then this year coz Dinho cant defend at all.
-----------Seedorf-----
-----Kaka'-----
--------Pippo-----
This cant work with Dinho, Pato and Dzeko coz Dinho is not able to play as Seedorf could and Pato also cant play as deep as Kaka' did. PAto is classic forward, seconda punta at best.
We actually dont need Ronaldinho at all. He is the one that, prosessionally looking at things, should have been sold and not Kaka'. Only solution is that Milan buys a player similar to Kaka' and for Pato to play CF. Which we had in Ka-Pa-Ro that never worked coz Dinho cant run.
Other solution is that we bulid super strong defence and compact midfield. To play like Chelsea does now. But in Chelase Maldouda, J.Cole, Kalou play defensive as well.
Realistically, our game will look like this:
------Rino----Pirlo-------
---------Hernanes?-----
Dinho
Pato
Dzeko
------------------------------------------------
To defend in CL like that is irresponsible. Flamini over Pirlo could be a solution.

Sergio Ramos? Maldini himself named him as his successor, and in England theres Carragher, Agger, Terry, Carvalho, to name a few, any of whom is better than any Brazilian central defender.
Seriously, none of Agger, carragher, terry or Carvalho are that good. Lucio is better than all of them.
Ramos is a donkey def, that gets away with loads coz he plays for false mardid.

I agree.
Pato has the pace and mobility, but the rest of the midfield is just so static. As our team is now, I do not see us threatening Inter or Juve for the Scudetto, and not threatening anybody in the CL, probably not even the second tier teams we might meet in the group stage....

If there is a player that Milan should take from the list is Sneider since Higuain, Huntelar are too similar to Boriello IMO (phisically and tipically). Robben is too injury prone but should be actually could be a super sub for our forward like Serginho did some years ago. The problem with Sneider, that can play on the left sid of CM, is his wage. I don't know how much he earns in Madrid but should be pretty much and for this kind of quality Milan shouldn't go more than 3 mil euros per year IMO.

actually huntelaar is more like pippo. he's not a real target man like borriello. Huntelaar isnt good enough for Milan or Madrid so we dont need him. VD Vaart or sneijder, I dont know, it could work but I prefer Hernanes! and I dont think they could come cheap so. higuain is another story, I think he's great, one of the few real madrid players who did perform in recent years. But I dont think they want to sell him becouse of that.
I have a question. If we get 3 Non EU spots, does that mean that we can take up Hernanes, Miranda AND Dzeko?
I was wondering how the Thiago Silva thingy worked? Does it count as last seasons signing? Or this seasons?
Oh, by the way, if we can't take all three, can we take up one of them on loan with the option to buy in the next transfer market? Just wondering how the market works, cause I have absolutely no idea...
Oh, and if it's any indication, Thiago himself mentioned Miranda as being very good. In the previous two years, they came first and second in the best defender category back in Brazilian league (both 1st one year and 2nd the other year).

Yeah, I also prefer Hernanes. For me he is the second priority after CB but as said before maybe management see something important that they should buy Dzeko first and then Hernanes.
Who do we have as a CB if we don't count Nesta? I mean, CB that is Champions League quality

Yes, that's why I said Hernanes (type of player like him) is a second priority. Top priority remains a very good central back.
When will we get the results from the Lega meeting?

Miranda has an EU passport, so that's not a problem.

The two main contenders for his signature appear to be Inter and Milan, with the latter being the favourites.
Hernanes has often been compared to the Rossoneri's midfielder Andrea Pirlo, something which has pleased him immensely.
"I'm a player who loves to think on the pitch," declared the Brazilian player to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I understood that in every player there's the time to evaluate and do the best things. My best qualities are probably dribbling with the ball and my hard shot.
"The comparison with Pirlo is very good, it definitely pleases me. He's a complete player, probably the best midfielder in the world.
"I especially watch constantly the matches of Inter and Milan, also because there are many Brazilians. It would be something to be proud of and a pleasure to play in Italy one day.
"However, I must continue to work with tranquillity and my present dreams are the next Libertadores and the South Africa World Cup, where I hope to be there."

Sacchi: Pirlo will leave. Gattuso will stay.
Milan are said to be after Felipe Melo if Pirlo leaves. Melo, IMO, is more defensive minded than Pirlo.
Who else should we go after (assuming we get Dzeko and therefore use up our EU spots)?
Also, should we accept a cash-only bid or try to include someone like Carvalho as part of the deal?
I'm not sure if I would like for Pirlo to leave.
Maybe if the offer was too good to refuse, but then, rebuild the team completely.
It's hard to say, I have mixed feelings regarding Pirlo :hmmm:

I am not exactly sure how Real is shaping up like a good team by purchasing two players in a department filled with attacking talents such as:
1) Raul
2) Robben
3) Kaka` (what a mf)
4) Huntelaar
5) van nis
6) C. Ronaldo
The defense is going to suffer again and again and again, just like what happened every single year.
they have 3 really good young defenders (well pepe is okay...) They need an exerienced CB to mold it.....

Who do we have as a CB if we don't count Nesta? I mean, CB that is Champions League quality
i want to see us persue bocchetti or maybe santacroce or zapata. all 3 r great looking youngsters w/ future.... could learn alot from nesta. Its too hard to buy a WC cb while they r world class...
best we can probably get is gallas who is almost 32

"I am Milan 100 percent," said the player.

Miranda as someone says apparently has an EU passport so wouldn't necessarily cause a problem.
However, were it that Dzeko, Hernanes and Miranda all had non-eu passports, then we would only be able to get 2 of the 3 if the new rule is true.
Thiago Silva was signed by Milan last season (in January). However, the rules say only 2 new non-eu players are eligible to play every season. Last season, those spots were taken by Sheva and Viudez if I remember correctly and so Thiago wasn't allowed to play even though he was technically our player. For next season, one of our non-eu spots will be taken by Thiago Silva as we weren't allowed to register him as one of our non eu players last season. This will leave us with 1 non EU spot left (2 if the new rule passes).
If we want to get more non-eu players, we'd have to do what we did with Thiago. Essentially, that means sign them and then keep them without playing them or loan them out. It's not possible to get more non-eu players on loan as far as I'm aware.
Miranda is supposed to be very good (I've not really seen him myself), and Brasileiro said many positive things about him I think.

