Good point! I myself is from Denmark, which is probably around the same size as the United States when it comes to football give or take.

There aren't that many Danish players playing in top clubs. The thing is, at least here and I imagine it might be like that in the US aswell, that when a Danish player moves to a top club that club gets ALOT more attention. When Michael Laudrup became coach in Spartak Moskva they started showing the Russian league on Danish tv, just because he was there, and he's not even a player... the Russian league!!! I would imagine that Onyewu would atleast bring some more attention to Milan from the football fans in the US. Also don't forget that Milan are playing friendlies in USA aswell this summer...

Milan raid on the US?

Maybe Landon Donovan is next? (He'll be available for free in January!) :D

That rumour about Santacroce is bull****!

Come on you guys you all should know better,Napoli wants to target a C.League place next season and is planning to build a superteam, thats why they paid for example 20 million for Quagliarella of Udinese and they bought Cigarini and they intend to buy more, they wont let Santa go and if they will let him go,do you really think he will ONLY cost 6 million....i dont think so.Especially nowadays when people are spending like crazy.

So its just bull****...

If you look at our team now,we should win Serie A with the right tactics,we acctually have a strong team only we lack 2 players thats it.

Abbiati(Dida)
Zambrotta(Bonera)-Nesta(Onyewu)-Silva(Kaladze/Favalli)-Jankulovski(Albertazzi)
Gattuso(Flamini)-Pirlo(Seedorf-Cardacio-Flamini)-Ambrosini(Flamini-Seedorf-Janku)
Pato(Abate)-Borriello(Pippo)-Ronaldinho(Di Gennaro)

its not a bad team, the midfield in my opinion is complete, for 3 spots we have enough quality players there. The attack lacks something,a good striker. And the defense lacks a LB because Janku is made for LM not LB.

Also,to many people are counting on Dida for next season, but seeing Abbiati training with the squad a bit yesterday i think he will make it in time for the first game,so not then Dida will only play 2 games before Abbiati steps in.

RO was not cheap at €17.5million. Plus, he had family members who were kidnapped during the vast majority of the season. I'm not sure how that makes him a cheap flop, it's just an unfortunate circumstance.

If you don't remember, when Ronaldo was playing for Milan, he reinvigorated the side. In fact, his play in the league (when he came in the winter) allowed the team to focus more on the CL, and he really was a major contributor to that CL winning season. Again, an unfortunate injury.

So please, let's bring into perspective how Milan actually works.

I'm just more concerned about the fact we now have Onyewu, who I do not rate very highly at all.

Milan sold Sheva for like 45Mil. To me a replacement of a 45mil player should be of the same calibre. RO is not even without all his problems. R99 was solid but with his history of being unfit and injuries, not really someone you want as a replacement for Sheva.
RO was not really wanted by any TOP clubs in Europe and R99-Real cannot wait to dumb him.
To me both are cheap replacements.

One thing I will say about Onyewu is that he is an absolute tank! He would make Drogba look like a sugar dandy.

If you ask me, this is Galliani being smart. I'll tell you why. Americans pour money into anything, there is a reason why America is the world's strongest economy, they just buy anything. One of the smartest things Fulham did was to buy a core of American players, did you notice that after they did, Nike became their kit provider?

That was because American players bring in lots of money and attention. I hope that Onyewu will just be another backup CB like Senderos, but I think it's really something to just make sure that Milan can now start taking portions of that American market, because the Prem is all ready popular with Americans (who love kick-and-run football) but that their players are there, makes it even more solid.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I think that's at least a big part of why Milan got him.

I agree with getting someone for Market Value. But don't you think signing Donovan or Dempsy or even that Adlitore guy would be much much better than signing a CB?
I mean, if you want market share, Morimoto or even Nakemura are talented offensive players who Milan can sign on the cheap while also selling tons in Japan and HK and even China.

Gooch has great potential. He's not the finished product just yet, but hopefully guys like Nesta and Maldini can polish him up.

Just have to quote you Rick. If you take away Gooch and insert Senderous. Thats exactly what many including myself said in Sept, 08.

Voices around the San Paolo claim Napoli want around €6 million, but the Old Lady want to spend less than that.

SOME INTERESTING MERCATO NEWS RELATING TO MILAN:

-Tuttomercatoweb is saying that 65 procent of the rights of Luis Fabiano are in hands of a bussinesman named Zahavi, apparently we have a very good relationship with this man, because he ownes so much of Fabiano's transfer rights Luis has to be sold for more then 11 Million,Sevilla denies it and says Fabiano are theirs. It seems that if Sevilla and Milan and Zahavi cant reach a deal a court will force Sevilla to sell Fabiano for around 15 million.

So very very strange news and i dont get it,i think its crap....

-We are interested in another Treviso player named Barbini,he is a offensive midfielder and if he comes he will play at our Primavera.

-Cissokho said in a interview with L'Equipe that he hasnt a problem with his teeth and that it is made up because of economical reasons,he also said that he doesnt now where he will play next season and stated that Porto and Milan are stil talking....

I'm glad I'm not the only one who understands that Pato was the replacement for Sheva!

As for RO, Milan fans have tended to be far too harsh in their attitude toward him. He has always been a good goalscorer (he proved it again after moving back to Spain), but he was not only under enormous personal stress that season due to the kidnapping, but he also was still trying to recover from a serious knee injury and was not yet back at top fitness. He was never going to be a player like Shevchenko, but had circumstances been different he might have become a valuable player in the Milan squad. It was certainly a reasonable gamble for Milan to make considering the club's circumstances in the could of uncertainty over the calcio scandal. I'm happy he's been a success since returning to Spain.

No, it's not a big deal. But it's a good signing. And don't be fooled into thinking Gooch is like Senderos. If you think they are the same, then you've either not seen much of Gooch or you're not very perceptive. Gooch is very athletic. Senderos can barely walk without tripping over his own feet. They are not the same. You never would have heard me say that about Senderos because I always saw him for the clumsy player he is. But you'll hear me saying it about Gooch because I have long seen his potential.

