The games I've seen off Sevilla, Adriano has been very good. He's a beast going forward, but if I remember correctly, then he's not that good at defending. Question is what Inter want with Adriano. Don't they have enough LB's, with Santon, Maxwell and Cordoba(?).

Maxwell is going to leave, so they will just have Santon who can play on both sides (rumours are about Maicon possibly leaving for Real Madrid, but who cares about these rumours, so many players came to Madrid in medias but never in reality !!).

About Maxwell, if he could leave to Milan ... :D

Gomez scored 4 today, against a top of the table team. I guess that in itself can trigger rumours.

"Mario Gomez hit four goals to inspire VfB Stuttgart to a 4-1 victory over Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. Wolfsburg were joined at the top by champions Bayern Munich who won 3-1 at Energie Cottbus"

I had planned to watch the Stuttgart-Wolfsburg game today, but I only had time to see the 2nd half. Although I mostly wanted to see Dzeko of Wolfsburg (who scored once) Gomez obviously stole the show. I know many have their doubts on Gomez because of his disappointing show at the Euros, but I feel he's has just about done enough to merit a move from Stuttgart. In the 2006-07 season where Stuttgart won the league he scored 14 goals and was named German footballer of the year. The next season he scored 19, and this season he has already scored 23.

If he was to be our big CF next season, I for one wouldn't mind. He would be expensive, sure, but so would Adebayor, who IMO isn't much better. Gomez barring he Euros hasn't had the chance to shine at the highest level (no offence to the Bundesliga) other than Stuttgart's sole CL campaign where the entire team was completely off-colour. Adebayor has constantly played in the CL, where he's had some brilliant games but also a lot of bad ones.

Chealse's just ended Sheva's contract (they lost 7M pounds)

Hey guy, I didn't say anything :D

here's the link from calciomercato:

It's not official yet and I dont think Chelsea would want to waste 7m just like that

Ancelotti:

ON THE TRANSFER MARKET
“Losing important players like Nesta, Borriello, Gattuso was penalizing for our season and also the absence of Kaka was felt, because without him we lose velocity, dynamism and unpredictability.

“The transfer market of next season will depend on Borriello and Nesta’s recovery. Our priority is that Borriello we must recover at 100%, because if he will be fine, then he will surely score more than ten goals next season.

“Mentally Nesta is serene and calm. Physically he is making small steps forward. We have time until August 31 to evaluate his condition. In the next days he will start to make some work with the squad and then during the summer he will have a specific program so then he can take part in the summer training camp with the squad. With Nesta and Thiago Silva the defence for next year is fixed.”

About what Ancelotti: yes, he's totally right, with both Nesta and Thiago Silva (and Nesta would be the best partner for Thiago Silva to learn), our defence is fixed ... but for how long ? It will be fixed until Nesta is injured again ... of course, I'd like to see Nesta for a whole season, at least one last time, but it looks unlikely to happen, and how will he play after such a long and painful injury ?

He could use less his physical strenghts just not to be injured again, and of course, that would also have repercussion on his technical strenghts. What I mean is that he could be afraid to get another injury and could just not play well ...

About Drogba or Adebayor, if we have the choice, for these two guys, the one I would choose would be Dzeko or Gomez actually ... Drogba has a mentality issue (CL final last year + what happened against Barcelona), and Adebayor ... is Adebayor, I don't know, I'm not a big fan, even if in a good day, he is amazing, I don't really like this player.

I think we need three world class CB's in any case. As mentioned earlier, even with Nesta returning, he'll still be a question mark, because he's still so injury-prone. Thiago Silva still needs to prove himself, but I think that it has definetly been good that he's been with us for half a year when next season begins.

In any case, I don't trust Kaladze as a 3rd choice, and I'm not that impressed with Bonera either. In my opinion we should start to get Nesta's heir ready. Hopefully he has loads of good season in him still, but with his injury problems, it would be hard to imagine him going on until he's 40 like Maldini.

I remember some time ago there was a debate that there are not a lot of good left backs today... Well I just remembered two. First one is Adriano from Sevilla. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated players. My friend told me that he said in the press conference that there is a good chance of him joining Inter. Anybody knows anything about that? I also want to hear Brasilieros opinion about this guy...

The second one is Taiwo from Marseille...

Speaking about leftbacks.....with the trends these years gone by i dare to say that for LB Milan will end up with Fabio Grosso. experienced and big games fullback. he'll still come handy for at least 2 years.

and if Nesta still being a question mark until at least mid august, Milan will be forced to table a bid on Mexes of Rome. I guess if Borriello confirmed, we're going to buy no striker next summer. Maybe only the return of Paloschi. The backline is where the real problem lies

Appearantly, our average age is still too low to be experienced for the champions league. Boy, Galliani has really lost his freaking mind.

No offense but did you read the article (and not only the title) or did you just want to have a reason to say something about Galliani ?

Galliani says we need experience to be able to fight for the CL, and not a too young team (refers to Arsenal ?). It doesn't mean he wants new experienced players, he just explained why we keep some "old" people, like Maldini for example.

None taken. I do, however, have a question of my own. I must have misread the article, but which part did he actually say that is the reason we keep the retirement folks here? What I took out of the article is that the same crappy transfer policy is going to continue for the foreseeable future and that is what makes me think Galliani has lost his mind. I guess we interpreted this article differently.

I'm guessing Geotav is referring to trying to keep Maldini as that reason for keeping the older players.

Anyway, there's no point in taking anything from this article, because what Galliani says is quite clear. He wants quality, regardless of age to come into Milan. A side that is too young can't win a competition like CL, which is a fair point, but that doesn't rule out us getting young players altogether, as we have plenty of experience in our squad.

Also, let's not forget that just a few weeks ago the clubs line of communication was to get younger talents ready to make the jump into a big team.

Essentially, the club, and Galliani in particular never are honest or straight with the media, so really there's no point in splitting hairs over it.

I confirm what ACMilan1983 said very well.
Galliani also said that a mixture of experience and youth is needed to win in European competitions.

Fabregas, Iniesta, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo....and so on. These players are the leaders of their teams in the Champions league.
That Galliani dude is just out of focus lately........"We like champions in Milan"

Get real man.....Mourinho is 10 times more fun and down to earth than Galli.

Gourcuff and Giovinco would already have had enough experience in European competitions if they were in Arsenal for example, but Italian clubs seem to have a different approach on that matter.

..that's why Italian clubs dominate in Europe these days......:5130:

First of all, I don't see anything wrong with what Galli said.

But if our transfer for next season, are Morientes, Grosso, Makelele, Pannucci and Cannavaro. Then there is really something wrong with us.

Having exp. players are great, but I think we already have one two many exp players.

Lets look at past CL winners(last few yrs) and how many over 30 players were in their starting 11+3 subs.

ManU: 3 Vandersal, Giggs and Scholes
Milan: Beside Kaka, Pirlo, Pato, Ambro and Gattuso, everyone were over 30
Bacelona: None
Liverpool: Dudek, Hypia, Hamann,and Smicer
Porto: Not too familar with this team but as far as I remember, they have none.
Milan: Rui Costa, Maldini, and Billy
Real: None
Bayern Munich: Kahn, Scholl, Matthaus, Effenberg, Lizarazu
Real: None
Man Utd: Irwin, Schmicheal,and Sheringham

As you can see, the chances of winning the CL with alot of 30 and over players is unlikely.

Maybe I should send this to Galliani, Berlu and Carlo

Alot of those teams had more players over 30 than you mentioned. The real problem is players arouind the 25-26 age who have good experience that we haven't signed frmo that range.

It's clear that the only reason experience is being mentioned imo is that carlo hasn't a clue about development, which is true for all coaches in serie a.

I'd love to see Milan promote 2 or 3 youngsters evry season like barca instead of mercenaries and hacks, an splease dont mention pressure as Carlo is under no pressure, otherwise he'd be fired after last season shambolic displays.

I'm all for bring youngsters up from Primavera IF they are good enough

we are fans we have NO idea about their developement,it's sooo easy to say and expect our youth to be young Maldini's and Kaka's but the reality is Milan have coachs who follow these kids every single day and help in their developement

can you point out to me which youngsters who've come through that have been "developed" poorly?

I understand the frustrations at watching the youth products of other clubs come through but lets not be unrealistic.

Tony75

Most of them never get a proper chance other than getting 5 mins here and there, and they play too nervously as they never are given proper confidence.

Di gennaro was a great talent in youth but played 15 mins in one match, gets shipped to some average club, and then dissapears and people use that as proof he's not good enough. If you never get given a fair chance, you'll never be good enough.

Darmian has been poorly developed. His basic positional sense is poor.

Paloschi should still be in Milan, but his game outside of the box should've been developed better instead of making a box player, meaning that results are more important than development.

I totally agree. Paloschi has been compared to Pippo, but he is different to him. He's better with playing with ball - he can do more. Alberto can play as a supporting forward or as a striker thanks to it.

About Di Gennaro - nowadays he is a favourite Reggina fan's player. I hope, he will develop. He should back to Genoa and develop at Luigi Ferraris, especially if Grifoni will play in Europe.

Darmian - should be loaned out. He will not develop anymore in Milan. Now he has to play, to improve himself.

PS.
Oh, Tony, you are from "polish city". ;)

At the end of the day long term success comes from nurturing youth too
Milan is never going to be Arsenal, even if we wanted it to be which we don't :D but going something like 50% in that direction I think will be much more successful than you might think and surely much cheaper.

Talking about names...2 guys that imo today are in a top-3 most underrated forwards in the world: Nilmar and Luis Fabiano.

If you guy have a chance(I will try to post the video here), watch the goal that Nilmar score today against Corinthians...a Pelé signature goal. What a player!!!

I still can´t believe that only Palermo is trying to buy him...Since he came back from that serious injure(besides the first 2 months) he´s playing in 2 or 3 level above of any forward in Brazil...and can´t see anyone in the world playing more than him(only equal).

Luis Fabiano also, in a year that he´s injured a lot, every time Sevilla or Brazil NT needs(and he´s full health), the guy scores...and also, they are amazing goals.

Just a little off topic since we aren´t linked to them(imo, a huge mistake), but with the level that these 2 are playing, still baffles me how underrated they are around the world...

@GeoTav You need to watch Nilmar goal!!!

OMG, thanks !!
It's what I call: pure Brazilian talent. Only Brazilian players and maybe Argentinian ones can do such things.

He beat 7 players + the GK !! Amazing !! Magnificient !!

The only bad point is that he probably couldn't do the same in Italy (not a lot of space) or England (they would break his legs lol), so if he wants to come back in Europe to show his whole talent (not only the finishing skills but also these kind of dribbles), the best place for him to explode would be a Spanish club, unfortunately !!

In this goal, it looks like a goal from the very in form Kaka, no "grigri" (I mean, no useless movements like Ronaldinho or C.Ronaldo like to do), "just" going faster than everyone and being smarter than the opponents.

Is it planned he could play for the Brazilian NT soon ??
Dunga said Ronaldo could be back if he manages to play a lot of games in a row, but I never saw anything about Nilmar ...

PS: He's really one of the most underrated strikers in the world (EDIT: I didn't read your first sentence in your last post, but I just did and I know we agree about that !! :D). I read an article about him on a French site, it was a report about the interest from some Italian clubs, it was written last week, and they said in this one that he was a total failure in Lyon etc ... they bashed him whereas each time he got a chance there, he always did more than well.

true but if you look at lineups of those teams majoirty were players 26-29 years old. Manutd had carrick (27) hagreaves (27), ferdinand (30), vidic (27), evra (27), wes brown (30)

milan we all know but the midfield featured 27, 28, 29

barcelona i think u make sound younger than they were... they started a midfield of deco, van bemmel, edmilson who at time of final 29, 29, 30. Uptop it was ronaldinho 26, etoo 25, guily 30... and the backline was van brockhorst 31, puyol 28, marques, 27 ogluer 26..... by no means a 'young team'

ever team seems to reflect this age bracket.... still milan need to bring in players 21-24. Of course if a class player older is available or a cant miss prospect younger u get them,

10-05-2009, 21:07
I still think we need a strong target man (can always use an extra one when you have Inzaghi at his age and an injury-prone Boriello), a center back (Alex would be the best) and either a left or right wing back (with Zambro playing either side). Marek is a liability in defense and Flamini is wasted on the right flank. So if it were up to me, 3 players and we should be set.

Now, I am not knocking on over 30 players, but the fact is that CL winners of past usually are made up with players under 30. TO me I think, with the exception of GK and CB, players prime age is 23-29. Ofcourse there are exceptions, like Pippo, DP, Nedved...but for the majority of them, 23-29 are their prime age. If we want to compete in all fronts, we can't rely on a whole bunch of over 30 players in our top 16 players.

Thats the problem with the MGT. They believe as long as the team is in CL, thats all good.

I don't think any other big teams have that mentality.

To me, we can always claim to have great history.....but the truth is that the MGT just does not want to make us a great team anymore.

The only reason the management thinks that way is because money is their only focus nowadays. As long as the team is in the CL, we are all good because we are guaranteed a lot of money coming in. With this management, it wouldn't be inconceivable to think that they would probably make the team lose the CL final if finishing second means makes more money than finishing first.

Kakà: 'Resto al Milan con una squadra più giovane e forte'

11:45 del 11 maggio

(Foto: Dino Panato / GRAZIA NERI)

"Real Madrid o Manchester United?