I don't know how true this is. If, it is indeed true and Sacchi isn't only talking out of his ass, then we'll be in trouble.
Pirlo may not have been in a great form for the past few years but he still is one of the best CMs in the world. If he leaves then our midfield will be too dull with no creative movement other then Ronaldinho and Seedorf, both of whom will be huge question marks next season.
Obviously we will get a replacement but I hope that's not Melo. From what I've seen from him, he is a good player but I don't buy Dunga's hype over Melo. Melo had a good season and improved a lot in Fiorentina but we have 3 players in our squad (Ambrosini, Gattuso, Flamini) that can do exactly what Felipe does. His passing is nothing spectacular although it is still good. I personally rate Flamini way above Melo at this point of time. Even though Dunga is talking crap about how Melo eats people alive on the field, it doesn't take long to see that Felipe Melo still has a lot of work ahead of him if he is to be compared to great DMs and CMs in the world. As a matter of fact, I personally rate all 3 of Ambro/Gattuso/Flamini much higher then Melo in the defensive department........which by the way is supposed to be his strength.
Having said all that, I don't mind Melo coming in Milan as he has great potential......but I don't want that to be as Pirlo's replacement. If Pirlo does leave then we definitely need something much better then Melo. And it doesn't necessarily have to be an exact kind of player...........as if Pirlo leaves we can change the way we operate so we don't necessarily need a deep laying 'spreader of the ball'.
If Pirlo goes then I personally expect a big signing. It would be unimaginable for us to sell both Kaka and Pirlo.....and on top of that lose Gourcuff yet not splash some cash on a big player. If that happens then I will truly believe that we no longer can sign big players because we would have already raised funds up to 100+ mil Euro just from sales this summer.
Kaka` was a 100% milan player a week before :).
Good to see you smiling again Jeff :grinser:
Oh by the way, how do they count the Non-EU spots? I mean, does playing a year or two in an EU league automatically qualify you to change from Non-EU to EU? Because if I remember correctly, Pato only came here like a year and a half ago, so wouldn't he still be Non-EU (I am assuming, of course, that Pato doesn't have an EU passport in the first place)?

Galliani is in Paris to finalize deals for Dzeko and Cissokho. Why Paris you say? For Cissokho it makes sense, but for Dzeko less so. Apparently, Galliani wants to finalize everything for Dzeko by tomorrow, and has asked Wolfsburg agents to meet him there.
Also, Galliani will meet with Abramovich to see if his interest in Pirlo and Gattuso is real.
Cissokho is a left-back and is 22. Apparently he had a very good season for Porto, and impressed against Man U.

Cissokho is one hell of a player why do you think porto played united so close last year? man id be so excited if this is true, cissokho has attracted the attention of some of the most powerful clubs in all of europe...and guess what NO MORE JAKU! i like dzeko but liked benzema even more hes 21 and a super baller he had 1 bad season but come on it was a down year for lyon and please please try to get hernanes this guy is a baller ive seen em for sao paulo in brasil....and i wonder whats the price for sneijder?.....can you imagine Hernanes,Sneijder,Cissokho,Dzeko or Benzema also i think Albertazzi might actually better than we all think or.....And as for Antonini nobody doesnt know can play CB?! KAKA IS GONE NOW MOVE ON !!!
If I understood correctly you are asking if Antonini can play as a CB.
I think the answer is NO. He has never played as a CB and I doubt he can be transformed into one. As a matter of fact he started his career as a wide midfielder as far as I know.

We're seriously after Cissokho ?? (that doesn't make much sense in Paris as he plays in Porto :D)
He is known as the next big thing for the LB position in France after his (first) season in Porto. The problem is he played in Portuguese league only, but he also made very good games in CL, so ... let's go for him !!
PS: For once, I'm ok with a French player !! :D
Jankulovski is one to be sold next summer. Rumour that Janks going to Roma alongside Shevchenko. Cissokho would be a nice addition, fast and strong and also very young (class 1987). we are ready to build a new Milan with more reasonable cost of investments and slimmer salary structure. Dzeko, Chissoko and maybe the addition of Hernanes and Miranda/Alex Silva (waiting for the limit of non-EU signed per year change)
Do you notice how the targets are different (if we believe the reports) comparing to the last years ??
I think Leonardo asked for some positions to be improved and gave a list to our management ... let's see what will happen during the next weeks, and it will also be interesting to see, if we sign some of these targeted players, how we will react on the following mercato ...

Wow. If that's true and Milan can get this thing done with both Dzeko and Cissokho, I'll be happier than I've been in a long time. Cissokho is going to be a big time player very soon. He was absolutely brilliant against Manchester United in the Champions League. I know Bayern and Lyon have been sniffing around him lately. Supposedly Lyon offered 8 million euros for him and were turned down. Porto is said to want 14. (I also read that Lyon offered 23 for both Cissokho and Lisandro Lopez, prompting Porto to laugh at them). So he won't come cheap, but I think he would definitely be worth a fairly sizeable investment.