Rick I agree with you about Gooch 100%.
If you look back a few pages, I said that he is an upgrade from Kala, Bonera and Senderous. And he should do well in Series A b/c the league itself lacks small and speedy strikers.

But my point has always been, this is a signing that us fans should not be over the hill with joy about as it is really a normal signing. A pure squad player.
OFcourse if he turns out to be a superstar, my repsect toward Galli and company. But as of now, he is really someone that add squad depth.

Well, to me, i really think Torres is the best Sheva replacements in 2006.
As he is just as fast like Sheva and a good finisher. And if Milan actually signed Torres then, he would have been much cheaper than RO+R99+Pato.

Anyhow, thats the past.

I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could be disappointed by this. I think its a great move. I keep reading how people think it's a stupid move, and we gain nothing. It's insane. We get a big, athletic center back who may or may not be good enough as a starter. If he is, great! If not, then he's a backup. Why are you angry?

Ah, well of course nobody is jumping for joy, but there is always room for players who can fit into the team and bring a different dimension -- especially those who will play their hearts out, always be in top fitness and bring some size, strength and athleticism. As I said, he's unlikely to move right into the starting lineup, but he has great potential and he will have the best mentors any defender could possibly have. And the price was right! :v103:

It would have been great to get Torres, of course, but no player of his stature was going to move to Milan in that summer because Milan's fate in the scandal (unfair as the connection was) was still to be decided. But as you say, that's the past. I love having Pato. :5schal:

Haha. Well, considering that he's a Bosman and no longer under contract with the Belgian club, that might prove a bit tricky. :D

Besides, if Milan was foolish enough to cast him off now, he'd just get snatched up by Real Madrid (don't laugh -- he was supposedly their second option if they couldn't sign Arbeloa from Liverpool and Perez had that largely untapped U.S. market in mind). ;)

No, there are things that disappoint me. Kaka leaving. The Cissokho saga. Throwing away the chance to keep up with Inter by not beating Juve.

I'm not defeatist and I don't care for self pity. It gets us nowhere and feeds on itself and ultimately self fulfills into reality. We have to be positive.

Here's some good news: It seems in Dzeko's new contract there's a 20mil euro release clause specifically for Milan. If he keeps up his form, he's a Milan player next year for 20 million. Good deal. This means that we probably won't buy a gangbusters forward this year and will live with Pato, Pippo Borriello and maybe one more backup.

It also seems likely that we've secured Marchetti for next season as well. Leo is taking a long view. That makes me happy.

Edit: Nesta, Thiago Silva, Kaladze, Bonera, Gooch and even Favalli and Albertazzi. What more do you want? We can't buy Mexes or Zapata, and bench them, or bench Nesta. Thiago Silva is a starter. Nesta is a starter. If Nesta breaks down, we can buy someone in January.

Great post! I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't need instant gratification.

I saw that about Dzeko and was thinking that's great. It might be the reason Milan was hoping to take Huntelaar on loan rather than buy him outright. If Milan gets either Huntelaaar or Fabiano this year and Dzeko next year, I'd be thrilled. But I don't think it would be terrible to wait until next summer for Dzeko. We still really don't know what Borriello can do since he hardly had a chance to play last year (although I read somewhere that Napoli was hoping to take him home on loan). And there may be other short-term (loan) options if Leonardo isn't comfortable with the strikers currently on the squad. Who knows? Maybe one of the young guys will be a big surprise.

I just posted this in the Onyewu thread, but since there is a big discussion about him here as well I'll paste it here too.

"I don't know what to say. I guess no Santacroce now!

As for Onyewu, I've only seen him play for the USA and never for Standard. Judging from what I've seen (I've seen plenty of US games with him), my opinion is that he won't be anything but a back up player. He is strong and tall and brilliant with the head. He will certainly help on crosses coming in our box and long balls. Very rarely does he lose a ball in the air that he goes for. However, his positioning isn't anywhere near what it should be and that is the part of his game that HAS to get better if he is to play for this club.

Like I said I've only seen him play for his country and that can many times be very different to performances in club week in week out. I don't think he is better then Bonera overall. He is better in the air and his size definitely gives him an advantage over many players, but when it comes to positioning and other aspects of defending he is not better then Bonera IMO. Maybe he can prove me wrong but at this point I see no chance whatsoever that this guy will come in and start. At best, he can be the Senderos of this year. I am not too positive about this.

Because he is our player now, I am going to say Good luck Onyewu and I hope that you prove me wrong. At 0$ he is a bargain. But I can't deny the fact that my biggest wish for this summer (Santacroce) is now dead. It's been a long time since a CB has impressed me as much as Fabiano has this past year. But o well.....I guess there is always next year.....unless Juventus goes and signs him now and then I'll be fuming!"

We're mad because whether he's good or not: 1)he's not what we need atm which is any one of a lb, st, or a probable MALDINI (cb) replacement 2)quality wise, we have enough "cover" in the players we already have 3)seems to be ANOTHER marketing ploy again just like ronaldinho and beckham....don't tell me a scout's report about him just got faxed in at age 27 :stupid: Him being here is one thing if he's not good enough. But if he isn't milan material but somehow keeps making the starting xi then we'll be sure it's for espn and fox to do more player profiles ;) if all goes according to plan, berlu could end up looking the hero who was the "first owner of a big club to take a chance on this fantastic American talent". Next we'll hear about the 'American Maldini' etc :yuck: 4)Whatever the yanks think it makes us more of a joke in europe. Not because of his nationality but because in the middle of an epic failed mercato we proudly display a Newcastle utd reject. Imagine the effect on players who were thinking about coming here! 5)again we get a slow player :wallbang: it's not only the bigger slower attackers we face what about balo and zarate and miccoli etc?

NO worries, we have T. Silva.

To be honest, someone posted about our current CBs.

Nesta and T. Silva are sure starters.
Favalli is Favalli, can't really expect too much from him but he will be solid here and there.
Kala and Bonera are huge questions mark.
Same goes with Alberterzzi and Darmian.