I read somewhere that ancelotti said that our market will depend on nesta's and borrielo's recoveries..

firtsly that hopefully means that our first priority is our defence(and our attack)..but secondly i dont think that nesta's recovery has a lot do with our needs in the defence..i mean that even if nesta recovers noone can be sure of his phsical an psycological condition anymore..moreover im pretty sure that he s going to be injured again, and even if he doesnt he will never be able to play 3-4 good matches in a row..he is 33 and his last match was 1 year ago..

maldini will retire, favalli should too(even if he stays,it's the same for me),senderos will go home, also noone cant be sure anout thiago's quality(personally i m not that optimistic on him)defender 23 years old, with no serious experiences on another "football planet" for him...and our market depends on nesta's recovery?

i'll be happy if carlo means nestas recovery will depend the number of the defenders we'll get..

p.s. I still think that carlo has to go..
p.s.2 my ideal mercato would be:
1)nesta back
2)mexes or santacrocce
3)gourcuf back
4)adebayor or any wc target forward(i tottally agree with carlo on this one)

IF we don't sign someone new, as long as we recall players like Polashi, Abate, DiGennerao, and Gourcuff and kick players like Seedorf, Dida, Kalac, Senderous, Sheva and Kaladze.

I will be more than happy.

Just can't stand players like Seedorf anymore, as he is completely crap and should have some pride in asking to leave, as I never seen any home team players being boo this bad. The fact that it will only get worse is not a good sign.

That'd be a good start of the mercato, but not a good conclusion. We have two areas in which we absolutely HAVE to reinforce at CB and CF. Meanwhile, we also have a hole at wingback that deserves some serious attention. The young players coming back can't fix these three positions at all. Paloschi is a nice young player but not a target man type of talent given his physical limitations. The best player of that bunch is Gourcuff and his comeback seems even more unlikely now that Ancelotti seems to be staying. This summer, we absolutely have to make the right purchases to strength our squad even if it means we have to spend money.

All news are according to Channel4.

Berlusconi blames Carletto

If this report is true, then Carlo is as good as gone or just show that he has no backbone whatsoever. In a way, I do agree with what Berlu was saying except, he forgot to point out the speed of the game and that he only wants to buy his fav. players instead of the right players. Just Leave Carlo and pls bring your two pets, Seedorf and Kaladze with you

Sheva wants Milan for life

I thought he already did with the season that he is having. Just hang up your boots after this season instead of making a fool of yourself by playing 10Mins a game next season.

Ambro settled at San Siro

Great news, as I still think he has something to offer to the side.

Juve track De Silvestri

Good news, considering Juve latest additions, it is best to avoid players that they want to sign.

Carletto bows to reliable Inter
If Carlo really does not understand that consistency wins the league after this many years playing and coaching, he really should not be a coach. Or maybe he just misunderstood as he probably think consistency means keep playing Seedorf even if he is unable to perform.

Little something from the goal.com

Calcio debate:

Those of you who regularly read my Calcio column will know that I am often a staunch defender of Serie A. There are many reasons why Italian clubs have flopped in Europe over the last couple of years - Calciopoli, a lack of money, traditional beliefs, poor management, inadequate defences – these are just a handful.

Juventus may have had some injury problems, but have things become so desperate that the centre of their midfield consists of two Christians who have to repent after every immoral game? Ten or so years ago, Juve had the best triangle in world football in Zidane, Deschamps and Davids, now they have a provincial-standard duo in Zanetti and Poulsen.

As for Milan,...................the centre of their defence should not have a combined age of 78.

Let’s get serious now. The bottom line is that if Milan and Juventus, who now look likely to finish second and third respectively, are to launch any assault next season on the Champions League and Inter’s Scudetto, they have to address areas of the pitch where the personnel is just not up to scratch. The names mentioned above, barring Maldini who is retiring, all have to go.

Another problem area is on the bench. Claudio Ranieri is almost certain to be sacked at the end of the season, and it will be long overdue. While ‘The Tinkerman’ celebrates last night’s draw like it is a victory, and claims that his side are “back”, he will do well to remember that Juve have not won a game for almost two months. Their last success was on March 21 at Roma, and they have since drawn five and lost one in Serie A, failing to beat three of the bottom five, as well as crashing out of the Coppa Italia to Lazio.
Sebastian Giovinco has been criminally left to rot on the sidelines by Ranieri, while it is puzzling why the ex-Chelsea coach pushed his hands down and told his side to play for the draw after Milan had been reduced to ten men.

Ranieri was not alone with his questionable tactics. Carlo Ancelotti undoubtedly got his formation wrong. Milan were always going to dominate possession against a Juve core of Zanetti and Poulsen, so there was no need at all to field a five-man midfield. It was a waste of a player who would have been much better served up-front. Had Pippo Inzaghi been partnered by Alexandre Pato in attack, and not unleashed as the sole frontman, Milan would have had much more of a cutting edge, and a far greater chance of winning.

Once again, Ancelotti was influenced by player power. There was no space for both Pato and Inzaghi without upsetting a senator like Seedorf, who scored and actually had one of his better games, but is still well below his old levels. This has been a Milan problem for a couple of years now – their family values are so strong that they are almost detrimental to the cause.

Any honest analysis of last night’s game between Milan and Juventus will conclude that these two giants, and Serie A as a whole, needs some repair. It does not require a Silvio Berlusconi facelift - a few big signings in key areas will do the trick. Juventus must realise though that there will be no resurrection with a centre midfield of two Christians, and Milan must acknowledge the same about Va-Fa-lli.

Juve track De Silvestri

Good news, considering Juve latest additions, it is best to avoid players that they want to sign.
.

just what we need.... tem to have entire azzuri backline for future.... de ceglie, cheillini, criscito, de siilvestri.

We need to sign de silvestri, hes got some growing to do, but hes only 20 and can contribute at RB immediately. More so learning from zambrotta can only do him good... He is also having contract issues with lazio so his fee will be much lower than in say 2-3 years when he could be a 25 million euro player or unsignable if he goes to juve

I read that Benitez plans to sell 11 players this year....one of them is supposedly Xabi Alonso.
And I have a feeling how it will all end, Juve will get Xabi Alonso, Diego, their defense will be more experienced, Giovinco will flourish and they'll start to beat the crap out of everyone :guw:

Milan will only buy Drogba and he'll get injured or something because Premier league took everything he had in him :5horse:

---------amauri-------

-giovinco--diego--hamsik-- (iquinto, camorenesi)

-----marcisio--sissoko-----

-criscito--cheillini--cannavaro--New rb-

thats a team that could win serie A... infact even w/o hamsik.... camorenesi/iquinta on right wing could be great... but for future... diego, giovinco + hamsik could terrorize milan and serie A for a decade

Long time since I last wrote some lines here. How is the great Ronaldinho doing in Milan? Do you think Pato can overtake Messi for FIFA Footballer of the year this season?

Now seriously, what people think about Dzeko? His record in the Bundesliga is impressive but I havent watched him extensively. Opinions?

I don't mind Diego at Juventus, Serie A needs players like him. It's hard to see why he hasn't been picked up by a European 'superpower' before. He has basicly singlehandetly taken Werder Bremen to the UEFA Cup final.

I read alot of reports today about us wanting Carlos Tevez. I think that IF we're gonna splash big money on a striker, then I'd MUCH rather have Carlos Tevez at Milan, than Adabayor. We already have Borrielo as a targetman, and it's not necessarly better to always have a big/small combo as strikers. We don't play with wingers remember.

I agree with Christian, well, @ least with the part about Tevez....would love to see him in our attack...just not sure he fits the "profile" of player Berlu will buy.

Who knows, I could b surprised by us actually targetting/aquiring him, (but in truth I doubt it, as his asking price is way too high), but if I were surprised, it would b pleasantly :D.

Seems we are chasing Carlos Tevez with total cost of 44M (transfer fee and salary) - from goal.com

any other confirmation on this?

Well, he is ok. Quick and agile. But since we already have Pato, wouldn't it be better if we chase a big forward?

And Kaka seems to praising Gourcoff:
“I am very pleased that he has provided a great season,” the 27-year-old star told Aujourd’hui Sport. “He has scored a lot of goals and he has played in the French team. This is great news.

“I know that he suffered in his second year for us, which was not easy. If he returns, he will not be the same.”

For God sake, please bring him back to Milan to replace Seedorf...
Should we make petition on this?

Tevez would be a stupid move. Huge amount of money on a player we absolutely DON'T need. Where do we play him with the likes of Pato, Sheva, R80, Seedorf, Kaka, and Beckham already on our team?

I would love for us to sign Tevez as I think he just might be the perfect compliment to our attack. Our style put a great deal of emphasis on possession and penetrating through the middle as oppose to attacking on the wing. With Tevez, who is fast and skilled, is perfect for penetration to create scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Tevez is also one of the physically strongest forward in the world, which allows him to play a bit of a CF role as well.

As far as the he is similar to Pato argument is concerned, people made the same argument about him and Rooney when he moved to Man Utd, and yet that partnership worked out fantastic. Although I would like to see big CF like Adebayor too, I feel like Tevez has proven himself to be more reliable as a player than Adebayor. With him here, we can finally get some reliability and consistency on our attack for the first time in a long time.

Man u already has roney, christiana, berbaverage, macheda, giggs, parkbench, nanny...

Tevez, pato & Kaka would be a great front 3 with Borreilo, Inzaghi & palosci amongst subs.

I don't think Borriello would be a sub. It would all depend on our opponent. Pato would of course be our first striker... Then if we would play against a team that parks a bus in our 16, we would play Borriello, and if we would play against more open team then we would play Tevez... But I doubt that Tevez would come... He's much to expensive...

I just hope that with all this talk about Dzeko, Adebayor, Tevez,... we really bring in a worldclass attacker. I'm just afraid that we will end up with another Oliveira type of player...

I don't see how Tevez would be a great purchase in all honesty. I'm a fan of his game, but fitting him into the side seems difficult due to the nature of our play and also the players in our team.

Most importantly, I don't think he's a necessity and splashing a huge amount of cash when other players are needed with greater urgency *cough defender cough* could be a stupid move to make.

That said, Galliani says for next season our aim is to get Nesta back, with a defence consisting of Nesta, Thiago Silva, Favalli, Kaladze, Senderos and Bonera. God help us all if he's serious.

1. pull in a quality LB and CB
2. Inject youth players into the midfield (Gourcuff, etc.)
3. Sign ONE striker

I'm good to go!! I think the possible sale of Ronaldinho will give us more funds to invest. Man City will probably dump more than he's worth just to get some "names" on their team. IMO, he's been rubbish all year anyways

For what his worth was supposed to be, he has not lived up to it. He also excelled when Kaka was out. With the two in the same lineup, something does not seem right.

Remember, earlier in the season we were way off Champions League and with the likes of Super Pippo, Kaka, etc, we've come a long way. It seems that Ronaldinho's removal from the lineup has given some major boost. When playing a 4-3-2-1, Kaka and Dinho just didnt link up behind the lone striker. With Kaka free to roam behind 2 strikers (Pato and Inzaghi), things have gotten better.

Trust me, I was more excited than anyone for Ronaldinho. But I think a sale to fund a top striker and defensive player will benefit the team the most!!

But I do agree in some part to what you said. But in my opinion, he was strong at the beginning of the season when we were second half of the table.

Long time since I've been on these boards, but, I'm going to return.

I think many are misinterpreting what Galli is saying. He's saying that Nesta recovering dictates the transfer strategy for CB.

If Nesta can return to full health and play maybe 3/4th of the game, that means that Milan have to go for a different kind of CB then if they have to just outright find a World Class replacement. It makes perfect sense really.

In terms of strikers, watching Adebayor play for Arsenal, I don't see how he would cope with Italian defenders, he would shout, scream, cry, and then just sulk and not even try. This is where Galli is talking about Boriello. Boriello knows that he has to force his way back into the team, otherwise he will just be a useful sub.

That's why I don't see why Milan, who seem to have their formation set in stone and simply need the players to fill the role, because the system works better than any other system, why do you think clubs from around the world all mimic Milan tactics in one way or the other?

To be honest, I wouldn't mind Grosso, he'd be great for two years, and maybe even longer? It seems Milan has a habit of getting rather temporary full backs, Cafu, Oddo, Zambro, Pancaro. All have not been expected to play for 5+ years, but they do a great job.

Also, that way Janku can be pushed into the midfield ranks, where he does better, and that way we have more versatility in the squad, because it seems obvious that the full backs aren't the major issue, it really is about how we will cope with the center once Maldini retires and whether or not Nesta can recover.

Couldn´t agree more, Fret...
Last year I was also preaching the needs of new CB´s here. But as always, a forward was the main petition here(and in others Milan forum). We aren´t in title race this year because of our defense, period!! The amount of silly goals our defense got is ridiculous...

Also, despite my hope for Nesta come back, we need to remember that even before this serious back injure, Nesta always spent more time than the normal injured. Even in his best years, Sandro always missed 1/3 of the season. Theres no way we can count on him as our "new" world class defender...

With Pato, Borrielo(if health), Pippo and a young guy like Paloschi as 4th option, imo, we are set to a great season.

Now, I really hope we do not spend on Adebayor...30M is to much for this guy. With 20M, I purchase a much more physical, skilled, talented and more important: a player that doens´t disappear in big matches. Also, this guy is a EU player. I´m talking about the guy that is saving Dunga job over the last 2 seasons...Luis Fabiano.

But, as Fret wrote, before any offensive(or midfielde) purchase, it´s imperative we bring a WC defender, or anything near that...because our best CB are injure prone and the other is very unexperienced. Theres no way we can compete in Champions(and Serie A) with this depth at the back...