Berlusconi Will Not Spend Huge Amounts For Milan Anymore - Sacchi
The former Rossoneri boss says that the club must move forward by being fiscally responsible from now on...
12 Jun 2009 22:42:19
The sale of Kaka to Real Madrid reportedly balanced the books for AC Milan and former coach of the club, Arrigo Sacchi, believes that president Silvio Berlusconi will no longer invest as heavily as he did in the past.
"[Carlo] Ancelotti and Kaka are two major losses, but necessary ones," the ex-Real Madrid director said in an interview with Sportitalia.
"Berlusconi is no longer willing to shell out mass money for Milan, the club must move forward on their own accord. In the past, Milan was a leader in innovation and expertise, now they have bought few players that have been below par."
Meanwhile, he was asked who else he thought could leave the Rossoneri this summer, but gave no definite answers.
"[Andrea] Pirlo maybe, but I think [Gennaro] Gattuso will remain."
On the other side of the coin, Milan have reportedly agreed a pre-contract with Edin Dzeko and are now attempting to negotiate an acceptable deal with his club, German champions Wolfsburg.
Adam Scime, Goal.com
My advice, if you are not willing to provide, JUST leave Berlusconi!:5dito:
Saliwonczyk, you should read some of the last posts ... someone already mentionned what said Sacchi. Anyway, Sacchi has no real role in Milan nowadays, how can he say "this guy will leave" ?
Rick, actually Porto is willing to negotiate with Lyon (it's why I'm surprised we are after Cissokho) for Lopez and Cissokho.
Lopez price was fixed by Porto around 18M, so it's why the offer of 23M for both Cissokho and Lopez was denied ... if Lyon puts 3-4M in more, they will probably be able to negotiate with the players.

Totally sorry, you know how it is when you wake up! Anyway, certainly not good news. From here, we must scout well for talented young players, and devlop our youth system so it can match that of Barca's! This news could have a positive side to it, as it will mean we will stop chasing pointless players that demand too higher wages and transfer fees.:smileani:

Napoli President Threatens To Banish 'Immature' Lavezzi To The Reserves
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis talked about the tricky situation of striker Ezequiel Lavezzi...
12 Jun 2009 20:46:26
Napoli are starting to get fed up with striker Ezequiel Lavezzi's behaviour. The Argentinean and his agent Alejandro Mazzoni are continuing to demand salary increases, which has led president Aurelio De Laurentiis to take a tough stance against the player.
"Lavezzi can't say anything, and neither can his representatives," he said to ANSA.it. "Someone who signs a contract for an established amount of time and money, which was then substantially improved six-seven months later, can't really ask for more.
"I am surprised by the immaturity of these professionals. You can't base everything on money, I also told Pierpaolo [Marino]: 'Don't tell me football is like that, because I'll get mad'. He should at least have tried to earn a raise with his performances on the pitch...
"Let one thing be clear: if you're a professional, you should always be a professional. If you're an athlete, you don't go out drinking or go to prostitutes. When you play, you defend a city's colors, and if at night you go out drinking and visit prostitutes, you are betraying the city's people.
"That said, these are young people, and as such they need a staff capable of teaching them how to behave."
The Napoli president is ready to take extreme measures with Lavezzi.
"Teams need to have an ethical code: if Lavezzi goes on like this, he will spend two years outside the squad, until his contract expires," he continued, "he won't play and that would ruin his career. I have never had an official offer for him from other clubs.
"If one should come, then certainly we could take about it, because everything has a price. However, if I have to make it a question of ethics, I would be capable of turning down even €25 million."
Danilo Pochini, Goal.com
Milan can move now. There has never been a better time, and Lavezzi would be definently pissed off by these latest comments.:nunu:

Oh, come on. If Milan sell every player who has injury issues, Nesta would've been gone 5 years ago. They sold him for some quick cash, that's it, there is no other reason to it. The part that sucks for the fans is that the team will eventually lose all that money back through sponsorships, merchandise sales and bonuses from the CL. That means, this move won't actually cover the debt of the team but rather postpone it for a couple of years. This is why I think Berlusconi might be thinking about selling the team. The moves he is making is going to make the team look real good right now (financially, not on the field), but has serious long term repercussions both on and off the field.

Sacchi to me is the greatest coach off modern football, he's probably the one I respect the most with his comments. What he says is usually right if you ask me, you just have to watch out for websites and newspapers spinning it to make headlines.

I would hate to see Pirlo leave. I know alot of people have given him a hard time, but I still consider him one of the best midfielders in the world. Just watch him play for Italy. Anyways, interesting comments about Lavezzi from Napoli's chairman:
" .... As regards Ezequiel Lavezzi, I did not appreciate his attitude lately. He apparently wants to leave, although he is still under contract with us until 2011. If he will continue pushing for a move and getting on my nerves, I will kick him out of the squad for two years without selling him".
I don't really want Lavezzi at Milan, but those comments are just hilarious.

Does mean however, that Lavezzi can seriously leave this summer. Maybe to Liverpool (hope not)? Yes, i agree about Pirlo of course! His value to any time team is so appreciated, that at 30 years of age, he can still fetch a good 30milion euros if sold!

Was it not obvious that Kaka was suffering from a very CHRONIC injury? 60 million is not to bad for an injury riddled player (has not played freely for the last two seasons), and paying 80 million euros for Ronaldo, who is just about to have an operation, is even better for Man. Untited!
I trust the Milanello staff, who are renowned for being one of the best in the world. If they can extend the careers of some players (which i don't like, excluding Maldini) to unnatural ages, then I am sure they would have conducted a proper analysis on Kaka's condition, and said: "nope, lots of injuries from now on, cash in Galliani b4 others relaise about this!"
Perhaps not so exagerated, but if i was Real, i would seriosuly worry about his body holding up!:grinser:

Hello Eric, I live in HK, and it is better than Shanghai, trust me on that.
To be honest, can't really blame Wolfsburg for holding on to Dzeko. As they do want to challenge for CL next year, having just won the German League and all. IT actually makes sense that they are holding on to one of their best players. I guess we just have to see how how much Berlu is willing to pay.

I have got Chinese heritage and have been over myself many times. But anyway, that is just my opinion!:u56:
It is very different to hold onto a player when they actually want to go. Dzeko has expressed that desire, and if any player at Milan did that, Galliani would let him go straight away, just like Sheva.
Being stubborn is not necessarily a bad thing in anyway! Wolfsburg are an ambitious and new club, and it makes sense that they want Dzeko on the team for many years to come. Difference is, Dzeko doesn't want to embark on that project, and wants Milan! :horny:

Us to move for Vidic?
Vidic IMO is quite a defender even though Mexes is more intelligent on the pitch and Santacroce is younger. But I will gladly welcome Vidic anytime.