Gooch does not solve any problem and by means is he the AMerican Maldini. But he does give Milan a strong CB that its lacks since Stam.

Don't worry too much as he is JUST A SQUAD PLAYER. Think of it this way, he came in to take over Senderous spot.

Those tickets were probably Corp. tickets as they have business tides with Berlu's company. I am pretty sure of it, as I really don't see fans buying season tickets for the coming season, as TWO ICONS were lost from Milan.

Galliani is full of sh*t. His numbers make no sense. He said they sold 6000 tickets, while the man in charge of ticket sales said they sold 10000. These idiots can't even keep up with the same lie in their own organization. Galliani also said that they sold 8000 tickets this time last year, while reports were that they actually sold 12000. So Galliani is either lying about now or last year or maybe both.

Regardless of Thiago Silva and Onyewu, is Galliani going to buy a top CB? Doesn't think so.

Is the Cissoko deal over? The press is pretty sure it is but some at MM are saying it might go through.

Manure are really impressive this mercato. The CRonaldo transfer (like Kaka's) was inevitable and they're going out and buying good young players to replace him and the outgoing crop of oldies. Frustrating at this club.

In other news, medical confirms Onyewu not a "bro".

I think he was referring to the German League, because with the new rules in place, we could potentially lose a CL place to them in a year or two if Italian teams fail to perform in the CL these coming two seasons.

As for Serie A not having short speedy players, I respectfully disagree. Miccoli, Zapata are not all that tall, and with a lot of speed. I think the bigger test would be to match him against Giovinco. That would surely prove how much he's worth. That said, I am so not looking forward to Milan v Juve this season...

Rick, was this your idea of patience brings in the surprise signing? Because I sure as hell am surprised, but not in a good way.

But they found him. You don't always replace a great player with another player who is just as good or better right away. It's better to wait and find the right player.

I think a lot of this depends on your definition of replacement. To me, a club of Milan's caliber should replace a dynamic goal scorer like Shevchenko with someone who can contribute at similar levels. In that regard, one can argue that milan still haven't found a replacement for Shevchenko yet as we still do not have a forward we can relay on for goals. Pato is a great player, but replacing Shevchenko with him did indeed significantly decrease our attacking power.

I think our downhill spiral began with our inability to find a viable Shevchenko replacement after he left in '06. They were either busts (Gila) or a waste to begin with (Oliveira).

Hmm...Gila came in 2005.

Pato was our replacement for Sheva; Oliveira was bought during the infamous Calciopli summer. The management doesn't deserve much credit in recent years, but Pato was a great purchase.

Andre Santos is our reason for being in Brazil (milannews).

Morabito: If Milan want Huntelaar they have to pay Valdano's price. They could wait till August for a reduced price, but by then he may be gone.

Milan can't wait as german side VfB Stuttgart plans to sign him, in order to replace Gomez. And remember, Bayern paid 35 Mio € for Gomez!

It looks like we try to build a strong squad ... for the Primavera !!

Is it our new way to build the team ??
We already bought 3 players for the Primavera, 3 promising players ... so maybe they want to build a strong Primavera by taking players from other clubs for now (by waiting players from our own youth teams), and it's a way to prepare them to be in our first team in some years ??

I'd rather have Cissohko, I just read Porto rejected a bid from Lyon for 10 mil.

Re: Santos

Corinthians have Real flu atm and are asking for 20 million euros :nana:. But a South American transfer expert thinks a deal could be in place for 6 million euros.

If we sign him, then we will certainly give up on Cissokho. He will also take up the non-eu spot and our striker options would be limited.

Juve just signed Felipe Melo for 20 million euros plus Marchionne (2-3 million euro).

Along the same lines, Bayern paid 30 million euros for Mario Gomez.

We would have never paid that much money for these players.

They have bought Diego and yet Melo (if news can be trusted). They haven't got any big money for players they have sold. They were in Serie B 3 years ago, had no CL two years ago and still can buy 'expensive' players?

What happened actually with Milan?

Yea definetly, they've probably had the best Mercato so far in Italy. I don't expect much else to happen there though.

I'm actually glad that Melo went to Juventus and not Arsenal. I think it's good for Serie A that he stays, since it's very important that the Italian teams do good in europe this season.

Also about our economy, as far as I know it's as good as they come. The only reason why we sold Kaka and haven't spend like Juventus is that our club is the only one of the top clubs who has decided that we're not gonna run on debt.

But nevertheless, I think Milan should, TODAY, start looking for replacements of Pippo, Pirlo, Nesta, Zambrotta, Ronaldinho, Seedorf, Kaladze.....

Wait, did I just put down half of the first team? :)

milan milan milan, where thou art milan.

i believe milan are gamblers, and we gambled 500 million dollars that Italy will win the confed cup, but they didnt make the second wound, so we lost all of that cash, and now we are stuck with only doing free transfers, so if you want to know who milan will sign next, go look up the best available striker that is free, or a team will loan to us.

I think Oneywu isnt the best player we could have gotten, but he was free, so if he fails, then it doesnt matter, we didnt spend for him, and we are to play LA Galaxy soon, so i see us selling some Oneywu shirts in America. (to play our 500 mill debt). If Santacroce is really for 6 mill, i would offer 7 mill, to make sure they must accept, and sign him, then we can look abou the sale of Kaladze. Nesta though he claimed he is healthy, i dont think we should force him into playing all games even if he is available, and a duo of Santacroe and Silva would not be bad, with Oneywo and Bonera even available at other time, and Bonera is very verstile, he is able to play both wing back positions and in central defense and Flamini can play rb, as well as Zambro on both sides, Favalli and Janku on the left in case of emergencies, so i think our defense will be adequate if we buy a defender or not. And say the unthinakable happens and all available CB are injured, then im sure that Ambro ad Gattuso can hold their own in playing CB's.

I believe also we need a goalkeeper. I am not an abbiati fan, and i would prefer him leaving, but if he stays, i would not cause any major concerns for me, i prefer Boruc.