Samaldinho
13-05-2009, 18:59
I agree Brasileiro.

The Pato, Boriello, Pippo, and Paloschi would be perfect.

Midfield is actually Milan's strength: Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambro, Flamini, Beckham, and when needed Seedorf or Janku. We will also see if Gorky returns, plus the Uruguayans might finally show a little more of themselves.

Our attacking options are perfect, we have the highest scoring team in Serie A and the 2nd strongest defense (30 goals against vs. Inter's 27).

I don't think it really is the defense itself, its about who we rely upon in the center. Favalli has played well, Maldini, as usual is incredible. The truth is that of all our positions, the center of defense has been under the most strain.

I pray for Fabio Santacroce, he has impressed me every time I have watched him, and I think preserving an Italian identity of the backline is critical. I hope Thiago makes the grade, perhaps this period of transition before he could actually play will be good.

Even if Nesta only plays 3/4 of the season, that's fine, that's what we need Nesta for. If Nesta can play little, or no part in next season, that means that--assuming Favalli, Maldini, Senderos, and Kaladze all leave this summer-- then it is just Bonera and Thiago for the center. If Nesta can play a significant portion of the next season, then we do not have to go out and buy two top-class, just one top-class and another adequate central defender.

If Nesta is out, then it seems two new guys have to come in. I just hope Kaladze isn't relied upon, I truly prefer Favalli over him.

K77SH C
13-05-2009, 19:10
Paloschi needs to be given the freedom to grow, learn and play. Hopefully he will be loaned out. Boriello is still an unknown quantity, if Milan was really a super club we would buy a proven partner for Pato.

We are overloaded with defensive minded midfielders who never run at players or make runs as opposed to send others after their passes. Gourcuff would be a nice addition.

Defence, I would love to see a future Azzuri player in our backline so agree on Santacrocce. Maldini needs to stay for one more season and play the match after the CL games or come on as a sub. He needs to have a Billy Costacurta type final season. We have asked far too much of him this season. The benefit would be that Thiago and Santacrocce (As if Milan are aserious enough club to buy him) would learn from him and we wouldnt rely on Favalli.

Dida and Kalac are totally unreliable, Abbiati is pretty decent. In a perfect world we would sign the next big thing, but it wont happen. So Id be happy with Abbiati and a reliable sub for him. Kalac needs to go and Dida can compete with the other sub.

If Ancelotti isnt willing to shake this squad up and add some competetion for places then he needs to go too. We dont even have a tactic anymore, apart from 'get it to one of the good players and hope he does something good'.

Christian
13-05-2009, 20:32
Good points about the defence. It definetly has to be our priority this summer. First a CB, then a LB and if we're still in the market for more players, then we can pick up a striker.

I do think that the stats are not reliable, when it comes to us having the second best defence this season. I think this is mostly down to our midfield having kept our possession at 65%+ in the last 8 or 10 games, this has ment that the defence really hasn't had that much to do, except trivial stuff. Whenever our defence has been put under pressure this season, against the better teams, it has proven to be inadequate.

People talk about wanting a striker who scores 20+ goals a season. In my opinion Pato can easily become our '9'. He IS a goalscorer IF he plays in that role. Earlier the season when he played alone up front, he scored tons of goals, some of them were amazing goals, but some of them were also 'poacher' goals, proving that he can fill that role. We also have Borriello, as already mentioned, if we pick up an expensive striker, then the money we spent on Borriello will basicly be wasted unless we could offload him. Furthermore I think that Superpippo shouldn't be underestimated for next season. He might be old, but in my opinion, he has never played as well as he does at the moment. He has never relied on his strength, stamina or speed, only his brains, and while the former three might become worse, his brains certainly wont, probably the contrary actually. The only thing is that he can't play twice a week anymore, but do we really need that from him?

Having strong CB will be great, but having a mobile midfield will be better, then having att mid tracking back will be the best.

Point is, yes, our defense are weak, but we also need a mobile midfield that is willing to run, run, run and run some more. If our midfield for next year are Gourcuff, Flamini and Gattuso, with Kaka playing ATM and Borreillo and Pato playing stk, we will kill every team we play. B/c they all are willing to run

I agree, and not much work is needed in the midfield imo. Ideally we want to aim to get Flamini back in the midfield as his running ability and his versatility will be a huge asset, especially freeing up Rino from attacking duties.

Bringing back Gourcuff will add a huge amount of mobility, as he moves all over the place, and he tracks back defensively. We only need to look at his goals from the last few games (including his two from the latest), to see how good his movement is.

I'd also love to see Pirlo (I know you're not with me on this, and assume that's why you'd play a 2-man attack with Borri) with Flamini and Rino as he'll get his chance to push up more. With the more mobile players around him (Pato, Kaka, Gourcuff, Flamini and even Rino), we can surely utilise his passing to great effect.

This is exactly why we need to get quality defenders this summer. With a good CB and fullback, we can finally look to play a harder pressing game and we won't need to expend midfielders (i.e. Flamini) in defence to cover the fullback role. Otherwise, if we can't get a top quality fullback, we need a top level two way midfielder to come in to take up Flamini's role in midfield (something I don't trust Ambro to do consistently for a whole season).

Maybe some of my posts from the past about Pirlo gave an impression that I am not a big fan of his, actually I am. However, I do believe that playing with 2 strikers with Kaka behind them and a midfield of Gourcuff, Flamini and Gattuso are much better than playing with a X'mas tree.
Lets me explain. With Pato and Borreillo up front. Pato can drift to the right an act as a ATK RM and Kaka can be at ATK LM. Or Pato and Kaka can just be right behind Borriello and knock in all those headback from Borreillo.

To me if Pirlo plays, that still possible, but it won't be at Gourcuff's spot(actually thats his spot now), but rather I will put his in kaka's spot and have kaka plays Pato's spot. Kind of like how Seedorf plays now.
If Pirlo plays in his position now, then the other two mid must be Gourcuff and Flamini, instead of having Gattuso, as I think it works best with two way mid instead of a pure DM.

Having said all that, I doubt Carlo will do it.

The thing is I don't really want to play the XMAS tree formation. Pirlo is someone I want to interpret the CM role but add greater creativity to it, pushing further up field into the natural trequartista role. This is why I want someone like Rino in the side, as especially against defensive teams Flamini would get freedom to push up, so we need a player in the midfield that can keep cover. Personally, I'm sick of seeing Pirlo being the man keeping cover in midfield as is the case now, as it restricts his game far too much.

This move also allows Kaka and Gourcuff to support the man up front (normally Pato). Considering both Kaka and Gourcuff often drift into wide areas they would compliment Pirlo in the middle quite well. The movement between the attacking trio, never mind Pirlo's movement when he has freedom and deep runs from Flamini and fullbacks, would cause opponents to struggle with our movement. There's often the debate on the forum as to whether Pato's best suited as a leading striker or as a second forward. For me, most definitely Pato is at his best as a leading striker and I have provided quite a few statistics comparing his goalscoring and assist ratio between the two positions in the Pato thread to try and prove my point.

I think, if I'm understanding how you would fit Pirlo in correctly, our opinions don't differ too much. Pirlo where he plays now for me isn't really plausible, as it's become too easy to stop. The only time I'd even consider pushing him that deep is if and when we press extremely high up the pitch (where we're playing in the opponents half).

Don't get me wrong though, this is what I want as a rough starting eleven, but in no way do I want us to be fixed with a single set up. I want us to use rotation correctly, utilising our weapons depending on our opponents and keeping the players fresh and ready. Therefore, a system with Borriello or at times Pippo as the point man with Kaka/Gourcuff/Pato supporting is a different option, one which may be very useful (and would have been good this season).

The most important thing right now is that Galliani, Barlusconi and Ancelotti know exactly who to buy... Because i want our team to be ready for summer preparations. But if you look at Milan, we already have Thiago Silva for next season + Gourcuff is at least as good as Diego (I just hope that Galliani is smart and he realizes that). So with these two + Pato will be one year older and better + healthy Kaka... I read about Dinho to Napoli today...

http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2009/05/14/1264761/napoli-eye-milan-ace-ronaldinho-report

If there's any truth to it (not likely), then Santacroce's name must come up too.

Maybe a swap deal with Napoli --> Ronaldinho to Napoli for Santacroce + 10-15M. Take that cash and grab a left back.

Can Someone Answer Me About Hamsik And Bastos (lille) Position???

Hamsik plays in a central midifielder position: that means, he has to defend, he has to launch the counter attacks and he participates to the offensive phases ... the so-called "modern" midfielder. Same role than Fabregas in Arsenal, but he is maybe a bit more offensive.

Michel Bastos is a natural left midfielder I think, but he is often used as a left winger and sometimes as a striker (second striker).

The most important thing right now is that Galliani, Barlusconi and Ancelotti know exactly who to buy... Because i want our team to be ready for summer preparations. It would be ideal if we brought our targets to the club before the training camp starts so they can gel together... But since we are waiting on a condition of Nesta and Kaladze I think that won't happen.

Oh crap........I didn't put much thought on that matter, but that's the main problem.

We need people who keep the defense ASAP even if Nesta and Kaladze do recover. With CL and Serie A coming up, our team right now is just not wide enough.

nefremo
14-05-2009, 11:02
It is clear that the defense is the one that must be repaired.

But the midfield is also a mess!!!!

Why do I say that? Simply because the midfield is so static and the ball movement is completely terrible. Nobody moves, nobody runs. There is no runs coming off the midfield. There is never a single midfielder in the box when we get the ball out wide. *perfect scenario: Beckham has the ball wide right and we all can tell that he is going to cross.......yet again not a single midfielder makes a run from the midfield into the box and we end up with only Pippo inside and occasionally Kaka.
A lot of people here mention the header that Gourcuff scored a week ago or so, where he passed the ball wide and then sprinted in the box to head it in. Same goes for the Ronaldinho goal against Inter where he hit a 40 meter ball to Kaka and then sprinted into the box to head the ball in.
-These are plays that should happen 3,4,5 times during a GAME...and not 3,4,5 times during the season.
And this is just one of the problems. The other one like a mentioned is that ball movement is so slow that even a U17 team will know where our attack is going. There is no movement off the ball and there is no inter-changing of positions. Everything is so static that sometimes I simply can't believe my eyes that I am looking at a Milan midfield and not Serie C players.
Compare how the midfield plays today to how the midfield operated a couple of years ago and you'll see a huge difference.

This is why I would take the midfield repairs ahead of a CF. We need new blood in the midfield. Players that will push some of the current ones. Push them to play better or push them out of the field....I don't really care which one because it is painful watching such crap midfield performances from a club like Milan.

Why do we think that we can play Pirlo in a more offensive role? Pirlo used to be a more offensive midfielder, but he struggled in that position.

It was Carlo who realized that Pirlo needs time and space, and being between the oppositions' strikers and midfield gives him the space, time, and room to operate to the best of his abilities.

The X-mas tree formation is the basis for Milan's success, and I don't think that making Pato play as a attacking mid type of player (even for parts of the game) would benefit Milan, it would actually frustrate us. He is a striker, and when he does drift out wide, he still carries the ball too long. Maybe part of that is because he is young, but, I think it also shows that his instinct is to be a striker in the Ronaldo (R9) mold rather than some sort of Sheva-hybrid type.

With regards to Dossena, I think he'd be good to boost the strength and depth of the backline, but I also am skeptical of his ability to be a starter, but, who knows? Of all fans out there, it is our club that takes players that are supposedly "finished" and brings them back playing better then ever.

I think Grosso is a great option, but I doubt he'll come, unfortunately. The more I think about it, the more I think that Santacroce is the perfect option for Milan. He is so talented, so strong, and he truly has the ability to be world class.

I just worry that if the 6+5 rule comes into play, that Milan, if all the transfers that many here want, we put us in a terrible position, because then the money we invest in non-Italian players will be a waste in that other clubs know that we have to offload certain players and then can take our players at cut-prices.

I don't think Mexes will come, though I wish, but I just am nervous about Thiago Silva, I'm hesitant about how well he will preform. Am I the only one?

Fret
14-05-2009, 15:28
I set my mind like this: Thiago is very likely to be talented but we just can't tell that he will most certainly make an impact :dontkn:......and I would like to see someone already proven and in "optimal age"....for instance - Vidic (he is just used as an example, not a reality).

If Nesta doesn't recover and Thiago turns out to be a descent player, then we just haven't done nothing regarding our defensive problems.

Now it's all going to depend on whether or not Carlo is coaching us next year. We should really make a decision fast, and if Rijkaard or somebody is coming in, speak with him and identify some transfer targets. It's amazing how refreshing a new coaching change can be, specially when we're essentially stuck with the same system, players, and favorites (Seedorf, Pirlo) for the last 6 years.

It was Carlo who realized that Pirlo needs time and space, and being between the oppositions' strikers and midfield gives him the space, time, and room to operate to the best of his abilities.

That's not correct about Pirlo. He began his career as an offensive playmaker playing in a similar position to Roberto Baggio (his idol). At Brescia he was a big success early in his years, and also in the youth level of all the Italy sides (where he was generally the star player). Also, in his first season at Milan, he sat for around half a season on the bench, but was eventually given a starting role by Ancelotti as the playmaker in the side behind the forwards. In this role, he was not just a success, but much of the reason we were even in CL 2002/03, as he was performing superbly every week, scoring vital goals and making important assists. The only time in his career where Pirlo has generally struggled is at Inter, where he simply wasn't given chances. Even now in Italy, he's being used higher up the field by Lippi and his game for the national side is excellent.