The thing is, his agent answered us quite bluntly after rumours linking the player with our club. He doesn't beleive that Milan can afford him (We probably can't), and why would he want to leave Man Utd. at the moment?
The only chance of us getting him is if his wife chooses to move away from England. Rumours suggest Vidic's spouse hates the country.:w154:

I can't believe that Milan next year would be this young. Having this as our starting 11 would shatter the idea that we're an old folks home. I'm assuming that Pirlo is leaving for Chelsea.
I think this team would have as much mobility and energy as our best years. Pato can switch gears just as well as Kaka can. Hernanes would pick up Pirlo's creative role, and add that extra physicality that Pirlo lacks. I think Dzeko and Cissokho would be incredible buys, adding something Milan needs desperately - energy, youth and dynamism.
I'm also assuming that the non-EU rule changes.

If these reports are to be believed, Milan are really rebuilding.

So is Cissokho in France atm which is why Galliani went there? Or maybe he went to meet his managing team?
I know people have said bits and pieces, but does anyone have info on Cissokho? Admittedly I know little about him but he seems an interesting talent. How good is he defensively? Offensively he seems fast and capable at running at opponents, but how good is he technically and tactically? Also does he have a decent cross?
If Wolfsburg aren't interested in selling Dzeko, why would they go to meet Galliani in France to try and settle a deal lol?
I know there are a lot of questions in this post, and I want to believe it's all true, but it seems a very odd story lol.

Usually when the club wants to sell, the player is past their prime or injured. This has been the case with many of Milan's latest transfers. Ronaldihno and Zambrotta may be good, but are a far-cry from what they once were. No wonder Pep decided to get rid of them first! Getting a player under high demand however, like Silva, means that the player is truly good.

Yes and no, Lyon, and Arsenal sells their players on the high. My point is that Milan should not force Dzeko out of the Wolfs. Having said that, if Wolfs is only playing hard to get, thats another story.

Borriello + 15million = DZEKO

I agree..Now that we are into a transformatin stage the deadwood should be cleared as well..With constant complaining on finance it wouldn't be wise to pay huge wages for back ups..So i hope galliani finds a way to fit thses 2 players into a deal with wolfsburg..But i beleive wolfsburg aren't that stupid either...

While I agree with the sentiment, it's not really a good idea. The players build bonds with each other and can get upset if there is too much change.
Plus, with a bunch of new players, it will take time for the team chemistry to gel. I doubt Milan wants to risk losing out on the CL this year because of this. (and this could lead to players leaving next year, like Pato)
I do think Dida should move on, but a new GK is not on the urgent list due to the urgent need for a CF, AM, and (at least 1, if not more) CD.
Kaladze could still be a useful backup until next year. If his contract is up this year, then get whatever we can for him.

borriello scores at least 19 goals a season we do need to keep him even if he gets injured, besides if borriello gets injured again pato or inzargi can take his place maybe even dzeko if Milan sign him. You can say Pato deserve more first football but he is only 19 and shouldn't be relied upon all the time. I think it is now obvious that milan need to get rid of kaladze and seedorf plus 1 or 2 other players as we are signing younger cheaper players. example dzeko would cost 3 or 4 million in wages while shevchenko cost 7 million euros when playing at chelsea
Pastore was argentina's young player of the year last season...
Here is an article i found about pastore (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/may/29/javier-pastore-huracan-manchester-united)
Apparently he wants to play in a team which guarantees him playing time..so he might move to palermo..

You can't argue that kaladze and dida contribute to a team chemistry on the field...They are back ups..Maybe if kalac and dida are sold the management would buy a goalkeeper..As we have been linked with GK for the past few seasons, the mangament sure knows it needs to be reinforced..This could be the best time to do it and start a new era...

As much as I loved to see Kaladze, Seedorf, Dida and Kalac to be out of my beloved Milan team. I don't think any team out there would even attempt an offer for them.
Seedorf, whether you agree or not is a trouble maker in the locker room. One of those my way or no way type of players. Just look at how much he had been called up to the Dutch team, not just now but even when he was in his prime, he rarely gets called up. I don't think any team would want someone like him.
Kaladze is just crap nowadays, it has been about 3 years since he putted up a string of being consistent performances.
Kalac just crap, maybe some teams in the Aussie league will take him back.
As for Dida, I think he is still a fine keeper but certainly not for his wages.
The players that I can see other teams are interested and Milan is willing to part with are Oddo, Janku, one of Ambro, Gattuso and Pirlo. I still think Oddo and Janku are quality players for some mid table sides. Ambro is a great leader and a great locker room guy, he will be a great fit in a younger side. Gattuso still has fire and he will be very useful for teams who attacks and no need to talk about Pirlo.

Whilst I think Borriello might be useful in the squad, I think your taking it a little far saying he scores at least 19 goals a season. Except for his great season at Genoa he has never managed more than around 2 goals in a season in Serie A if I'm right.
Anyhow, who is this Argentina kid? Is he the real deal?
Javier Pastore is the real deal. I saw him play a few times for Huracan this year. Very creative. He would be perfect to fill Kaka's role, actually. He can play off the striker or on either flank. Quick as a cat. Here's an article about him that was in The Guardian recently:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/may/29/javier-pastore-huracan-manchester-united
But I should add that he's very inexperienced at the club level, so if Milan bought him they might consider loaning him out for a year.
This part about seeng Abramovic I dont like. And if Abramovic says "yes" to Gattuso then we'll just "consider the offer" again?? Thats great. We probably need more money. Go and sell your friend Seedorf if you want mroe money!
MAybe he is in Paris for Benzema... Or it has something to do with some other Feanch player: MExes maybe. About Mexes to Madrid - most likely Galliani helped his great friend Perez in that also.
We should have secured 2 good players before we sold Kaka'! Serious club has complete mercato plan when they build a new swuad ( of course noone builds new circle by selling its young and best player, but by selling old ones but...they are a "family" in here...). Again, just like after Sheva sale, we have no idea what to do. They are going around roaming for players... "we rule the mercato" - Galliani.
Santacroce's agent said he wants to play and that they are opened for offers... Viola are supposedly interested. Corvino is a great director.
And this LB that I've never heard of will probably cost us 5mln, while we should invest in one great fullback like Clichy that has secured quality!