As far as other players go, i would like Hamsik, but i dont believe he is necessary, nor any other midfielder. I prefer us getting rid of Seedorf first before we buy anyone. If Inter are willing to give Quaresma away for free, then im in, though i am not a big fan of his, he is free, and Milan likes free. i think Di Gennaro and Abate will do just fine, and we dont need to be in a rush to sign any one in the mid, unless Pirlo goes, then i would recommend Montolivio. but i think seedorf should be sold. he is now a liability.

Quick Start

Born in Washington D.C., Onyewu’s parents were natives of Nigeria and had moved to the states not long before his birth. Growing up playing soccer, Onyewu attended Sherwood High School and played for two years, before joining the U.S. residency program in Florida.

After graduating from the program and Sherwood, Onyewu enrolled at Clemson where he played two seasons. That was all the domestic soccer he’d experience as before his junior year began he signed with FC Metz of France’s Ligue 1.

Standard Procedure

Only making three appearances for Metz during his three seasons as a player at the club, two of them loaned out to La Louviere and Standard Liege, a move away was imminent. It was Standard Liege, the second club who had been on loan with, who sought a permanent deal for then 22-year-old defender.

Signing officially with Liege in 2004, Onyewu was an instant hit in Belgium, and after his first season with his new team, was named to the Jupiler League’s best XI for 2005.

Onyewu experienced four more seasons in Belgium, netting an impressive 179 appearances for Standard in the process. During that time, they won two Jupiler League titles, a Belgian Supercup and were runners up in the Belgian Cup.

In an effort to stick with a bigger club, Onyewu spent the second half of the 2007 season on-loan at Newcastle, but wasn’t able to hold down a first-team place and returned to Standard later that year.

Speculation grew towards the end of last season that Onyewu was ready to move on after five years of devoted service with Les Rouches. His hesitation to renew his contract were the main reason for the rumors.

Those rumors became founded as the summer hit and no contract was decided upon. A whole host of clubs had been interested in acquiring his signature before the transfer window opened, with newly promoted Wolverhampton and Birmingham of the English Premier League said to be high on the list. Other clubs included Marsielle, PSG, Borussia M’Gladbach and Fulham.

Rising On The World Stage

In this summer’s Confederations Cup, Onyewu significantly raised his stock when he put in a host of dazzling performances for the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Pitted against some of the world’s best strikers, Onyewu held his own and was an integral part of the team’s dramatic run to the final.

Particularly in their match against Spain, it was the defense that kept the game the way it was, with Onyewu’s unwavering determination to command his area deeming too much for the likes of David Villa and Fernando Torres who couldn’t crack the U.S. back four.

His play in that match, and in the final against Brazil, with everyone watching, greatly increased his stock and brought his name to the lips of some of the bigger club teams in the world. Following the tournament he was rumored to sign with Real Madrid, but when it was all said and done, it was AC Milan who won the race to his signature.

Les Rouches for Rossoneri

In what is undoubtedly the biggest move of his career, AC Milan signed Onyewu on a free transfer on July 7th, 2009. With the retirement of Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta’s uncertain health and the return of Philippe Senderos to Arsenal, there was an obvious void in Milan’s back four.

Onyewu should fill it nicely.

It remains to be seen if Milan bring anymore bodies to bulk up their defense, but for now, Onyewu is a signing that should excite Rossoneri fans everywhere. With the signing, he becomes only the second American player in the modern era to sign with a Serie A team, following USMNT great Alexi Lalas, who spent a year with Padova.

"He keeps it simple,” said Lalas of the towering Onyewu. “He won’t be asked to do things he’s not comfortable with doing. When you have a Pirlo or someone like that, it’s simple: get the ball to the guys that create. "

Strength Is His Strength

Onyewu has always been known to possess incredible strength in his vigorously maintained 6’4” body. He has the ability to hold off forwards and is excellent in the air.

In essence, they are two of the most valuable traits for a central defender to have: ability in the air and power. It doesn’t stop there for Onyewu, however. His tackling skills are first rate and he plays with confidence.

His experience in Europe will also benefit him at Milan as he has taken part in continental competitions and could be considered a cultured defender, having tasted life in England, France and Standard’s Belgium.

No Need To Panic

One of the few things that Onyewu has been knocked for in his playing career has been his sometimes hasty movement of the ball when under pressure. Some argue that it cost him a permanent deal at Newcastle as the pairing of him and Titus Bramble turned out to be a complete mess with neither player performing particularly well.

It has also been said that his lack of pace could be an issue, particular in a fast-paced team like Milan. Thankfully, his lanky frame seems to make up for the speed problem and he is able to reach balls with mysterious quickness.

AC Milan officially signed Oguchi Onyewu on Tuesday and Standard Liege vice-president Luciano D'Onofrio believes that the Serie A side have made an excellent acquisition.

"I think Milan have made a purchase of exceptional value with Onyewu, he is a player that can be a good alternative in [Milan coach] Leonardo's team," he said, according to Goal.com Italia.

"They had already contacted us some time ago, then I met [vice-president Adriano] Galliani last night and we resumed our discussions."

Interestingly, D'Onofrio revealed that the Rossoneri's city rivals, Inter, had also expressed interest in the United States international.

"For the player, who had an expiring contract, we were approached by many teams, among them Inter. The other teams were Birmingham and [Borussia] Monchengladbach."

All from PSG, and we have been linked wiht Hoarau in the past. Sakho is being monitored by Arsenal. Shouldn't be too hard to acquire either. 30 million euro should snap up both.....

Actually, its a perfect reason for MGT to offer an even lower bid for Dzeko!

Considering how we handled the Cissoko saga, Arnautovic won't be arriving. He has an injury cloud as well, and you know what MGT. does when that happens! Offer a loan or half of his asking pirce!

Lyon just got a 10 million bid for Cissoko knocked down. Why can't Milan offer 12 million plus Janko. It would work, if the saga is all about cash. if we bought mexes/zapata/santa there would be no chance for thiago starting our matches,if nesta was okay of course..