The reason Pirlo was moved back into the deep playmaker role was because at the start of the 2002/03 season we had a lot of high profile attacking players. With Rivaldo, Rui Costa, Seedorf, Sheva and Pippo it was difficult for Carlo to fit in all these players into the side so Pirlo spoke to him about a role Carlo Mazzone had tested in Brescia, where Pirlo is used deeper so that he can spread play and get a little extra time on the ball to make use of his long passes.

There is more and more rumours about Ronaldinho's departure. I for one and still torn between letting ronaldinho leave and keeping him. I think we could cover the money we gave Barca by selling him to Man City. We might even make a few dollars. If he was sold I would like to see Adebayor at Milan. I still think like most people that Milan need a powerful CF. But If we could get Ronaldinho back to somewhere near his best then I would prefer he stays.

On more pressing issues, I think Milan first capture should be a world class centre back or a up and coming world class centre back. Management should send a clear message to Milan fans that they want to explod onto the UCL scene next year.

We need to add depth to our squad. We need younger players that are keen to make an impact when called upon not old ones who whinge when they don't get a game.

In today edition of Gazzetta dello Sport there is an article about Yoann Gourcuff. It says that Gourcuff wants to return to Milan and that the coach of Bordeaux Laurent Blanc admitted it too. The only problem that the author of the article sees is the silence from Milan. In his opinion we are not to happy to welcome him back and would rather take the cash. I really really hope that he is wrong.

The other thing is that we will officially renew Favallis contract when we qualify for CL. After the retirement of Maldini, Favalli will become the leader in the locker room.

The cause you found to this new made up story by Marca/AS is not correct as Kaka' always said he wanted Carlo to stay ...

Carlo has a very good rapport with his players, even with the ones who don't play often actually, as he never was criticized by any of them (how many players leaving their club criticize their former coach then ? That often happens ... but I have no example for Carlo).

He also never bash his players and former players (or almost, there I have an example: Vikash Dhorasso but all his former coaches bashed him :D).

For Gourcuff, I don't believe too much what I read nowadays on Goal.com and Italian websites as their source is L'Equipe, a French newspaper. L'Equipe was a very serious newspaper some years ago, but nowadays they want "sensationnal" news, a bit like the Spanish Marca ...

And I can't find the interview on French websites, it's why for moment, I doubt.

If it's true, then, it's perfect, if Gourcuff wants to return, it's all good for us.

This transfer season should signal our intent for the future. If we continue to hang on to the golden oldies in our squad, well, we can kiss being a premier European team goodbye. The core of the team needs to change. We gotta let go of some of the players like Seedorf, Inzaghi, Favalli et. al. How long will we keep depending on the class of 2003-2007 to get us silverware. We gotta bring in new young blood, whether its through the youth system or transfer market. We have to change our thinking. The current squad at its core will struggle to get out of Champions League group stages. Who in this forum can honestly equate us with Barca and Manyoo? Guys and Gals, our problems run deep and if we don't take shot at fixing them this season....we will suffer for a long time.
And now Carlo wants to get rid of Dinho? Guys we can't compete with the best in Europe in our current makeup. And now that we will be in Europe next season - I have a feeling that will be our main priority - we will suffer miserably. All I'm saying there needs to be a drastic change in the makeup of the squad or it will take us 3-5 years to become the world beaters we were a few years back.

Altough I think Milan has better players than Man Utd, The English are capable of putting pressure and keeping the high tempo throughout the entire game.

No offense, buddy, but how did you figure this Milan team has better players than Man Utd? We have one, maybe two positions in which we might have better player than Man Utd in CAM and CDM, and that's about it. They kick our ass in talent level in every other position.

Van der Sar and Abbiatti are probably playing at the same level, but Man U have so much depth behind Van der Sar.
Our defensive line can't even kiss the boots of Evra-Ferdinand-Vidic-Rafael;
Our central midfield might have an advantage over Anderson-Carrick, but our wing can't be compared to C Ronaldo and Park/Giggs with their talent and work rate;
Man U have three world class strikers in Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov combined with young uprising stars in Macheda and Welback. We, on the other hand, have nobody to play with Pato and have to relay on a 37 year old Pippo to score.

It's always good to support our team, but we as fans can no longer be blinded by our love for the team and ignore reality. This team lacks the talent level necessary to compete with the best in Europe and therefore needs to spend some serious cash to acquire it.

The bolded part I think is the key phrase in your post. 2 years of no activity and missed transfers is a long time. Our team has been getting crappier and crappier. If we go by the standards you mentioned, then we can easily also say that this same team got outclassed by Arsenal as well just a summer ago yet we didn't change much, or anything.

Our players are getting older, slower and less motivated. They struggle week in week out and the second position on the table is very fooling. Normally we should be somewhat positive with a 2nd position. After all you can't be first every year but the football we have played for the past couple of years has been way off the standard of a top European club. Even the year we won the CL (2007) we only played well in the CL itself while we were completely unconvincing in the league. It is obvious that this group of players is not what it was as you state '2 summers ago' and what's even more clear is that we don't even 'stack up just fine collectively' anymore either.

It's just my opinion. I am a very reasonable person that has given many of these players a lot of chances and have supported them and Carlo. I rarely (almost never) criticize or single out players and bash them in here.........but what's clear is clear and there comes a time where patience runs out. This team can't function the way it is anymore and changes must be made.

The important thing that we need to figure out right now is whether or not a coaching change only will do the trick. Will the changing of the key figure (the coach) change the attitude of the players or will we be stuck with these embarrassing showings even with a new coach. What I'm saying is...do we need a complete overhaul and change of around 4/5 starting players, or will the changing of only 1/2 individuals in the line up + a new coach do the trick. The colors of this great club don't deserve the heartless showings that we have to witness week in week out with the latest one being just today against Udinese.

Just back to the striker talk. What about Marc Janko from Salzburg, we've been linked with him before if I remember correctly. He's scored a crazy amount of goals, about 1 goal/match. I know alot of people would dismiss him because he's done it in a relativly weak league, but check out this video of his goals: youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7nDOu_WSS0) There's obviously alot of tapins, but some of the goals are pretty damn crazy. His first touch is absolutly insane, check out the third goal in the video for eksample, but loads of others in the video. Imagine if he could link up with Pirlo, like Pirlo does with Luca Toni for the Azurri. This guy LOOKS much better at controlling the ball than Toni, so could become quite the goal machine.

I don't watch the Austrian league at all though, so I might not know the whole story about Marc Janko. Maybe someone knows more?? One thing though, I don't think we should dismiss Janko cause he's playing in the league he is. Everybody starts somewhere, Shevchenko started in Dynamo Kiev, although a bigger club than Salzburg at the time, yet he still become our second highest goalscorer ever.

We wont take Zapata & Mexes. no way. I wsih berlu would just sell. His football ideas beling 20 years ago. today he's an old man who can't recognise the need for changes in milan, and neither adebayor or mexes are right choices.

First off, i think Adebayor is over-rated as hell. Mexes is also over-rated but he is still a solid defender just not as a second coming of Nesta or anyone like that.

Personally, I still think that Lucio will be the CB signing and another cheap but reliable striker like Trez or Iqunita will come.

No because Gourcuff didn't give any key allowing people to know his future decision (if he already knows it himself ...).

French medias start to think he will come back to Milan because of his last declaration ("I don't know and it's a difficult decision, more difficult than what people think", I translate litterally), but he didn't say anything clear.

So it's all about interpretation from medias.

This website musn't be reliable because they don't write the name of the player as it has to be written, and they give a sure information whereas nothing is sure (still 18 days for Bordeaux to try to buy him).

I've been reading the news about Mexes and Adebayor. As SLIFERSD said, it would be the best mercato we've had in a LONG time. Is Benzema way over priced at this point? How about Santacroce? I would love to see him in that position as well. Take a look at this:

---------------------------------Abbiati----------------------------------
----Zambrotta----Nesta/Thiago----Mexes OR Santacroce----???NewLB??---
------Flamini/Gattuso-----------Pirlo------------Gourcuff-----------------
--------------------------------Kaka-----------------------------------

gregapenny, like I said in some previous page, it has to be taken carefully because L'Equipe is not always very reliable (they announced that Henry would leave Arsenal for 5 years for example ...).

Which makes me being even more worrying about that is that I didn't find the original interview in French medias ... it's everywhere on the web in Italy, but not in France, which sounds weird.

About Benzema, he said many times this year that he will stay in Lyon for 2009-2010 and then look for another club. And Aulas fixed a 70M price for him some times ago (or more, I don't remember), so yes, he is overpriced, and Aulas is a very good commercial, so if he says 70M, he will ask for at least 60M ...

that Gourcuff wants to play for Milan...

Very logic. Every player wants to play for Milan. He had been in the starting eleven in his first months with Milan (forced Seedorf to the bench by playing as left MC) before his first injury came, injury that made him no longer the starting eleven because of his very inconsistency in the games.

With his one season very good performances' experience with Bordeaux, he should be starter in Milan pretty easily (except he can't show what he's done with Bordeaux) especially if Ancelotti really moves from Milan.

Would it make sense for us to start discussing coaching options in the mercato? It looks like Carletto's exit rumors won't go away. If so, my choice would be Rijkaard. He has the resume which includes CL+League championships. I would like to see him come to us if Carlo leaves. I'm not sure Van Basten or Leonardo would have what it takes to lead us to both championships.

Leonardo is the LAST guy I'd want as coach. He's a scout with no coaching experience, and the only reason he'd be brought aboard is because of our Brazilian contingent.

Our defensive line can't even kiss the boots of Evra-Ferdinand-Vidic-Rafael;
Our central midfield might have an advantage over Anderson-Carrick, but our wing can't be compared to C Ronaldo and Park/Giggs with their talent and work rate;

None taken :)

I said that, in my "point of view" Milan has better players than Man Utd.....well Type of players as I look at football in general.
It's difficult to explain now, but to me, Man Utd only has class in Ronaldo, and defense.
Players like Fletcher, Carrick, O'Shea, Berbatov, Anderson, Park are nothing special...to me

Our attack: Pato Ronaldinho, Midfield: Kaka, Gattuso, Pirlo, Flamini is better (to me) than Manchester's.

As I said, The only department in which we suck is defense, and that is the main problem.
I'm convinced that if we had a proper defense line, we'd be much better than Man Utd.

But there's also something special in that team...and that is that same word - TEAM
But no offense to anyone, we just put our own points of view.

I'd have to agree here with Fret.

I think we forget the affect a healthy, powerful Gattuso has on this team. It is not just whether Pirlo is healthy that dictates the health of this team, but also Gattuso. It is not just the on-the-field presence, but what he brings in confidence to the squad.

With Gattuso healthy, this Milan team was pushing for the scudetto, was winning tough games in the UEFA Cup and looking downright formidable. It is no coincidence that with Gattuso's injury the team had a huge gut-check and had to reevaluate what we were, and that is when we starting losing to Inter and then got knocked out of the UEFA Cup.

I'm not sure if the midfield really has ever been the issue for Milan, even if we keep Seedorf, Dinho, and bring back Gorky, I still don't see the problem. Milan obviously still have Janku who can will in (very well) plus the unknown qualities of Cardacio and Viudez.

It really is the center of defense that is an issue, I don't see how we are linked with Adebayor, when he is so anti-Milan in terms of style and play.

I think we constantly underestimate our players, our midfield boasts the quality of David Beckham, Pirlo, Ambro (who I used to hate but respect more and more), Gattuso, Flamini. This is a great midfield. Plus we can use Janku, Seedorf, in those roles as well.

Our attack is not wasted or old, who cares if Pippo is 37? He is not the sort of player that relies on physical attributes, and if he continues to play like he's playing, why shouldn't we rely on him? Pato is not complete yet, and I think Inzaghi's 13 goals has been critical, and if he can continue to score in that sort of range for two more years, what's the problem?

We have the best attack in Serie A, I don't see why we loose sight of what we have, and that is a great team.

Listening to those coaches and pundits who say Milan need to revolutionize their squad makes me realize why those coaches are coaching terrible teams and why those pundits only have jobs as TV hosts, they don't know how to run a club properly.

Ronaldinho seems very excited for next season and I think he is very determined to show Milan what he can do. It would be very easy for him to just leave Milan, but he's not going to. Milan should grab some talent in defense, and honestly, that's all Milan really needs.

Samaldinho,
The biggest problem right now IMO is Carlo. I've supported him for a long time, and last summer when a lot of people wanted him out I was happy that he stayed and I didn't mind it. But the performances of this team have been in a decline for the past 3 years now (I include the 06/07 season simply because we played terrible football in Italy except for 7/8 games in the CL). I am not going to get in a discussion about the players you mentioned, simply because you might be right. Time will tell. As of right now signs show that the players you are mentioning are letting the colors of the club and the fans down with their performances and the lack of work on the field. It is true that we have been hit with injuries this year and that might be a huge reason of why we are where we are......but it is still no excuse for us to witness some of the shameless performances of the guys that are not injured.

Let me get back to Carlo.....it is obvious that he is a good coach. You don't make 3 appearances in the final of the CL and win a Serie A title. But people here have already said it in the past.......he is no longer the right coach for this group of players. There is no consequences for their shameless performances and there is no authority of Carlo over his players. They miss perform yet they are still in the starting 11. The whole crowd whistles them yet they still start. The whole world (TV, fans, football fans in general, newspapers) points out their horrible showings yet the still walk the field like kings not motivated to even run for their life if they had to.