So, as best I can figure (it's in Italian), according to Correa dello sport, Milan has reached an agreement with Cissokho for one million euros per season for five years. But they still must reach agreement with Porto. There's some Dzeko news here as well:

And the IM translator English version:
MILAN, June 13 - Aly will Cissokho, Senegalese French origins, the heir of the first Maldini, what for decades was the master of the band left for Milan then become central. Yesterday, in Paris, Adriano Galliani met the prosecutor and has reached an agreement economy: one million euros per season, five-year contract. Cissokho game in Porto, where the Milan spoke at this time knowing that must come to terms with Lyon president Aulas has already offered 14 million euros for the French-Senegalese. And in addition to Lyons, there is also the strong interest of Tottenham. But in the end will be a Milan win, because that is the first option of the player. Cissokho completed 22 years on September 15 and the port has hired last January by Vitoria Setubal, which in turn had taken from Ligue 2 in France (Gueugnon). As quarterback, can play both right and left and he impressed observers with the way in which it was imposed in the first team (he took the post at Fucile) and the authority with which he debuted in the Champions League. The Milan firm believer in this young defender, since any departure would be offset by Ambrosini dall'avanzamento of CEKO Jankulovski midfield. The new Milan Leonardo will be particularly its offensive players from the band.
DZEKO - meanwhile will be the same Edin Dzeko, the 'giant' by Milan Bosnian identified as the attack vital piece of the new team, erode the certainties of Wolfsburg, the His current company, which has denied belonging to the company via Turati any possibility of dealing with his assignment. Dzeko, as said before, has long reached an agreement in principle with the club rossonero (an unofficial but substantial pre-contract) and plan to marry in Milan immediately, without waiting Meline annoying and even dangerous delays for one year, even when you find two free, just 25 years, a zero parameter.

It's not because you don't know him that he isn't a talented player ... if we all react like that, we wouldn't want any Brazilian because few of us see them playing actually (thanks to Brasiliero, our Brazilian scout :D, when we can't see them, he gives us news and some reports + his thought about the player).
Actually, Clichy never played like Cissokho did this year, so if he can confirm that (but the problem is that if he confirms in Porto, his price will grow at something like 20M because he really achieved an absolutely excellent season), he'll be three times the player Clichy who is already two times the player Jankulovski is ... :D
Cissokho isn't Grimi, he played on a regular basis this year in an European championship (even if like I said, the Portuguese league isn't the best one), and he also made several excellent performances in CL ... which will count in his experience.

Yes 86 times, but considering he broke into the National team as 19 and most of 86 games were in his beginning of his career. And he got recall for awhile when Bergkamp, Overmars, Davids, Cocu and the De Boers began to retire from National duties or just not good enough to play anymore.

I'm quite doubtful that we will manage to buy any big names, since it would basically just undo our earnings from the Kakà sale. We should definitely go for some younger italian players, but that would obviously mean that we aren't gonna be Scudetto or CL material this coming season.. maybe in 1-2 years.
Cissokho and Dzenko would be awesome signings, but for 45M (15 + 30), we would probably go back into debt.

we can critisize the management as much as we want but saying we always overpay is not fair. Everytime a big club shows up and wants to buy a certain player they have to pay more!! Look at the other big teams how much they pay for their players. for example real madrid who paid 30m for pepe, man utd paid 22m for nani, 22m for anderson.... etc. Big teams always need to pay more!!

The Rossoneri have been linked with both Brazilian talents, but the rumoured offer of £20m for the pair is seen as insulting.
“Let's wait a minute,” joked technical director Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes on Globoesporte.
“I need to find out how much a crate of bananas is worth, as that is how much they want to give us for both players.
“We know that Milan ended the season in the red and not even the £60m from Kaka's sale to Real Madrid was enough to balance the books.”
The actual price-tags proposed by Sao Paolo are far greater for the Brazilian talents.
“Miranda has a buy-out clause worth £11m, while to buy Hernanes you need at least £35m,” added the director.
“If an offer does come for our two players, it is more likely to arrive from Spain, as their clubs are financially stronger.”

D'Agostino to Juve 'uphill struggle'
Saturday 13 June, 2009
Gaetano D'Agostino's transfer to Juventus is now “an uphill struggle,” announced Udinese directors.
The Italian international was all set to make the move to Turin, but problems arose when they failed to reach an agreement over which players to exchange.
“The negotiations for D'Agostino's switch to Juventus has entered an impasse that it is difficult to get out of,” Udinese director general Sergio Gasparin told Radio Radio.
“When we pin-pointed the players we were interested in, Juve put up obstacles. Therefore it is an uphill struggle now to complete this sale.
“We did not want to release D'Agostino anyway, but unfortunately when a big club like Juventus makes an offer, it is our duty to approach it the right way.”
Udinese had stated they wanted two out of these three players as part of the deal - Sebastian Giovinco, Claudio Marchisio and Paolo De Ceglie.
D'Agostino recently made his full international debut, impressing in Italy's 3-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
why not hijacking juve's deal for him!! that way we wont have that EU-transfers problem (dzeko-hernanes). D'Agostino is class.