That's your opinion. From what i've seen of TS, I think he's better than those three. Santa is overrated, Zapata is injury prone and Mexes is too expensive and inconsistent. Just because a player is cheap doesn't mean he's terrible. Man Utd bought Vidic for 6 million pounds. Thiago Silva will impress everyone. Your lack of faith is very damaging and in some ways insulting.

I wonder if you really would be happy had we bought Mexes instead of Thiago; you'd probably say the same things about him if he doesn't play well for a while.

All I am saying is that there is as much chance for Nesta being fit as it will rain tomorrow.....

once a injury becomes chronic, it will remain forever. That is why it was clever to sell Kaka, as he only contributed in three quaters of the games in Serie A at the most!

We need someone similar to Nesta, who we can actually afford! Oddo and Janko are excellent bargaining chips to be used if Galliani can't scupper the last three million or so Euro. Even Seedorf should be considered.....

Why are you so agressive? People are doubting Thiago Silva, because we have hardly seen anything of him. The last time he played in Europe, it was ultimate failiure. Such facts should understandibly put doubt into some peoples' minds. This is in no way however of writing Silva off. Mexes has been on the European stage for years, and has played plenty in the UEFA Champions league. Therefore, he is garuanteed as a worthy replacement....

Roma Set Sights On Sampdoria Defender Stefano Lucchini – Report
The Giallorossi are in need of some depth in the centre of defence...
8 Jul 2009 00:45:08

As expected, Roma offloaded their inconsistent defender Simone Loria to Torino just a couple of weeks ago. Thus, the club are now in search of a replacement at the back.

Loria was in the Roman squad to act as an immediate alternative to Juan and Philippe Mexes, if injury or suspension were to strike either of them.

With the former Siena man now gone, the Giallorossi desperately need to acquire at least one more defender, and according to the latest reports from Romagiallorossa.com, they may have found their man.

Stefano Lucchini of Sampdoria is being touted as a potential addition to the squad, and following a number of impressive displays last term, he could prove to be the perfect inclusion for the capital club.

The reports go on to suggest that Luciano Spalletti wants four central defenders in his squad, so expect he and the club to strongly pursue their interest in Lucchini.

Adrian Del Monte, Goal.com

Hijack the deal now Milan if you have any guts! Atleast this player has experience in Serie A. If Nesta is gone, we can't afford to have two CBs who are still learning the league as they go. It's too risky. most likely, one of them will fail, and we will have to play Favalli or the injured/inconsistent Kaladze.

Not writing Bonera off though. Would like him to take the next step this season. :pp20:

This is my "heirachy" as you might like to say, for the current CBs we have:
First two are starters

1. Nesta (If fit!!!!!!)
2. T.Silva (for the season opener atleast. Needs to get off to a rolling start)
3. Favalli (For some reason, he is highly repsected by the players and Milan coaches for his fine "defensive" skills!?)
4. Kaladze (Galliani loves him, because he allows Uncle Fester to be cheap when it comes to patching up our worst area)
5. Bonera (Should be higher, but with so little apperances in the past two seasons, he remains in this lowly spot)
6. Onyewu (Of course there are question marks, and no one from Milan has come out to say anything official about him, let alone praise him...)
7.Albertazzi (Yet to cut his teeth in Serie A. if this was Carlo, he would never get a go. However, leo might have a different attitude, and if he impresses in friendlies, he may get the nod...)
8. Flamini (He has played there before at Arsenal, and is great at RB. Better than some of our current CBs, trust me, but prefers to play in the midfield. Atleast he is an option.)

Trust me, this guy is good! ALready has international experience:

AC Milan target Gareth Bale
Jul 8 2009 by Paul Abbandonato, Western Mail
Add a commentRecommend WELSH teen star Gareth Bale is wanted by AC Milan, according to reports in the Italian newspapers.

The Italian giants have targeted Bale after their bid to sign FC Porto left back Aly Cissokho collapsed after he failed a medical.

AC’s new boss Leonardo, the 1994 Brazilian World Cup winner, is said to be keen on landing Bale and trying to turn him into the new Paolo Maldini.

Milan’s city rivals Internazionale, who are managed by Jose Mourinho, are also monitoring Bale’s progress.

Mourinho (pictured right) is a known admirer of the Tottenham defender, picking him last season in a Premier League dream team.

“Bale could be indispensable for any team and could prove to be a better player than Ashley Cole,” said Mourinho.

The public words of the former Chelsea boss seem to have alerted Inter’s big foes AC Milan to Bale’s qualities.

Milan are seeking a new left-back to replace the ageing Marek Jankulovski, who has stepped into the boots of Maldini in the past couple of years.

The Corriere Dello Sports newspaper reports that Milan are lining up a £9m bid for Welsh star Bale.

It goes on to state that Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and the club’s transfer special advisor Ariedo Braida are confident of putting together a package to secure Bale’s signature.

His acquisition, states the newspaper, would follow in Milan’s recent trend of not signing out-and-out superstars, but players they believe they can mould into that category.

Bale’s future at Spurs remains up in the air after Harry Redknapp’s refusal to play him in his team on a regular basis.

Bale was the most wanted teenager in British football when Martin Jol snapped him up from Southampton for £10m, fighting off intense competition from Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

But Bale’s first season in the top flight was hindered by injury and he has yet to become a first-choice member of Redknapp’s starting XI.

There has been speculation linking Bale with a move to Liverpool and, more recently, a season’s loan spell with Premier League newcomers Birmingham.

But Milan’s reported interest underlines the stature and esteem with which Bale is held after some terrific performances on the world stage for Wales, even though Redknapp doesn’t yet appear to regard him quite so highly.

Milan are stepping up their bid for a left-back after the £12m move for Cissokho collapsed when he failed his medical because of a spinal problem.

Cissokho declared he had passed a second medical he undertook and that he had subsequently signed a pre-contract agreement.

But Milan tried to renegotiate the bid on a loan basis due to their concerns over Cissokho’s fitness.