Time has come down for a person that is going to clamp up on the players' balls. Carlo has proven that he can't do that and even someone that is close to Ancelotti himself and the club has pointed that out, Costacurta. At the time, I didn't agree with Billy but I admit that I was obviously wrong as facts have proven to us that he was speaking the truth.

New coach needs to come, and then we'll see if these players still have it or not. We'll see if they are going to start running and leaving their blood on the field or simply.....their time has come and gone just like it happens to everyone.

As for the midfield not being an issue, I guess I'll totally disagree with that. I would have agreed with you about 2 years ago....but I think it's pretty evident that the midfield has problems that we need to attend to rather then just read names off a paper and get excited about how good our team sounds. It is hurtful to watch a midfield so static and immovable. Slow passing and no pace in the game. No exchanging of positions and turtle-slow build up making us so predictable that probably even a pick up team will have no problem reading where the ball will end up.
However, like I said a new coach might be able to change that as much of it may be down to the way we approach the game.

As good as Inzaghi might be, and he could very well be the best 37 year old striker in the history of the world, we cannot let his scoring record distract us from what we need to do to build a good team.

A season of Serie A is a marathon, as is the champions league. That means, we need to play well for at least 6 months to win those championships. Inzaghi's current fitness level only allows him to contribute for roughly the last two months of the season, which is something we cannot relay on if we are really serious about competing in Serie A and CL. That is why you don't see any european powerhouse teams relay on strikers over 35 to score. Even though we did score most goals in Serie A this season, our offense is hardly reliable by any stretch of the imagination. That is why I think we need to invest in a profilic striker as well as a world class CB to really have a shot at competing against the other powerhouse teams in Europe. If we only fix our defense, we'd be here talking about how our attack stinks this time next year.

I like your positive way of seeing things Samaldinho, and I do agree on most things you said. Particularly that we need to focus on the defence this Mercato. We need to replace everyone in defence except Zambrotta this summer. Nesta is my favorite player, but he's just not reliable enough as someone has mentioned before. Also every top European club really should have three world class CB's, especially if we aim for challenge for the Scudetto and Europe.

One thing I fear though, is that Berlusconi is gonna start meddling with things this summer. He has a habbit of picking up players we don't need, he's running a country, he simply doesn't have the same knowledge of whats going on as Galliani and Carlo. He was the one that brought in Ronaldinho and Shevchenko this summer as far as I know. Without them we could've gotten the CB that we needed, and our Mercato would've been perfect.

Nef,

I am not sure if it is Carlo's fault with what happens with our team all the time. When Milan's loses, we talk about the static midfield, the drop in performance, but, that will happen to any team, no matter how young or old, when they lose. When you lose, those things shine through, especially when our expectations as fans has not been met by the team.

Personally, I think Berlu being the Italian Prime Minister is bad, because he cannot spend money on the team, and when Milan has spent money, like this last summer, it really was not in the positions that we needed. What was Senderos doing in our first team? Why has Kaladze stayed as long as he has? What does it tell you when Favalli is seen as a more consistent defender in a team?

If you have played football (which I'm sure you have) you will know that the worst place to have your weakness is defense. There is a reason why Mourinho builds his team's from the back, that is where Lippi builds his teams from, and Carlo would too, if he was given the options he wanted.

I'm not sure if its Carlo's fault, because when you're missing your star defender (Nesta) for an entire season, plus the midfield enforcer who can compensate for defensive frailties (Gattuso), add onto that Kaka's niggling injuries, you have a recipe for disaster. If you want to talk about a problem, how about the team's dependence on Kaka? Ronaldinho was a smart choice, and it was made seeing how Milan's success was all most directly tied to whether Kaka was playing well or not. Which is something that bothers me more than Carlo's choices.

Carlo is stability, and stability is the key to great teams. There is a reason why Milan has done so well in the Carlo era, that's because the players know who is going to be on the bench and who they will be playing for. Look at Chelsea, a team I used to hate (still sort of do), but I feel for their players. Abramovich has destroyed those players, moving managers like a merry-go-round.

Look at what having an above average keeper in Abbiati has done to the team. Dida seems to be returning to his average levels, not what he used to be, but much better than before. Watching Kalac against Juventus made me remember why we lost to Arsenal, it was Kalac's fault. Sure Milan weren't playing well, but, that Cesc shot was hit by his purse, was near post, and slow. Kalac had the nerve to complain after the goal, it was downhill from there. Milan seemed poised to ride our usual luck and push extra time. That never came.

Seeing as the addition of old Zambro, old Becks, and a young Flamini (who really has only recently done well), with just the change of goal keeper, from a terrible one, to a decent one, has made the team move from 5th place to 2nd, what do you think Milan could do with the proper reinforcements? I don't think it is Carlo, the problem really is Berlu.

Berlu is not a bad guy. I might not agree with his politics, but, as an owner he obviously cares. Its just that he can't be seen spending money on his football team when the world's economy is shambolic. The thing is that Milan need defenders, that is really the only thing I can ask for, especially if Nesta and Boriello can play parts of the season.

And sure, most teams do not rely on 37 year-old-strikers, but most teams don't have the success that Milan does. Most teams don't have a 40 year old captain who still plays at a level that few can approach, still.

I am satisfied with Abbiati, to be honest, I hope he recovers in time to start pre-season. I agree that 3 world-class center backs is critical to a team doing well in their League and Europe. Look at the top-tier team's center: Inter: Cordoba, Chivu, Samuel; Barca: Marquez, Milito, Puyol, Pique; Chelsea: Alex, Carvalho, Ivanovic; etc etc.

Milan did well in the CL in 07 because we were lucky with injuries, looking at our starting XI in the final, that was our first team, without depth. We have been guilty of being without depth, and now, we have depth in every department except the center of defense. That is a major problem, and frankly, Milan's only problem.

When it comes to our midfield, I think the choices have to be very selective, because Flamini has struggled and he was supposed to be all-conquering, yet David Beckham has done the best of our midfield acquisitions this year. What does that tell you? Milan's team chemistry is very important and the club is selective for good reasons. Perhaps after next season we will need to start really evaluating the midfield, but for next year, we are set as far as I am concerned.

Think of the amount of midfielders, very talented midfielders, that have come and gone in the past few years: Dhorosso, Vogel, Brocchi, Emerson, all failed to take spots from our established players. Milan has tried to get the sort of fantasy players we talk about, Oliveira was someone I was very hopefully for, but he failed (though I think for non-footballing reasons). The team is very deliberate with the players they bring in, I think more than any other club in the world.

I agree with you Christian, Zambro is the only player for next year that I would rely upon. I say this over and over again, Santacroce should come next year, he would be fantastic. If Nesta can play even half of next season, then, I would just bring in Santacroce, and maybe a left-back (Grosso or Dossena, I prefer Grosso) and that way Santa and Thiago can formulate the center with heavy input from Nesta.

Boriello is what will determine whether we need to go out and buy a striker. Does everyone forget what he brought to the team when he was playing? People were talking of the Boriello era, and his command of the air and his strength, speed, were all huge for Pato and the team. So, I'd rather take Boriello than Dzeko, Adebayor, or anyone else.

The people closest to the club, Galli, Carlo, etc are all saying that the team just needs a few refreshments. People outside think otherwise, but I trust their judgment, because it is their judgment that has made Milan what it is.

Becks praises 'brilliant' Carletto
Tuesday 19 May, 2009
David Beckham believes he is privileged to play under Carlo Ancelotti and hopes the respected Coach will stay at Milan.

Ancelotti has been strongly linked with Premier League giants Chelsea after a disappointing season at San Siro.

But Beckham has revealed just how talented Carletto is and how popular he is with the players.

“Ancelotti has exceptional man-management skills and he is a brilliant Coach,” Beckham told the Daily Mail.

“It is a privilege to have played under a tactician of his class. He really is one of the greats.

“I have been lucky in my career to work with some of the best in the business and Ancelotti definitely comes under that category.

“I just wish I had been able to play for him for many more years - that would have been fun.

“It's not just my opinion, everyone at Milan loves him adores him and doesn't want him to go. They are pleading with him to stay.

“I know that wherever he goes and whatever he does he will always have my admiration and respect.”

If Becks comments were not enough I will post also Maldini's comments about this issue.
And excuse me if I were a little too sarcastic in my comment.

If Adebayor comes to Milan, not only will we be wasting money, but we will have a player who does not respond well to pressure or to a big game.

I would love to be proven wrong, of course, but I do not like Adebayor's playing style and watching his frankly lazy play against Man Utd summed him up as a player to me.

I think that Adebayor and other players that Galli and Berlu talk about are used as screens for the real targets of Milan. This has been a Milan tactic for many years now, and in fact Adebayor was supposed to be at Milan last season as well, but, the true target was Ronaldinho. So, I doubt Adebayor will be coming, I hope he's not.

I'm not sure if it a "Dzeko or Adebayor" sort of deal for Milan.

The way that Galli is talking, it seems that the two places of transfer interest this year (defense and attack) will depend on how Nesta and Boriello recover from their respective mystery injuries.

Nesta will decide what sort of center backs we bring in, while Boriello will determine whether or not we will bring in Adebayor or Dzeko or whoever.

If Adebayor or Dzeko come in, I'm not sure if Milan will certainly return to the 4-3-1-2; I think the 4-3-2-1 is the favored formation of Carlo right now.

If Carlo sticks with the 4-3-2-1, Pato obviously being the 1, how will Adebayor or Dzeko react? I don't think they'd react too well. Especially Adebayor. I really hope Boriello recovers.

Well, we would have to rotate our players then won't we? The target man can be either Adebayor, Boriello, or Inzaghi. Pato can play second striker and rotate with R80. And Kaka is fixed.
Three players for one spot is a bit of a stretch. Borriello and Adebayor will both think they deserve the lion's share of playing time so satisfying both will be extremely difficult.

If we actually are serious about competing for CL and Serie A next year, an Adebayor or Dzeko deal is a must.

As good as Pato is, he is not the type of target man we need to get the job done. His physical limitations are too much to overcome. He would make a hell of secondary striker though, if the new coach would want to employ that formation.

Borriello, on the other hand, have proved absolutely nothing in Milan jersey yet. Sure, he had a couple of good games before getting injured but so did Oliveira. If he can't handle being benched for one of the more profilic CF in the world in Adebayor, then pack up his suitcase and go to Naples.

For years, our attack have been stagnant because we only play ground ball and have nobody to fight for space in the box or in the air. And now that we have a chance to sign a good young target man, we should not let this opportunity pass away.

As a team, we should no longer settle for has beens and second rated players like we have been for the better half of the last decade. We need to step up our game and sign some of the finest in the world even if it means we have to get rid of some of the guys on our current team. Even if Nesta and Borriello returns at full strength, we'd still be facing a world class defender who has been injury prone for years and a striker who is unproven by all measurements. The question here is, can we really relay on those two to get the job done? And my answer to that is no. That is why we need to get an Adebayor and a Mexes, or players equivalent to their level rather than just settle for what's already here. Settling is what's gotten us from the best team in the world to 5th place in Serie A to begin with.

I wonder if people know football at all.

3 wc centre backs. I'm sorry but man ure have 2 players, and other than that at this moment every other team has one period.

as for signing a target man. Why? do we have such great crossers of the ball? No , we don't so let's stick with mobility & creativity upfront, coz if our midfield stays as is, then a tall forward ir a waste of money, but then, that's nothing for Milan in recent times.

I'm for Dzeko over adebayor. He has more mobility. Mexes can stay away. He is the French Bonera.

Alex, Van Buyten, Santacroce, Zapata.

Nesta can't be counted seriously as a fit CB. It's different having a 2 fit CBs compare to having 3 CBs with one of them VERY injury prone.

Which team actually have great crossers? And if we don't have such kind of that, it doesn't meen that we don't need a tall striker. Inzaghi scored many goals from crosses. Crosses can be provided by fullbacks OR other players (midfielders/forwards). Zambrotta does have good crosses. Pirlo, Kaka, Gattuso and Flamini (from midfield) can also serve the crosses (not great but not also bad).

How many teams play based on using a target player of big teams? None that I can think of. They all use smaller, more mobile players, with sharper play.

Signing adebayor for a target man role is a joke, considering he lacks the determination to do that, and what role do Kaka & pato take then? Looking for knock down's?

Poor football imo and Milan should stay away from players in that mould.

Get Dzeko, Gourcuff, Paloschi, Di Gennaro, & Abate for attakcing positions. Remove es, Seedorf, bekam, and I feel positive about our attacking options next season.

Generally I agree with you. One of the use of tall striker IMO for the games in which Milan face defensive-minded team like small teams in Serie A. The striker could be like a wall in the PK area and make more space for other forwards/players like Pato and Kaka.

I also think that better take Dzeko than Adeboyor. Dzeko is more a phisical striker and robust than Adebayor and also of course he should be cheaper than Ade.

Having Dzeko, Pato, Inzaghi, Boriello and Paloschi (next season if Inzaghi retires) I wouldn't mind. :D

ADEBAYOR DOES NOT SHOW UP IN BIG GAMES!... i mean CL games... dzeko havent seen him but i dont trust la bundesliga... its pace is real real slow great for defenders... WE HAVE TO REINFORCE THAT BACK 4 AT ALL COST Santacroce Bonera T.Silva Zambrotta... the midfield is fine is strong and cheap CAN WE LOOSE SEEDORF OR CAN HE BE ON THE BENCH?

Actually, this mercato could be quiet weird as our dreams could be shared with our nightmares ...