I wonder if this whole debt thing--or at least the exaggeration if it--is a ruse by the management. After all, by pleading poverty they can claim they paid off debts with the massive Kaka' sale, and clubs will not overcharge them.
San Paolo ridiculed us saying we're poor, and our offer for Hernanes and Miranda is laughable.
I refuse to believe all of this. We pay Ronaldinho 6 million clean a season, and pay the rest of our players well also. We still have to offload some players, Oddo most notably.
I think Cissokho, Dzeko and another defender is very realistic. Also, I believe that if, God willing, these players live up to expectations we will have a great season.

For Hernanes 40 milion Euros that is a joke..money don't fall of the sky my firend!!
20 milion for me ix max price for Sao Paolo #10..
Objected. Secured quality? That's not what happened when Sheva and Kaka' came.
Kaka' was the player of the year in Brasil and half of the big clubs wanted him. Shevchenko had 2 brilliant years with extremly strong Dynamo K. back then. HE ripped apart everyone he played against in CL. He was considered the best young forward in Europe when Milan bought him.
News say we'll trade Boriello and give some money for Dzeko. Im not sure that it is a good move, unless Milan gets another forward that is NOT PALOSCHI.
But I wouldnt be surprised if we pay 15mln for Dzeko+Borri, and bring Paloschi and say its all the part of the "new circle".
Right now Paloschi needs more playing time in a club like PArma, while Boriello is needed in Milan. Or player like G.Rossi, Cassano...
Money uber alles for Berlusconi...

I doubt cissokho will go for 15 million euros even Porto value him at 11 million euros i think a bit of negotiation is called for. This isn't like the brochi or emerson or ronaldo or even shevchenko deals this player is worth 8 or 9 million euros and in addition he will not be slow and useless. As for borriello true the highest goal count in a season he got before genoa was 10 goals he still is a regular goal scorer when he isn't injured maybe 13-16 goals a season. I do believe he has changed after his slap across the knuckles for drugs scandal he works harder and provide a physical presence in the box. Don't be so quick to discount him he has a lot to prove at Milan and will fight for the team. To reply to ZvonimirBoban you right Zambrotta price tag was retarded he really only worth 7 million euros at the most. He was bought to appease the fans and more importantly apparently buying him stopped Berluconi going after grosso who would probably fail in a Milan shirt. Any way Di Gennaro hasn't been that fantastic only really performing against Milan maybe he has something to prove.
Who is this clown from Sao Paulo insulting Milan. Does he balance our books that he knows how much it would take to put us in the green???
And 35mil POUNDS for Hernanes????? I thought Aulas was crazy, but this Brazilian hero looks like he wants to get reach over night. What has Hernanes done to even demand a 20mil price? Unbelievable and such disrespectful comments. With 35mil pounds (42mil Euro) you can probably be in contention to buy a player such as Ribery.
I know that figures shouldn't always be taken so seriously, but this clown has really got me going with the disrespect he has shown to us......also with the crates of bananas he mentioned.

I was also thinking about this.
we are the only 'big' team in europe who spends almost nothing in the last 4 years + we had shevchenko (45m) and kaka (68m) sales. We also managed to always come into the quarter finals in the CL for 5or6 years in a row, wich generates a lot of money, we even played 3!! finals.
I dont see anything why we should be in the red... or we must really have a terrible management.
Lyon has offered 14M for him. According to CdS (link here (http://www.corrieredellosport.it/Notizie/Calcio/71508/Milan%2C+è+Cissokho+il+sostituto+di+Maldini)) he would prefer us over them, so if we offered the same price we'd get him (assuming Porto accept the offer).
Players dont come cheap nowadays....
(EDIT: type-o)
From what I read (and if reports are to be believed), Lyon offered 8 for him and Porto asked for 14. I would imagine that Milan can get him for 10 or 11.
we can critisize the management as much as we want but saying we always overpay is not fair. Everytime a big club shows up and wants to buy a certain player they have to pay more!! Look at the other big teams how much they pay for their players. for example real madrid who paid 30m for pepe, man utd paid 22m for nani, 22m for anderson.... etc. Big teams always need to pay more!!
Milan fans are a funny bunch (as are all fans, I suppose). Everybody wants big names, but they don't want to pay for them. If Milan buys a player, fans b1tch that they paid so much. If they get outbid for the same player, fans b1tch about Milan being cheap and not willing to be aggressive in the market. With Real Madrid throwing around the sort of money they have on Kaka, Ronaldo, Villa and whoever else they come up with, the market will only continue to spiral. You have to pay for quality these days. Might as well get the guys you want now rather than wait until the price goes up again.
I wonder if this whole debt thing--or at least the exaggeration if it--is a ruse by the management. After all, by pleading poverty they can claim they paid off debts with the massive Kaka' sale, and clubs will not overcharge them.
It's a big exaggeration. I was reading an article the other day that explained how Milan's debt was very manageable (it had to do with credit ratings, etc.). And when you compare Milan's debt (which was mostly a one-off thing -- hopefully -- stemming from missing out on the Champions League last year) to the debt of some of the "big" clubs in England and Spain (Real Madrid's debt was nearly 500 million euros before this spending spree), Milan's debt is miniscule in comparison.
I think Cissokho, Dzeko and another defender is very realistic. Also, I believe that if, God willing, these players live up to expectations we will have a great season.