After the parties involved failed to reach agreement, Galliani announced the move was off and the club would look elsewhere for a new defender.

Bale is currently recovering from knee surgery after injuring himself in between Wales’ recent matches against Estonia and Azerbaijan.

He missed the 1-0 World Cup win in Baku, but expects to be back in John Toshack’s team for the September showdown with Russia at the Millennium Stadium

I just watched a video of our preseason training. FLares are everywhere, due to rioting Milan fans...

Abbiatti is back and also luca Antonini. Wasn't Luca sold to Parma?

Galliani also mentioned that the team looks to sign young player, with an eye on the budget.....

Report: VfB Stuttgart In Negotiations With Real Madrid For Huntelaar

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
VfB Stuttgart look set to beat off competition from the likes of Milan and Manchester United for the signature of Real Madrid striker, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

According to AS, several of Die Roten’s representatives conducted a meeting with Jorge Valdano at the Santiago Bernabeu yesterday and it is believed that they are ready to offer Los Blancos €18 million plus a further €2 million based on performances.

It is so far the closest offer to the €20m asking price set by Madrid, but although the ‘White House’ would be tempted to accept the bid, they still have to persuade Huntelaar, who is currently earning €3.8m gross per year in a contract that runs until 2013, to agree to a move to the Bundesliga.

Stuttgart are not afraid to splash out on the Dutch striker having recently pocketed €30m from the sale of Mario Gomez to Bayern Munich, but likewise, they too have to convince ‘El Cazador’ and his agent that a transfer to the Mercedes-Benz Arena is the best option for him.

Since joining Madrid from Ajax in January 2008, Huntelaar has only played 1,123 minutes of football, although he has eight goals to his name.

KS Leong, Goal.com

Stuttgart pocketed less than half of what we received form sales, and you are telling me they are going to beat us to a signing?! this is ridiculous. Did we really use up all of Kaka's transfer fee to balance the books? How did we get into such a bad financial position, if we are beaten to our targets by clubs such as Stuttgart?

It was Luca Antonelli that was sold to Parma. A LB that was already on loan/co-ownership (not sure which one) with them anyway.

By the way....did you watch the the pre-season video online?? I've been looking for a video of pre-season trainings but I can't find any!

Milan's Ariedo Braida In Brazil For Pato's Wedding... And Luis Fabiano
The Diavolo's transfer guru will take advantage of his presence in Brazil to try and seal the deal for the Sevilla forward.
8 Jul 2009 07:37:49

According to tuttomercatoweb.it, Milan general director Ariedo Braida will be representing the club at Alexandre Pato's wedding with Stefany Brito, which will be held at Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro.

However, Braida's main duty on his Brazilian trip will be to convince Sevilla's star striker, Luis Fabiano, to join the Rossoneri this summer.

It is being reported that Braida will have enough time to meet the player in Sao Paolo and reach an agreement with him for his move to Milan.

Fabiano is eager to play for the Rossoneri, but his current club are asking too much when it comes to the transfer fee.

However, the Brazilian player's desire to move could force Sevilla to lower their asking price and thus make it easier for all parties involved.

Braida will also be after other transfer objectives in Brazil, as he will evaluate full-backs Maldonado and Andre Santos, and midfielder Hernanes, who is tipped to replace Andrea Pirlo.

Jose Altafini: Milan Still Need A Striker
The football legend agrees with the Rossoneri fans: the team is still in need of a world-class attacker.
8 Jul 2009 07:30:55

Former Milan player and current Sky commentator Jose Altafini gave his opinion about the Rossoneri during the presentation of his new book, Futebol e Alegria.

According to Altafini, Milan are already good enough as they are, but they would be more competitive with the purchase of a new striker and the recovery of defender Alessandro Nesta.

"Leonardo is a good coach, he will do well," declared the South American to tuttomercatoweb.it.

"Despite the sale of Kaka, Milan can be competitive, but they need a great striker and the recovery of Nesta in defence.

"With regards to the Brazilians, for Ronaldinho this is the last chance: it's the year leading to the World Cup, he must return to be decisive if he wants to go to South Africa.

"Thiago Silva is very good, but he needs to prove this in a difficult league. Even for him it will be an important test."

Wishful thinking from Milan's part about lowering the price of the players if the other club is playing hardball.

IF I am Seville, I will hold on to Luis as at least 2 teams(ManU, and ManC ) are willing to spend close to 30mil on a striker. And when you look at who is available in the market, there are really only a handful of good reliable strikers. Esp if Hunter is really signing with Stuggart.

Hey Gabriel, how are you going? :pp20:

Yes, it would be embarrasing to lose Hunter to Stuttgart out of all clubs. Sure, they received 30 million for the sale of Gomez, but we received over 70 million from our sales! How much really went into balalcing the books? Was our club really in such a dire financial state? We have barely spent a morsel of that money on transfers, which is quite sad.
I feel Berlu might be taking some cash for himself, as he believes that the club owes him something! Might be crazy to think, but our spending goes no where near matching the resources we now have....

Roma sporting director Daniele Prade unveiled the club’s season ticket campaign for 2009-10 yesterday and subtly hinted that either Mirko Vucinic or Philippe Mexes will leave the club.

Roma are in dire economic straits, and with takeover talks still dragging on, they might have to sacrifice one of their top stars to make ends meet.

“Will someone leave? I can’t promise anything on this, because the transfer market sometimes presents unexpected situations,” Prade is quoted as saying on Romanews.eu.

“De Rossi? It’s obvious that he is staying put.”

The same could be clearly said about the other two Roman musketeers, Francesco Totti and Alberto Aquilani, so all indications point to the Montenegrin striker and the French centre-back.

Mexes insisted earlier this week that he was keen to remain in the Eternal City, but Milan’s interest in him is still strong. Meanwhile, Vucinic was linked with a move to English champions Manchester United last month.

Not bad mate, how are you?