Gourcuff back, a new striker and new defenders is what we all want, but Gourcuff + a striker probably means a change in our way to play as we will have 4 strikers this time (if no injury). It would be a great mercato if we stop there.
The problem is that I think if that happens, we will also see some of our favourite players leaving and especially Kaka' ... which is something we all try not to believe it is possible.

Adebayor is such an over-rated player that we should have never even looked at. If we are in for a striker like that, I believe Dzeko would cost much less, and is younger, and has dribble, vision, has performed in big games more than Adebayor, has alot of assists. Dzeko seems like a very good package. Above that, he's a Milanista. I wish we don't sign Adebayor, he will be another Senderos, an utter waste.

I really think we should first look for a new coach and then decide for what players should we be getting or not. The new coach would perhaps want Seedorf/Pirlo/R80 out of here and will want to start his own new era. Whatever scenario we will take, we must start off by looking for a new coach. Maybe Van Basten's meeting with the staff earlier in the week was more about the players that he wanted and what he wanted to do with the team? Cause I believe Galliani and Braida were both present.

^^ don't worry Geo, Kaka ain't goin nowhere :)

I forgot Seedorf can also play as forward. It will be the end of us when such a talented and beloved player leave Milan. I mean without him, we are only a quick, fast and mobile team who plays with speed and beat teams by at least 2-3 goals. Now we must hope guys like Gourcuff-French Int'l-next ZZ, and Ronaldinho-only two times GoldenBallers will hopefully pick up his slack and performs better than him.

I will be bursting with tears when he leaves us.

Gazzetta thinks for Berlusconi the preference is 1) Van Basten and 2) Allegri.

The polls on gazzetta indicate that 45% of voters want Van Basten, and, as the Gazzetta reminds us, Berlusconi is sensitive to polls. This is gazzetta, not me.

Il Giornale reports that Berlu in a meeting containing several European leaders said that he "may sell Kaka'."

Things are looking fabulous for our club.

Honestly, if Kaka' goes, what's the point of watching Italian football anymore? One of the biggest players in football will leave the country. Our club's management will be official liars and frauds (as if any proof was needed). Kaka's sale will make Real stronger, much stronger. Essentially, we would be strengthening a European rival, whom we hope to surpass in the CL trophy count. Berlusconi does not want to invest in this club anymore--that much is patently obvious. However, the least he can do is have the decency (perhaps hard to muster for a man who fills main political offices with the most qualified racks) to sell. As each day goes by, I fear Kaka' will be sold. Not because of AS and Marca; rather because of the lack of conviction on part of our management. With Perez coming back, cash hard to come by, and the team quivering of old age, we need money to buy players. What better way to do that than that sell our talisman for 70 million euros. With that money we can buy a petulant Mexes and an overrated choker like Adebayor. Meanwhile, Nesta's back will continue to creak, and players of Favlli's caliber will marshal our impregnable backline.

Are you ready for next season?

What do you mean?? Every single time AS or Marca came with a story claiming this and that about Kaka, Milan have issued statements denying it just about every time. It's not that many days ago Galliani said we wouldn't sell Kaka because the fans would crusify him.

I read the story on goal.com about Berlusconi saying he could sell Kaka. The source is some newspaper, who at some state dinner apparently overheard Berlusconi discussing Kaka's future at Milan... Come on, it's extremely vague. If it was a direct quote from an interview or something like that, then we should be worried.

Well, for example, it took Galliani and Berlusconi a few days to deny that Berlusconi had said that losing the Scudetto was Ancelott's fault. Even then the denial was tepid.

When asked if Kaka' would leave, Berlusconi said, "I hope he stays." In January, we proved ourselves to be willing to listen to the right offer, which will doubtless embolden Real Madrid to make advances.

when milan has such a cronic problem with the defence buying a 30 million striker isn't the best way to solve milan problems. Adebayor, benzema, villa, eto etc are all very good players but i cant think of one reason why milan need these players. Surely milan would benefit more in the long term by buying 2 cbs and a 20 million euro striker like dzeko or acquafresca. In any case i cant see how adebayor could help beat a inter team next season that could compose of motta, milito, melo and acquafresca. best way to tackle inter next year is to toughen up the defence with mexes santacrose and pasini. get gourcuff, abate back and add dzeko, paloshci, p aubameyang in the attack.

I think the list is generally fair. It's good to see our youngsters looking like they'll get loaned out for experience, as I doubt they'd get much space at Milan. It's also positive to see that the players looking like they'll get replaced are those who are either looking slow and ineffective these days, or simply can't perform consistently.

In the goalkeeping dept, I doubt there'll be much change, and I think Kalac is less likely to leave than Dida personally. I was a little surprised that in defence it was rated Senderos is likely to stay, personally I think he has no place in Milan and we shouldn't spend on him. Santacroce is my preference for defence, and should Favalli and Kaladze stay as backups, then we will have three (possibly 4 depending on Nesta) backups including Bonera. I think should Favalli leave, we will need a relatively reliable sub (which is what Favalli would be next season). For me a a fullback is of utmost necessity, with Bonera and Antonini as backups.

The midfield I suspect should stay the same. I'm happy for Seedorf to leave should he wish to, and I believe we should bring back Abate as well as Gourcuff, which should be enough to replace him. If Dinho leaves too, then we will most likely need another player to bring creativity to the bench (just wondered if Rosicky would be a bad choice, as I believe his contract runs out this summer). It would also be nice to see a new midfield coming through to the side. Mariga seems a good option and this season Asamoah of Udinese has really impressed me too (much harder to get though I bet).

The attack needs one new player and I agree with the stats that Sheva looks on his way out (I'll be shocked if he stays). Not really sure who would be best to bring in. Dzeko seems an obvious name after this season and his desire to play at Milan, and it's most likely for these reasons he'd be ahead of Adebayor, who would be good but would cost a fortune.

Ultimately, whatever happens we need a couple of new starters for next season and we really need to strengthen our bench. For me the objective in the mercato remains the same as what it essentially has been all season, and that's to get rid of the deadwood in the squad and bring in fresh faces to strengthen areas that have weakened over time.

Well, both parties are playing innocent here.

Kaka says if Milan wants to sell me I'll go.......and Milan is saying that if Kaka want's to go we'll sell him.

Who is right as who is wrong. Kaka wants to stay iconic with the fans and keep his great picture in the world. Milan wants to be on the good side of the fans as well.

Perhaps both parties don't mind separation but they just wont say it because whoever does, will be looked at like he is the devil by thousands of fans.

Scolari to replace Carletto?
Wednesday 20 May, 2009
A shock theory is emerging in Brazil that Milan are targeting Luiz Felipe Scolari to be their new Coach alongside Leonardo.

Carlo Ancelotti is expected to walk away with Chelsea his most likely destination, but the two tacticians could be about to exchange places.

Scolari was sacked by the Stamford Bridge side earlier this season and replaced by caretaker manager Guus Hiddink.

It is reported in Brazil that Scolari is the ideal man to lead Milan's Selecao-heavy selection at San Siro.

Kaka, Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato and Nelson Dida are among the Brazilians who make up the Rossoneri squad.

The presence of Scolari would allow them to effectively hand the team over to former player and current director Leonardo.

There have long been stories that Leonardo would replace Ancelotti, but Scolari in a co-Coaching role provides more security for the inexperienced ex-player.

The same Brazilian blog claims that Big Phil is of interest to Juventus, Turkish side Fenerbahce and Uzbeki outfit Bunyodokor.

I don't understand why we should be looking for a new coach, when clearly this coach has been deprived of the players that he needs to succeed.

While Mourinho inherited a good squad, Mancini, who built the squad, was never denied a defender, a striker, or anything for that matter. His failure was where it matters most: in Europe.

Here we have a manager who has brought Milan to 3 finals, won 2 finals, and has made Milan a consistent performer, with far less at his disposal than Mancini, Mourinho, Ferguson, Wenger, or any other manager at a top club for that matter.

I honestly am at a loss for people calling for Carlo's head.

its like getting santacrocce and hamsik or lavezzi..i dont get it,it seems he wanted to sell them really badly.genoa is on the 5th position, ahead of roma and close to fiorentina, and they sell their 2 best players that easily..its ridiculous..thats a mentality of a small team, but then again who said that they're big..

im really curious to see our reaction, they got the championship so easily, and before the transfer market starts they get such reinforcments, that means those 2 players will go in milan on 1st of july, and theyll get the proper preparation..

and if you ask galliani he'll say.."WE made the first capture by buying thiago silva" and "we;re not selling kaka, who is worth 5 militos",or "dont worry we ll do our best to keep beckham till next year"

i wish we get the players needed in time needed..

Inter have some serious financial concerns I am not surprised that they are doing deals that involve cash plus players. I hope the deals don't affect Milan serie a charge for next season but it is out of our control. I would always like Milan to purchase midfield but considering what we have on loan it would be foolish. I hope Milan can exchange borriello for acquafresca lol, inter are grasping at the players they think will win them the champions league. I wouldn't be so sure that milito and motta work out just look at mancini reliable as the day was long and he flopped at inter. the best milan can react to this is to sign Dzeko now and than purchase navaro santacrose and mexes.

I'm not to bothered about Milito and Thiago Motta. There was talks about Aguero, and the likes, etc. and Milito is a great goalscorer, but the attackers being mentioned earlier were much more scary. And if Inter think Thiago Motta is gonna give them the creative spark they need, then that's just that much better.

I don't care about these players going to Inter but I would be a bit worried if I was a Genoa fan ... Firstly, Milito said he wouldn't leave because he loves this club, and he finally stays only one year and leaves for the first big club to make an offer. Very weird, I wouldn't like a guy like that in Milan. Then about Thiago Motta, Genoa allowed him to be back by giving him a starting place in their midfield after his failure in Barcelona and his many injuries, and he thanks them by leaving in the first big club to make an offer too ...

Worst, the fact that they leave is officially announced before the end of the championship whereas Genoa could still qualify for the next CL ...

You see, people like to bash the way Galliani runs the club sometimes and how he is in medias, but when I see what Genoa did there (actually, they just want to become a kind of big bench for Inter ?), I'm happy not to be a Genoa fan and to be a Milan fan with Galliani and co to the head of the club ...

The key term "HAS BROUGHT"... that's all in the past... and if you look at the line up today, almost the same team, and they haven't been performing for the past 2 seasons!

Kicked out of UEFA, Coppa and Serie A gone in Jan doesn't really inspire any of us.

I think everyone is frustrated at Carlo for sticking to the same players, irregardless of form... Only if he gave the same believe to Gorky as he does to Seedorf...

So, we have brought in new players, but they don't play!

Gabriel489
20-05-2009, 23:08
You can say that Carlo guided Milan into Two CL Champ, One League Champ, One IT Cup Champ, three CL finals... But pls don't say that we don't have a good team at that time.

We probably had the best team in Europe between 2003-2005, exp in 2005
In 2005, we had the most powerful squad in all of Italy and Europe and yet we got nothing but the biggest defeat in the history of CL.

Dida, even though he is pure crap now was actually on par with the GREAT BUFFON.
A defense of Cafu-Nesta-Maldini-Pancaro were as solid as anyone in Europe or in the league, on top of that we have guys like Stam, Billy, Simic, and Kaladze on the bench.
At midfield, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, kaka, Rui Costa, Ambro, Vogel and Serginho
At attack, we had Pippo, Sheva, JDT and Crespo.
Now, if you think a team like that is not a good team, then I have no idea what a good team is.

Yes, we won 1 league title, 1 IT Cup and 2 CL under Carlo, but with the team he had during 2003-2005, we should have won a lot more. Somehow, the team could not play consistently during the league campaign, and with the top two biggest defeat of CL history, we managed to only win one CL title and one league title during those three years instead of winning it three in a row.

I will always remember that, those years we could have made history in the right way, but Carlo blewed it.

Look at ManU now, they are like a machine but their team is not even close to be as talented as we were in the 2003-2005. And yet, they are beating everyone left right front and back b/c they are consistent, something that Fergie knows how to do while Carlo is still clueless after all these years being a manager. Pls don't say, the EPL does not have team like Juve...b/c I think the Blues and Pool at the same level as Juve and Roma during the 2003-05. And don't use the excuse of Series A are more defensive minded....b/c Juve seems to be able to break those defense and yet we could not.

One more thing, during the 2003-04 year, I believe we only had two games that we conceded more than 3 goals. The game against Udinese, right after the trip of World Club Championship in Japan and Leg 2 against Deportivo when we led 4-1 in leg 1 and lost 4-0 in leg 2.

In 2005, no need to mention how we lost CL.

I agree only to some extent. Here is my attempt to respond to some of your points:

1) I wonder if any coach in the world will be able to respond within that 6 minutes when for pretty much for the rest of the match Milan dominated Liverpool.

Sometimes, we just need to accept that impossible things happen (e.g., rockets beating Lakers TWICE at Toyota center without Yao Ming).

2) The defensive line is very strong, but we also remember how some people (in fact, a lot of) people criticize them as being old.

3) Maybe you can compare that team with Man Utd (this and last and probably the year before last year). Also with Barcelona's team this year.

4) "we should have won a lot more". Gosh, I honestly don't know about this. More from a hindsight to be honest. We win 4 out of 9, and we can win more? I don't know; maybe you are right, but I don't know.

I honestly think you have put too much weight on the loss we had against Liverpool, and to be honest i don't know if you are being fair to Milan at all. Yes, we have the strongest team that year, but does the strongest team always win? No. was Milan better than liverpool 2 years ago? No, but did we win? Yes. I think it's also unfair that Liverpool sucks or their coach sucks because Liverpool didn't win.