Rick and Hasan, I agree with you both, wholeheartedly.
I've come to realize that directors of football clubs have to posture and make bold statements, like the director of Sao Paolo. Brazilian football has seen a recent upsurge in interest from local fans in the past few years, which was something that few football pundits predicted. I'm sure Brasiliero could give more detail on that.
Yet, I think that the team really will be in transition for a little bit longer than we expect. I don't think Oddo will be leaving Milan, in fact, I don't want him to go. If you look at Milan's problem since 2005-2006ish we have had depth problems.
Many of you list Vogel or Dhorosoo as proof of the lack of quality that Milan has. Are you kidding me? Vogel played very well when Pirlo was out for a few games with injury, plus Dhorosoo was also quality when he came in, he made the 2006 French squad, so I don't see how he could be that poor. The only reason Oliveira failed at Milan, in my opinion, was because his SISTER was KIDNAPPED for the majority of the season.
Of the many older players we talk about, the only players I really want to get rid of is Kaladze and Kalac. Last year I traveled to Milan to watch Milan play Arsenal and those two players ruined that game, sure Milan were not at their best, but watching these two made my blood boil. Dida can be useful, and I still think Seedorf has something to give, one bad season doesn't make someone finished to me, and considering how experienced he is and how tactically aware he is, we will need as many players with such characteristics as we can, since our manager is trying his hand at management for the first time in his life.
I think a very realistic squad for next season is:
GK: Abbiati, Dida, Kalac
RB: Zambro, Oddo
LB: Janku, Antonini, Cissoko
CB: Nesta, Thiago, Bonera, Kaladze, SANTACROCE
CM: Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambro, Flamini, Beckham (Jan-), D'AGOSTINO,
AM/W: Ronaldinho, Abate, Seedorf
ST: Pato, Boriello, Dzeko, Inzaghi,
Players in caps are dream additions that will never happen, which I hate.
We might all critisize Janku, but when he plays in midfield, he plays very well, and with Oddo returning, and Zambro being able to play on either side, honestly, the problem hasn't been our full backs, it has been the center of defense. I think Milan really need someone, I don't know why we don't go for someone like Esposito of Lecce? He was great this season, and in a very poor team, who have been relegated! It is clear Milan need someone in the center. My other question is that perhaps the Uruguayan boys could find next season their season to step up? Albertazzi is highly regarded, and perhaps he'll pull a Paloschi?
With the squad above, I'd play like so:
------------Abbiati
Zambro---Nesta--Thiago--Cissoko
----Gattuso---Pirlo---Flamini
-----------Ronaldinho
-------Pato--------Dzeko
Injuries can make Zambro push left, Oddo is a good right back, Janku can push up to midfield, Antonini can play on either side, and if need be, Bonera can play either in the center or on the right.
I really think it is critical Milan has more depth, that has been our continual problem, our first 11 is actually really excellent, the problem is our first 11 have been played so often, relied upon so much more heavily than other team's first 11, they have began to just break down from exhaustion. We were great before because we had backups in the form of Stam, Dhorosoo, Vogel, Simic, Brocchi, Rui Costa and others who were great players (sometimes starters) but when they weren't, they could come in when needed. We don't have that anymore, that's Milan's biggest problem, I think.

3. Everyone will think they can get double your offer from teams that have more money

Pato: It's Milan's decision
Saturday 13 June, 2009
Alexandre Pato looks set to turn down the offer from Chelsea to remain with Milan, confirmed his agent.
“Pato had a meeting with Milan and it is the club that decides on the future of a player,” Gilmar Veloz told Telelombardia this evening.
Carlo Ancelotti had wanted Pato to come to Chelsea with him and the Brazilian said he would “listen” to what the London club had to say.
“I will speak with Ancelotti before deciding on my future,” said the young striker earlier this week.
It looks as if Milan will refuse to release Pato, but it remains to be seen whether he will earn a pay rise as part of the deal.
“This is not a problem we will talk about in public,” added agent Veloz. “The contract is an issue between us and a private matter for the player.”

It seems that our management came down really hard on Pato for his comments, which I'm happy about, he shouldn't have talked like he did, made the club look pretty bad.
I guess the club is one that keeps our issues private, and I have always liked that.

Amen. For him to come out and say what he did just hours after Kaka was sold was inconsiderate.
I guess that's true, when you think about it; Milan rarely airs its dirty laundry in public, something Inert can't seem to get enough of.

There is a difference between sign any player you want and sign players at any price. Kaka' and CR are worth of their tag price, but really I did not see (yet) Cissokho as worthy as 15M. its not realistic to say that Dzeko would cost 68m dude :D
15m for a very talented LB could be a steal! He's young and very promising. Sometimes you need to buy players who arent yet world class, but could become world class. I'm sure that he is scouted many times if we are really making a 15m bid for him. And remember, the last times we paid decent money for youngster it always turned out to be good deals, gourcuff, kaka, Pato.
If we cant pay for a worldclass LB we should do it this way, and IMO its the way to go! also there arent too many worldclass LB around, and especially none who we could afford. I'm only thinking about Maxwell but we would have to deal with inter and beat off competition to barcelona.

If you think Kaka and Ronaldo are really worth what Real Madrid paid for them, fine. It's your opinion. I don't think any player is truly worth that much money. Real also seems to be paying 40 million for Villa (overpaying by quite a lot in this instance as well). But do you really think Ronaldo is twice as good a player as Villa? Is he three times as good as Carlos Tevez or five times as good as Antonio Valencia? Is Kaka really three times as good as Dzeko?
Remember, these are individuals playing in a team game. Any player can be replaced and there are times when a player with less raw talent might be just as valuable or even more valuable to a team. So you can throw crazy money at big stars like Ronaldo and Kaka and hope they fit into some sort of cohesive unit. Or you can depend on your scouting and your coach's eye for talent by purchasing players who have a chance to be great (and who you believe will fit into what you want to do) while you can still get them relatively cheap. Not all of them work out, of course (neither do all the big star purchases work out -- ask Manchester United about Veron), but you can buy a Dzeko (by the way, Milan won't spend all the money they got from Kaka on Dzeko) and a Cissokho (for probably 10 or 11 million as Porto turned down 8 and is asking for 14, but the player apparently wants to move to Milan) for what the market determines and still have half your Kaka money left for other players. If you do it right, you can greatly improve your team, even if none of the players you purchase are as good as Kaka (yet).

Well, if players are only value for their on field performance, no one is worth more than 40M.
But in today's world, their worth is more to do with their sell appeal than anything. CR7 and Kaka are players that will create buzz for themselves, their team and players around them.