Well the thing is that I don't blame Berlu if he really end up pocketing all those 65mil as it is his team and he really can do whatever he wants with it.
I do blame him for telling the fans, lies after lies after lies after lies though. As I think Milan fans deserve more than that, not just success on the field but honestly from its owners. If Berlu actually comes out and say that Milan sold Kaka b/c Milan cannot finance itself while adding quality players to the team, or I understand that Milan lacks quality players esp after the sell of Kaka, and it will take a few years for us to rebuild(buying and developing quality young players) and challenge on all fonts, I really hope the fans can be patient with us...
If Berlu said that, I for one will not say much and even if Milan ended up in 12 spot next season, as long as they really started to play the kids and phase out guys like Seedorf, Kala, Bonera, Pirlo, Janku,Zambro and others. I will be happy.

What bothers me and I am sure the ultras is the fact that either Berlu is stupid, or he thinks we are all stupid by saying Milan are full of champions, the squad is more talented than Inter....or Real is screwing up the market(I really don't see Berlu complains about the price Real payed for Kaka).
Those are lies and thats not something the MGT should say, as everyone in this world will treat it as a joke.
Also if Berlu do not want to admit that Milan lacks quality, he could just shut up and smile to camera then walk away instead of opening his mouth about this and that.

When I first read that on Channel4, the first thought that went through my mind was the Beast is coming to Milan.

Relatively young, Brazilian and can play in multiple positions.

First Milan sign the American Tank, then the Brazilian Beast, and last, the Italian Tower(TONI).

We will then rule the transfer market.

Perhaps Sakho for a new CB? And Guillaume Hoarau for a new CF.

All from PSG, and we have been linked wiht Hoarau in the past. Sakho is being monitored by Arsenal. Shouldn't be too hard to acquire either. 30 million euro should snap up both.....

It is funny you mentioned that, as awhile ago, I read that Wenger was asked how he could always pick out youngsters.....Wenger answered was, his coaches and scouts are great...and then he said that Football Manager also helped him a great deal, as he is a fan of the game, and thats how he spots talents and send his scouts to watch their matches.....

I was shock to read that, but then my mates told me Wenger does play FM while he is also great friends with a couple of the developers and thats why he said that as a semi-joke.

So true Gabriel. berlu treats us like we are idiots. Although I must say, if Berlu can't support Milan with the necessary finances to come in the top four, and instead finish twelfth and play kids, then it would be time for him to leave, and another willing investor to arrive.

Hey, I checked Fifa 09 on my PSP yesterday, and our new American signing is rated 74. That is ok but obviously not first team material. Trust me, the game does do a good analysis, and football manager is even more insightful!

Arsenal did just acquire a new SOuth American CB, so we can now move for Sakho. 15 million at the MOST for him.....

I think most of us (if not all) have mentioned about the players they want. Personally I'd take players like Benzema, Tevez, or Eto'o any time the chance presents, but that's just not realistic considering our financial situation nowadays. Therefore I lower the level of expectation, I'll welcome Huntelaar, Dzeko, or Fabiano since their prices are less expensive. Even so, at least for now, none of them is coming to Milan. Do we have to lower the bar again?

In the defense, I'm impressed with Santacroce. And I was about to ask you people here about Bruno Alves of Porto. He seemed pretty solid IMO. It's reported that Barca (and Juve in the past) is interested in him.

But now with Onyewu's arrival, I think the chance of getting another CB is very slim

Juve have payed 25mln clause and Melo is their player creating midfield of Sissoko-Melo-Camoranesi-Diego ( marchisio, poulsen, giovinco etc. ).

Simply, they payed 25mln, it is it. Our question is does Milan really intend to waste more then 20-30mln this summer? Becouse Kaka money was promissed to be put in the squad as I remember? Am I wrong?

Galliani is a joke of the year. He gets KAka' money, hurrys up and pays 15mln for Cissokho ( who was asked by Leo ). Then he realises he just payed 15mln for unknown player ( probably Berlusconi complaining or saying Milan will not spend money this summer ), and Galliani lies about teeth. Player comes out and says its money issue, not dental. Has this embarrasment EVER happened??

Now when we buy Fabiano I should be all happy coz we payed for 28 year old striker who is not in top 20 forwards in the world. To be fair Millito is better then him and Huntelaar.

I want Milan that will be built with passion, that could have consisted of palyers like nKaka' and Gourcuff etc. But since we cant bring back time yet, this summer I want:

- Cissokho, Criscito or Maxwell
- Santacroce ( no.1 target )
- Hernanes
- Benzema ( gone ), now I'd take Huntelaar.

Glenn Debattista

It's not Fabiano that Braida needs to convince, it's his club Sevilla. Luis, just like Dzeko, had publicly stated that he wanted to play for us. But since he's under contract, we must pay for the transfer, and our offer was simply rejected. The player's own wish doesn't necessarily can lower the asking price nor make it easier for us, as proven by Dzeko's saga.

The last paragraph is more sensible to me. So let's keep our fingers crossed. If there's a thing that I like in Braida is that he doesn't open his mouth as often as Baldie

Santacroce or Zapata as CB
Cissohko or Vargas(as he is on sell)

Benzema(now that he costs 35M)+another ATM ideally Givinco

That's your opinion. From what i've seen of TS, I think he's better than those three. Santa is overrated, Zapata is injury prone and Mexes is too expensive and inconsistent. Just because a player is cheap doesn't mean he's terrible. Man Utd bought Vidic for 6 million pounds. Thiago Silva will impress everyone. Your lack of faith is very damaging and in some ways insulting.

I wonder if you really would be happy had we bought Mexes instead of Thiago; you'd probably say the same things about him if he doesn't play well for a while.

For what i ve seen of TS,he was a walking disaster he cant even be compered with the players i ve mentioned(i d prefer him rb),and i didnt say anything about the price..and obviously you dont know me at all as a poster, saying that i would say the same things about mexes too,i ve written millions of times he is my favourite one,and that his inconsistensy is mostly spalleti's fault and the way roma defends..

as for my lack of faith being damaging,i would say exactly the same thing about your blinding faith to everything too(just read your signature)..and i dont get how can that be insulting,i have never insulted anyone without any arguments in contrast to you..

ps as for the price, although i dont care that he was cheap, you know that the price is the estimated value,so when a player like mexes may cost 15-20mil,and TS cost 8 although he is 3 years younger(and not too young),it is non-sence to say that TS is better than mexes, santa and zapata by any means..