5) i'm not sure if we haven't made history (which you should define: 9 out of 9?), and I'm not even sure if Carlo is responsible for blowing it. Not Gattuso for stupidly fouling Gerrard? Not those lazy folks who didnt' go after the penalty after Dida saved it? Not Dida who didn't make a good save?

Yes, maybe for the league games, but Serie A is no merry-go-around, and teams know how to defend against us well. If there is one taint on Carlo's CV, it is that somehow his team is not consistently doing well in Serie A.

But the year we won it: we have a very very healthy squad too, and a healthy partnership between Gila (who actually scored 14 goals with no penalty) - Sheva (who scored consistently, also from penalty), and Kaka. Compared to now with a young Pato - slow Seedorf - Recuperating Kaka`.

In fact, that's the ONLY year when we have two strikers available and ready to play game in game out. We haven't really been able to do that for a lot of years now (go ask the management why).

I think you honestly underestimate Man U's squad. the system works really well, and the players are, to be honest, REALLY good (Ronney + CR9 game in game out; have you seen Kaka` game in game out for the past few seasons? I don't think so.

***

My last point: I think you are trying to fit your theory (of why Carlo should go) with some of the more few examples out there. And I don't think you'll need me to count the number of times when Carlo actually makes thing work, the endless substitutions that actually work.

we tend to remember the bad things almost 4 times as likely as the good thing , and when it comes to whether we should sack a coach, it's all too easy to remember the bad and not the good.

***

The key to me is:

1) ON average, is Carlo a consistent cup-winning coach? If yes, keep. If not, out.

2) If Carlo is out, who can be a consistent cup-winning coach in the future?

To that, MVB is an impossible candidate.

The key term "HAS BROUGHT"... that's all in the past... and if you look at the line up today, almost the same team, and they haven't been performing for the past 2 seasons!

Yes, it's the key term ... "Has brought" means it was in the past and it's not ended ... (little lesson of english from a French guy :D). He didn't use preterit because, as you said, it's the key term, for him, Carlo can still bring things to that club, and it's what I think too.

We have a coach who loves the club (I think there's no need to prove it ?), a coach that brought us titles since his first years and allowed us to be the best team in Europe for 5 years, they only really struggle in all competitions since last year, and the way the management worked on the various mercatos is probably one of the main reasons: let's imagine that Thiago Silva is a rock in defence, now let's imagine that we didn't take Sheva, and so let's imagine that Thiago Silva was able to play like a rock in our defence since January ... don't you think some of our problems would have been quickly solved ??

What I mean is that with one or two players, Carlo could still bring us titles, we weren't so far from Inter (even if some people say it is thanks to Inter, but we won all these games in a row thanks to our players and our coach, not Inter) ...

The fact : We fail this season. We could actually challenge Inter until the last game (Inter lost so many points but we couldn't take the advantage, instead we lost so many points when we were on top of the league) but we were just so inconsistent and tactical decisions of Carlo costed us many points.

But again there are always alibies.

I dont agree with some points in the first paragraph abt milito and motta..milito doesn't seem to be the guy who jumps ship when he gets the first opportunity to do so..Genoa sold milito than say milito left genoa..and genoa are the one who are gonna hugely benefit from this deal..milito came to genoa for abt 8mln and motta was free...now they leave and genoa get Aquafresca and abt 30mln...these guys in genoa seem to do amazing buisness..last year they bought about 8 first team players..now with already having got Aqua and floccari and having another 30mln to spend i can see their team getting more stronger than this season...

Jeff, I disagree with a lot of what you said.

1. The CL final against Pool in 2005. We were leading 3-0 at half time, and we lost on penalties at the end. Maybe no coach in the world can react to that 6 mins attack from Pool that year, but on the other hand, I don't think any coach could surrender a 3-0 lead at a final. It is like the Lakers having a 50pts lead at half time and then losing by 1 pt at the end of the game.
2. Defensive line being old, well, they might be old then but they were the best. Unlike now, old and not even close.
3. Winning more, well, if we beated Pool in 2005, that will make it 1 more CL. ANd if that Deportivo game did not happened like it did, we could have easily beat Porto and then Monaco in the finals..

As for replacing Carlo. To be honest, I don't think there is anyone available that is better than Carlo in terms of coaching and managing right now. Having said that, I don't believe he is the right coach for Milan at this point in time.

Srna has been linked to us in the last day or two, though I've not heard much about it (I think it was originally reported in a German newspaper) so doubt there's much in it. He's an interesting player mind, though will be hard to get from Shakhtar.

The other news today is we're supposedly interested in Scolari.

http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/may20r.html

So, Leonardo takes over with Scolari helping out as a co-coach. Seems like a bizarre idea, but again I doubt there's any real truth to it.

I do agree that Carlo Should've probably won more with the squad we had between 2003 and 2006. The Liverpool game is one thing, but he has a big part of the responisbility for the Deportivo game. That year the CL was up for graps, actually I'm 90% sure, that had we not messed up, we would've won that CL. The Liverpool exit was alot of things, but can't forget that for everything, but those 6 minutes, we played the best footbal of any team in a CL final since 1994. We should've won more leagues, but Juve were really strong at that time aswell, and very lucky ;)

We can't forget that it was Carlo that build the squad though. When he came in 2001 we spend big money, and it payed off. We got Pirlo, Nesta and Rui Costa and except Rui Costa look how good investments Pirlo and Nesta have been. It's a shame it went the way it did, because this Milan could've been as great as Sacchi's Milan.

Anyone watched the UEFA cup final yesterday btw? Srna was very good in that match, I wouldn't mind having a player like that in Milan.

Galliani: No chaos at Milan
Thursday 21 May, 2009
Adriano Galliani insists there's no chaos at Milan and will clarify the Rossoneri's future direction once they secure a Champions League place.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti has been widely linked with Premier League giants Chelsea.

There could be sweeping changes in the summer as superstar Kaka has also been tipped to join Real Madrid.

“There is no chaos and Milan,” Galliani stated. “We have very clear ideas that we will communicate as soon as we secure a Champions League berth.

“Decisions are always shared between myself and Silvio Berlusconi. We are in perfect harmony and I hope to show that with our announcement on Monday.

“We absolutely have to beat Roma and then we can be calm against Fiorentina where we would otherwise have to draw or win.”

Galliani then gave the latest on Kaka and French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff.

“Florentino Perez is a great friend and we have often spoken during the three years that he hasn't been Real Madrid President. Any move for Kaka would have to come through me.

“Gourcuff has become a star. Bordeaux have the chance to sign him before May 31, but he is still our player. I hope that Yoann stays.”

Milito and Motta to Inter

http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2009/05/20/1277226/official-diego-milito-thiago-motta-join-inter-sergio-floccari-to-

its like getting santacrocce and hamsik or lavezzi..i dont get it,it seems he wanted to sell them really badly.genoa is on the 5th position, ahead of roma and close to fiorentina, and they sell their 2 best players that easily..its ridiculous..thats a mentality of a small team, but then again who said that they're big..

im really curious to see our reaction, they got the championship so easily, and before the transfer market starts they get such reinforcments, that means those 2 players will go in milan on 1st of july, and theyll get the proper preparation..

and if you ask galliani he'll say.."WE made the first capture by buying thiago silva" and "we;re not selling kaka, who is worth 5 militos",or "dont worry we ll do our best to keep beckham till next year"

i wish we get the players needed in time needed..

PS floccari and aquafresca to genoa..

Inter can make these transfers now because their season is basicly over. We still don't know if we'll qualify for the Champions League or what, so we naturally can't start making deals. I expect something to happen if we beat Roma this weekend.

But you do have a point, we need to get the transfers done befor the pre-season begins. We've all to often ruined a season by playing poorly at the beginning of the season.

From my point of view, Preziosi is genius.

Diego Milito is 30 years old. He guarantees a few goals every season, beetween 10 and 15. He had a perfect season and it is the best moment to sell him. In the future he'll be worth less. And what did Preziosi do? He earns 16 mln euro for player who won't be better and he also has rights to one of the most gifted young forward in Italy - Robert Acquafresca. Of course, only half of the card. But we know that Genoa can promote forwards. Marco Borriello at first, then Diego Milito... Acquafresca has got bigger potential that 'Il Bomber' and 'Il Principe'. If Inter would like to re - sign Robert in the future, they'll have to pay for 50% rights. As I remember Bonucci is also involved in this deal.

Gabriel489

Personally, I think Inter did not improve much with the signing of Milito and Motta. Since Milito is not much of an upgrade from Crespo and Cruz, and I would actually take Stankovic over Motta anyday.

If those two are the so call big signings for Inter, then I am really glad.

Come on Berlu, stop saying Kaka is for sale, instead just sell Seedorf and Kaladze and everyone will call u a great man.

I have already reacted to some of your points in the other posts, so I will not repeat myself.

1) I like your analogy about Laker leading by 50 points and lose by 1 at the end of the game. Two reactions:

a) While not as dramatic as that, we can still count games when a team led by more than 30 points (in basketball) and got caught up. Not sure if 50 points = 3 goals lead or what and let's not get too far in the analogy ;).

b) Surrounding a 3-0 lead in the final is very rare; but it could have just as easily be as 6-0. I don't know why you are counting so much against our team because we got caught. Yes we lost - and that's it.

Think about it: The way that we played against liverpool in 2007 compared with Liverpool in 2005; we would have lost by a big margin, but there is simply no IF. If it happened, it happened.

Finally, is there any coach who lost 4-0 in a CL final (e.g., our game against Barcelona)? Is there any coach who lost 3-0 in the first half of a CL (e.g., we played against Liverpool?) I don't think it happened very frequently, but anyway I think I'm getting too far...

2) I'm not even sure if that's Carlo's fault that the defensive line is terrible. Perhaps he could have been more vocal with the management team, but I don't know. We'll lay this piece of argument to the future.

3) There are so many 'if' statement we can make, how about: if we didn't score against Roma (by Sheva), securing Serie A? If we didn't even win against Red Star in the preliminary qualifier? If we didn't even get Calciopoli (that's a BIG if; think about how miserable Inter would be and how they have robbed so many Serie A from there onwards). So many if, so little room for error.

4) Be honest with you: My fear is that we are simply finding scapegoat again and again and again over so many years for our performance. Is it going to solve the problem?

***

At this very moment, Carlo is still the right coach, for the simple reason: to secure a spot in CL. But if the team let these stupid rumors flying around to hurt the team morale, then either Berlusconi is responsible (for making the comments) OR Gallini is responsible for not clearing up things (if media made it up).

At this point, nothing more important than getting a CL spot. Not the time to talk about sacking the coach.

J

Gabriel489
21-05-2009, 09:23
NOt going to get into any other if this and that thing anymore as there is really no point. The fact is, we lost to Pool in the CL final by being up 3-0 at half time.

As for finding scapegoat, well, I don't think people are looking at Carlo the only reason for us not doing well over the past two years. To me there are a lot of reasons for our struggles this year and the last.

Not adding the right pieces to the squad is a huge reason.
Injuries is another.
Signing old and useless players to huge financial deals is the third.
I would not blame the inability to develop players on Carlo, as I think it had more to do with the club as awhole.
Having said that, Carlo should be responsible for playing his fav. players regardless of their form, ie Seedorf, Kaladze and even Senderous. You might argue, Carlo had no options then to play them, but I would say that there are.

To be honest, I am still not convince a new coach be able to come in and solve all our problems, but if it means Seedorf, Kaladze and others being shown the exit door. Then thats a great start.

Jeff
21-05-2009, 09:28
Even if he moves on and beat the very same team that caught up 3-0 down? I don't know about that, I don't know. I think some levels of courage, and a taste of revenge, is there.

I don't know why Kaladze is in the pic; he was horrible, for a while already, but he didn't play most of the game this season, so weird why he is mentioned. Though, yes, he is terrible.

I agree on Seedorf: I think that's Carlo's biggest shortcoming. Perhaps that's the reason Milan plays poor, it's freaking Slowdorf!

We should come back to this topic after we beat Roma, or otherwise Fiorentina.

i see our opponents improving(for me making right decisions),and we stand still..even if you dont like those players and you see nothing special on them its ok(although you re wrong),but you cant say they re not planning the future like a serious club should do..

our managmet declairs that our market depends on nestas and borrielos recovery....that has nth to do with our obvious needs...e.g we certainly need a cb a fw(even if they recover),and what about gourcuf?

Okay, before you bite my head off. I never, ever, ever said that the Milan squad wasn't talented. So before you start launching attacks at me, reread what I wrote.

I said Carlo achieved so much without the resources of other coaches. I was talking about money. Mourinho has been able to spend as he pleases, so does Ferguson, so did Mancini, Ranieri spent 10 million on Poulsen! P-O-U-L-S-E-N.

Perhaps Carlo was given money at the beginning of his reign, but he has had to continuously try to be thrifty with his transfers and it bothers me. He rarely gets to spend anywhere near the amount of other top clubs, and that was what I was talking about.

All the great defenders you speak of, Pancaro, Cafu, Stam, all were brought in free, or with minuscule exchanges. The amount of money that teams like Barca, Madrid, Man Utd can all spend is ridiculous and since 2001 none of those teams have had Milan-like success.

Before you go into how it was Carlo's fault against Liverpool, which is ridiculous, let's say it was Carlo's fault, well guess what, he made up for it by winning it later on. So who cares?