In a market economy everything is worth what its buyer is willing to pay for it. So if Real are willing to pay 65M for Kakà and 93M for Cristiano Ronaldo, they are worth it.
But as you mention in the second half of your post, "you can greatly improve your team, even if none of the players you purchase are as good as Kaka (yet)" ... So instead of buying Kakà for 65M you can buy Dzeko and two "equivalent players to him" in other roles, and surely that might benefit the team more than just Kakà. I totally agree with what you are saying.

good post Rick!
Look at our star players! (before kaka left :D)
Kaka - came for 8m, wasnt a proven star!
Pato - came as a youngster, only play 1 season the first team of internacional!
Pirlo - came as a talented youngster who was on the bench at inter
Gattuso - came from salernitana I think, what did he prove before joining us.
Nesta - star player
Flamini - only 1 good season at arsenal, before a bench player.
This is the way you build a team IMO, not by buying proven stars, ok sometimes you need to, look at nesta, that was a massive transfer and our defence went a level up!
we should go on like this!
Thiago Silva - 8m!!!!! this could be a steal guys
Cissokho - 13m Sounds very promising!
this is some good scouting, it is not nessaceraly to buy proven stars.

Temporarily. Maybe Real Madrid will make enough off Ronaldo, Kaka and Villa to justify 190 million euros, but in this economy I don't think that's certain. Certainly if the economy gets worse, it will be doubtful because $100 is a lot to spend on a jersey. The majority of people who buy Real Madrid jerseys would buy them with another player's name if Ronaldo, Kaka and Villa weren't there. And the luster will wear off. If selling jerseys and getting publicity were the important thing, Beckham would still be there. All you're really doing is trying to make money off plastic fans who are fans of the player and not the team. If it were that easy to make money just off having big names then everybody would be throwing the same sort of crazy money around to do it. Real Madrid was 500 million euros in debt even before these moves. Now they've paid (or are about to pay) another 190 million for three players (and that doesn't even include the salary costs). There comes a time when you reach a point of diminishing returns.
In a market economy everything is worth what its buyer is willing to pay for it. So if Real are willing to pay 65M for Kakà and 93M for Cristiano Ronaldo, they are worth it.
I don't know about you, but I've bought plenty of things in my life that I realized later weren't at all worth the price I paid for them. The market is what it is -- but that doesn't mean the market makes sense. There are times when a $30,000 Toyota will get you the same place as a $300,000 Ferrari.

what selling kaka Filipez 182 has done is made sure that Milan are really going to struggle to pick any trophy next season. Dzeko hernanes miranda and cissokho are still incomplete players but after a season or two they will start to reach their peak and than milan will be winning trophies again. It would be nice in the future to see a Milan side with pato paloshci abate dzeko hernanes cissokho and merchatti all on top of their games but is it worth scarifying the present team.

Much will depend on who we will sign! If we could get Dzeko, Hernanes (only if the EU rule changes), Cissokho, Santacroce/Miranda for example, I dont see why we shouldnt be playing for the scudetto...

100% agree. Just like stocks buy low sell high.
I dont know why we need to go for huge names. Young and Potential is my recipe. Let our veterans give them guidance on/off the field and they will grow.

As you know mostly experienced teams seem to prosper in Serie A even Napoli have a couple of oldies in their ranks. I think Milan will have a real go at winning Serie A next season with new tactics and new players we could be a completely different team. Still i am getting the nagging feeling that next year is going to be tough and juventus might take the serie a crown ahead of inter and milan. The opposition teams are buying some top players and we are buying promising youngsters. Hopefully Dinho will sparkle next season that is going to determine the success milan rather than Dzeko and co. unless hernanes turns out to be just as good as Kaka in 2004

I'm very disappointed that all of you have misunderstood the meaning of my previous post. I don't want proven stars, I'm not objecting in purchase of raw, unproven, potential talents, my point was as you said in this post:
Kaka' came with just 8M, Gattuso and Pirlo came very cheap (less than 1M, correct me if I'm wrong), FLAMINI was FREE... That's what I'd call a steal. We can't throw our cash to all potential players we see... Otherwise we would splash the 40M for Hernanes as the fcuked guy from Sao Paolo wanted, throw another 30M for Dzeko, etc, etc. I mean, how much we bought Shevchenko for? Kaka'? Gattuso? Pirlo? Flamini? That's what I'd call a steal!

The best performance of Borriello's in the league I can find besides Genoa was 5 goals for Treviso one season. Could you tell me when he scored 10? The thing is, I want us to keep him as he is useful. However, I'm also realistic and I don't expect him to keep up the level of performance that we saw in Genoa given his track record.
When you consider that we bought Kaka from them for peanuts (slightly cheaper than bananas) and sold him for 60 million pounds, you start to understand this guys frustration.
lol, first thought that came into my head when reading that story was whether he was the owner when we got Kaka.
I don't think there's any need for us to worry tbh. It could be sour grapes to do with how much we recently got for Kaka but I think most likely he's attempting to drive up the value of these guys as much as possible. Everyone knows that Hernanes is a likely target for us should our plans change this summer (i.e. we don't get Dzeko) or should the new rule be put in place in Italian football. When we come knocking on his door, I'm sure he'll want to get as much from us as possible. However, I'm also sure when we do come knocking at his door, he'll be very hospitable and the big man attitude we see today will change dramatically.

treviso 2001-2002 27 appearances 10 goals, i cant seem to remember whether they were in Serie a that season. Since his move Genoa he is been a changed player i hope that he has a spell without injuries so he can show you and other milan fans that he is someone who can score 10-15 goals a season.
what selling kaka Filipez 182 has done is made sure that Milan are really going to struggle to pick any trophy next season.
But how many trophies has Milan won the past two seasons with Kaka? There were too many problems with this team to realistically expect a Scudetto or a Champions League title next season whether Kaka was on the team or not. Kaka is only a player. No player, not even Pele or Maradona, could ever win championships singlehandedly. It was time to rebuild.