If Carlo leaves I pray that whoever replaces him is adequate, because I don't think a club-coaching failure in Scolari, a cheque-manager Rjikaard, or virtual no bodies like Leonardo should be coming anywhere near the bench.

It's true those teams spend more money than Milan, but how have they been less succesful than us? If we're talking CL, then yes, but what really counts (at least imo) is the league. We've only won it once under Carlo, Madrid and Barca have won la liga three times each, United have won the premiership four times. To me they've been the more succesful teams, frankly.

true but to a degree these were all squad signings. We had an inprime nesta (best defender in world) and maldini (arguably 2nd best in world at age 35). We also had costacurta who was still solid. We had a primed midfield and attack.

Now our only potential class defender is nesta who is 33 and not played a whole season. Zambrotta is a solid fb i suppose, but milans strongest point over last 20 years is now a mess.

if you look best teams always have best backline partnerships. Before it was milan, now its man utd who has ferdinand-vidic. Since that partnership got set, they have been near unbeatable. Hell when we beat man utd 2 years ago, no1 mentiond they were missing vidic, evra and gary neville. I doubt we would have won in a semi's in 2003 if nesta, costacurta and kaladze were out and only maldini played.

we've brought in thiago silva who management has high hopes for, from what ive seen he looks very good. I'll withhold judgment until i see more of him but assume he is a start. We still need another class defender

and this is carlos biggest problem. I love carlo, and if we get a new coach, i want to point out... i will not have the same confidence in a CL match in march/april that i did with carlo.

But if u look at this season, even with a depleted squad, i can think of games, he's blown. Lecce where we played for a 1-0 and drew. Torino in november we had lead and blew to a draw. both roma and genoa in january were we sat on 1 goal leads thinking we'd win. 2 more draws. That alone is 8 points lost, without getting into juve and udinese games. Or WERDER in uefa cup.

I agree carlo has got a bit of a raw deal with signings, but then again he has proven by constantly fielding seedorf and others, when given younger new players he wont play them

I ythink another factor that we haven't been able to take into account for is Caciopoli.

Caciopoli's contribution to Inter's 'sudden domination' in Serie A, together with Milan, Juve, and other's downfall, is way too obvious to ignore.

yes but barring serie A in 2006-7 shouldnt we have been a beneficiary of a WEAK juve. We won CL in 2007, had money come in. could have reinforced... instead we got 5th with only 1 team (inter) able to match us financially

I'm surprised that there isn't some more praise for Zapata after that game on Saturday. We had 0 shots on goal for the majority of the game, Pato was kept extremely quiet as well. We can't bank all our hopes on Nesta's recovery, we need another CB and I'm sure the management know this.

I don't think you need to jump on me like that. And my explanation is far more condemning. It's more than just having one year and than we win in CL 2007 and things get back to normal.

It's like a shakeup in the US economy and you expect them to be power house again once the damage is done. No, the Chinese has become relatively stronger, gained more status (also because US lost status)... etc (note this is not about politics, just an analogy; I apologize if I offend anyone).

Just think about how many players Inter has stolen (e.g., Ibra who has been influential this year) from Juventus, and think about how Milan was crippled both from a reputation perspective but also from a financial perspective. I don't know if Milan has the financial health to invest in the market last year or the year before, but ignoring how Inter has risen to the realm of Serie A which coincides perfectly with Caciopoli is nonsensical.

Isn't it time to also consider factors that influence team performance from a macro perspective?

Im back :) I was out on a trip for 2 weeks and I have missed Udinese game and all the mercato news. Good thing is that I also missed Merda's celebration which was gifted by our "brilliant" approach in a game vs Juve already and then of course in Udine.

We can now expect that on monday, if we beat Roma, Milan will name the new coach. Lets hope the new coach is not the old one. But we cant say more untill monday when we see who is the man. Im guessing it is Marco Van Basten. He quit just before "Carlo to Chelsea" news, and Berlusconi has said Milan plans a new and fresh coach for new circle. I also remember that Thiago was saying how he signed for Milan coz of the plan they told him about, the new squad etc. Also, Gourcuff looks like coming back and we know he will not come back if Carlo is a coach.

About Van Basten I cant say much. As a coach he is a str5ange man. He behaves strange as I can see him. Holland played brilliant on Euro, then he got completely owned by Hiddink ( not a surprise, everyone got ). Ajax wasnt good at all this year...I dont know. But he knows for attacking football and hate towards slow players :)

Its great to see Gourcuff wants to come back, I hope he will be our player again as it is simply too stupid to let him go for 15mln when we can get great young and now already experienced player for nbothing. He has grown in his game and also phisically as I can see. Seedorf will not be in first plan the moment Carlo leaves Milan. And Pirlo's attitute will change for sure.

While I was away I had a chance to see Dzeko's games twice. He again looks really impressive in his smart movement, strenght and also some good assists. There are also rumors Drogba could be out and Galliani stated we need experienced players for CL... Drogba is top 5 forwards in the world, for sure he can play enywhere he wants.

Nesta started training well. If we can have him it would solve so many things. It doesnt bother me that he hasnt played for one season. One summer of preperations and 3,4 games and Nesta will be great again. He is too good to get rusty.

Maybe our mercato moves will compose of one good CB ( I really wouldnt be surprised if it was Mexes, aldough I dont support that), one good Cf and Gourcuff. All in all that is 3 top class players. And anew coach.

Milito to Inter is better then Drogba to Inter for sure! Milito is a great player, but lets not confuse him to Drogba, Torres etc.

Hearing very much these days that we gonna change the coach, then Silvio saiyng that he can sell Kaka with the right price.
The question, what is the plan for our team from Berlu, to go better or to go worse?

the problem is Milan is unable to compete with real and English teams on a organisational level, most rivals have put new infrastructure into the clubs and as result are able to gain higher returns. I do think inflation in football transfer fee and wages and the cost development is hindering Milan financial position but we should be able the make the tough choices and cut 30 million in expenditure. Football tends to be insulated against economic recession as fans are unwilling to give their season tickets, Macro conditions have had a small affect on the finance of ac milan.

If you consider inter, man utd, liverpool and real our rivals you see that they gear themselves up to the hilt to pay for new players. Milan should done this after the 2007 final for simple reason that it would cost less to entice players to come to AC Milan. even galliani admitted that not signing 3 or 5 players in 2007 was mistake that cost him 40 million euros.

WE'RE ONLY THINKING ABOUT ROMA
5/21/2009 10:15:00 PM
At the 'Sony' event held tonight in Milan, Ricardo Kaká was present and he talked about the team's concentration on the match against Roma and reiterated his attachment to Milan.

(ON THE ARCHIVE PHOTO: RICKY KAKÁ)

MILAN - Here are the declarations made by Ricky Kaká on football topics during the 'Motionflow Night' event organised by Sony, of which he is a testimonial, held tonight at the Ippodromo del Galoppo in Milan:

ON THE MATCH AGAINST ROMA
"The week is going well, we are preparing very well and when you train the possibilities of winning on Sunday afternoon against Roma increase strongly."

ON ANCELOTTI'S FUTURE
"In the dressing room the voices on Carlo Ancelotti's future create no problems because there's been talk of a possible departure of his for a long time. Certainly these voices disappoint us, but at the moment we are all concentrated on Sunday's match against Roma, including the coach himself. Let's wait, on Monday we will know everything.
Personally I try not to say anything, there's a lot of speculation, but again, let's wait.
For me Ancelotti remains the best coach Milan could have, the team is happy with him and he is able to handle the dressing room like no one else.

"Juventus have brought in Ferrara, this means they want to give space to a new generation of coaches, it doesn't revalue Italian football. If Milan decided to aim for an emerging coach, it would also an opportunity for us to have a new cycle of young coaches.
In the past Milan have had many cycles of coaches and players, but always with the same president and the same management: this means that certainly there will be another winning cycle.
Just look at the positive example of Guardiola, no one expected much from him because he had only coached the B team of Barcelona, he brought the team into the Champions League final.
Van Basten? I would be happy to be coached by someone like him who made Milan's history. Tassotti? He's been us for many years and after winning so much he has made up a certain experience."

ON HIS FUTURE
"I am close to the club, certainly, also to the coach, but I have a contract with Milan until 2013 and not with Carlo Ancelotti. At the moment my contract says enough, any other transfer news regarding me will be discussed by the club. The offer from Manchester City in January was real, but if in the future the club receives other offers for me, it will be the club themselves who will say it. If they don't say anything it means there is no offer. As for me, I'm happy here. In the future many things can happen, but it's difficult to imagine me not being at Milan.
As I've said many times, as long as Milan and I have the same objectives, we will certainly come to an agreement."

Man, I am not liking the direction this whole mercato is going. Once again, while our rivals are signing players (Inter with Arnautovic, Motta and Milito; Juve with Cannavaro and Diego), we are standing around talking about the this and that. For once, I would like to see Galliani shutting his mouth and actually go out and do his job. We hired this guy to be a GM, not Public Relation director, right?

Although some of you might not agree with some of the signings Inter and Juve did make, they are at least trying to improve their squad. We, on the other hand, are going through the same motion we did the past few seasons. We create some conflicts (coaching changes, Kaka leaving etc) to distract people's attention first; then we will talk about all the big name players we are looking to bring in (Adebayor, Mexes etc); and lastly we will negotiate for months and come out in August to declare us "way too good a team for any new signings".

For the record, I do agree with Milan needing a new organizational structure. This team is now so poorly managed that it is really not possible for us to compete with the big teams in Europe. We overpay for second rated players rather than underpay for good ones because of the tiny price differentials; we pay incredably high salaries to players that no longer deserves them; and we make signings for purely marketing purposes. The focus of a soccer team management is to improve the team first and everything else second. We, on the other hand, consider team improvement the last on our list of priorities. The lack of planning and direction of the management has driven us to the ground and will continue to do so until changes are made.

PS: for the guys who talked about the Lakers being up 30 and losing the game. If you have seen them play this season, and as a Lakers fan, I have, that isn't as impossible as you might think given their habit of blowing huge leads down the stretch. Lol!

all your points are accurate, and I apologize if i seemed to jump all over you. (I had alot of coffee this morning at work :) )but it still seems to me the major problem is we are claiming we have a limited budget to spend with (which is fine, most teams r in same situation because of world economy). Yet we make a) poor purchases and b) wont sell assets to fund more purchases.

If you want a competitive full squas sometimes you have to sell a player for 2-3 top prospects. Secondly, if you can only afford 1-2 big players, y buy ronaldinho when we have kaka(?!). I'm a realist, I dont think we can just go buy benzema, vidic and fabregas (for ex) but if you're going to limit your spending, spend wisely. Would a man who only makes 40k a year go out and lease a mercedes?

Sadly we got a dictomy of belief going on here. The thing is, milan claims to be a business and a family. You can't do both. If you want a family environment sometimes you lose money, because u want to keep seedorf happy, gattuso happy etc. But then you can't claim we lack money to make changes (because those players are absorbing it all). Especially if you're unwilling to change the players!

personally i love kaka, but i think he is overrated (by milan fans) too. I know most people will jump on me, but if we got a 100 mil euro offer I'd sell him. If we could recoup our ronaldinho money, i'd sell him. Use that money plus other profits. Rebuild. As great as kaka is, if we cant surround him with the necessary pieces to win (defense, a CF, some width!) then whats the point? More than half the games he plays poorly cause our tactics r so predictable and easy to stop. And its not fun to watch anymore. It wouldnt be first time milan has changed or the last. And to a degree I find it fitting, with il capitano retiring time for a new era.

Totally, as much as we'd ike to think Thiago and Nesta could play 40-50 games next year its really not going to happen. Zapata would be such an easy grab. If we are gambling on a young brazilian who hasn't played any top flight football, why not go for a trusted serie a defender in Zapata?

ITs funny how most of you are already jumping on Galli and Berlu before the transfer season. Now I am now going to be like GianCarlo and say the MGT has a great plan.....b/c they don't. What they like to do is to piss us off, kind of like now, then they will come in with one great signing-most likely someone we don't really need, like Dinho last year, or keeping Kaka like in Jan, and all of us will be happy and this and that and think they are GODS..... The truth is, once that happens, we all forget that, the team is still the same old team with the same old problems.

Ofcourse, I would like nothing better than the MGT proving me wrong.

I think part of the reason INter is dominating is due to the scandal, but we did won CL in 2007 and finished behind two teams that were in Series B in the previous year in 2008.

Like you said, we should have signed players after our 2007 CL win, but we didn't. And with no CL in 08-09, it was impossible to sign anyone after 2008. ANd then it is now. If we manage to get into CL, I expect at least 4-5 signings, actually with T.Silva already signed and Gourcuff coming back. There should be at least 3 more signings with about 4-5 departures.

Having Van Basten as a coach is interesting, as he prefers movment. He is a modern coach and if the Dutch actually have a better defense, that team could have gone all the way. It will be interesting to see how players like Gattuso, Ambro and Pirlo reacts to his style, as Van Basten likes his midfield to push up to take shots.

Coffee (and caffeine) is bad :D.

I do agree with what you say about our management, except the piece about Kaka`. I don't think selling him is wise; there are players that you just should not sell. Having said, the management was actually ready to sell if Kaka` wanted to go. so I'm not sure 100% if you are accurate here re: the manageemtn of Kaka` by Berlu and Galliani.

IT seems to me (and I'm guessing here) that the problem is more of the management, not the players nor the coach. Or am I getting the wrong impression?

Well, I doubt the MGT demand Carlo to play Seedorf all the time.