I dont know why everybody wants Mexes at Milan, all of us want a WC centerback, but Mexes isnt that. The guy is soooo inconsistent, just look at last year he made some horror shows with France NT and also with Roma. The guy is a good defender and a upgrade if you compare him with Bony and Kaladze, but is he really going to add that much? The answer is NO,i even prefer Onyewu(although he isnt better)above Mexes because Mexes isnt worth the money.

He isnt CL-material and also i have lost all my respect and faith in him after that second great goal of Pato against Roma in Olimpico,i have never seen a defender being humiliated like that in a while.Mexes isnt the guy for us,one day we will praise him,the other day we will bash him for his stupid Kaladze like goals......PS: TS is waaaaaay better then him.

I also cant believe that Juve have signed Melo almost,i mean they have now Diego AND Melo in midfield together with Sissoko and Giovinco,we cant match that, not even close,we are soooo weak compared to them, just look at their attack with Trez(maybe staying),Amauri,Del Piero and Iaquinta. We have to reinforce now because we are falling behind way too much its going to be a ugly season i think....

ACMILAN1983

Considering people are listing their realistic targets, I'd be happy with:

FB: Cissokho or Cristico or maybe De Silvestri
CB: Santacroce or Zapata or Bochetti
FW: Dzeko (I won't rule him out yet) or Huntelaar or last choice Fabiano

Truth is, I'm getting used to the idea that we're going to rely on Dinho next season so my hopes for a quality player to fill Kaka's void is not likely. The other areas are important though. A fullback must come as we've struggled for years in this area and I'm not sure we've got enough to follow through with Leo's new ideas on the wide areas. The forward is obvious and we will get one. A quality CB is a must too, as right now our personnel includes Nesta, Thiago, Bonera, Kaladze, Favalli, Onweyu and Albertazzi (who can also play LB). We've only got two CB's capable of playing at highest level and both are doubts, with Nesta's injury fears and Silva's unproven status. The rest are either able backups or simply mediocre. It's really no good having 7 CB's but with only 1-2 reliable ones, especially when the starters are big doubts. I've made no qualms about my desire to sell Kaladze to get one from my list, and I maintain this position.

I'll be happy with this as I see it as the bare minimum to be at least relatively competitive next season. That said, Galliani has again claimed that after Onyewu we're only after Luis Fabiano

Milan's Only Objective Is Luis Fabiano, No More Defenders - Galliani
Adriano Galliani, the Milan vice-president, has confirmed the Sevilla man as his only objective for the forward line as he rules out further defenders...
8 Jul 2009 10:49:13

Luis Fabiano
Galliani was in Milan for an informal Lega Calcio presidents meeting and he stopped to give an update on the club's transfer plans. He is no longer waving the big stick towards Porto's Aly Cissokho after sigining Oguchi Onyewu on Tuesday.

In addition, the big-wig has confirmed that only Sevilla's Fabiano is the name on top of the striker's agenda in Via Turati, signalling an end of interest in Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor who was, up until now, considered a possibility by the chief.

"Our market for defenders is now closed with the arrival of Onyewu. There will not be a Cissokho or any other defender." Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.

"Our only objective remains Luis Fabiano, but there is a difference between what we have offered and his asking price."

Another burning issue ringing in Galliani's ears has been the constant hype surrounding a reported exit for Andrea Pirlo. However, it appears as if the Italian will be staying.

"In terms of selling, there have not been any offers for Pirlo and thus we will stay as we are," concluded the chief.

Salvatore Landolina, Goal.com

Galliani is lying he says each year nobody will come but they will come, maybe Hernanes also who knows if Pirlo leaves, but Santos and maybe Fabiano will arive.

But still people if thats it,then the MGT have screwed us.....they sold Kaka and Gorky left, and they brought only a LB and CF.....Onyewu was free.....what a bad mercato!

Lets calm down. People can suggest who they want, and they atleast have the right to be listened to.

Oh please you dont believe that,we will for sure end up with A.Santos Braida will do his job in Brazil do you really think we will only get a free Onyewu and a striker?

Although you had an admirable set of calculations done for a Hernanes purchase, 40 million is too much. We need another defender and yes, maybe Mexes is too much of a demand for a stingy MGT.

But , Milan is cruel and a business as Galliani has stated before. YOu are right in saying that our technical director wasn't only in brazil for Pato's wedding.....

In my opinion they still should let go of Kaladze for a few millions and sign Lugano from Fenerbahce for free,he is a major upgrade of Kaladze, you earn a few bucks and you upgrade your defense for free,so simple!!!

Also i am going to watch the game of Corinthians-Fluminese tonight because reports are saying Braida will be there to watch Santon in action, and if he will be there the commentator always mentions that kind of things if he really is there,so im looking forward to it

There's six hours difference between the U.S. east coast and Rome; nine hours difference between Los Angeles and Rome. So the game against the Galaxy in Los Angeles should begin at 4 a.m. in Rome, the game against Club America in Atlanta should begin at 1 a.m. in Rome, the game against Chelsea in Baltimore should begin at 2 a.m. and the game against Inter in Boston should begin at 11 p.m.

If we don't get another defender, we are quite honestly screwed. Juve has done so well in transfers, that in Goal.com, they are debating whether, following the signing of one more CB, they will be favourites for the Scudetto!

AC Milan step up transfer talks for Brazilian pair
08.07.09 | tribalfootball.com
AC Milan are intensifying their signing spree (lol!)after clinching an agreement with Oguchi Onyewu.

The USA international signed for Milan yesterday on a Bosman from Standard Liege and La Stampa says the Rossoneri are now pursuing two other major targets - Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano and Corinthians defender Andre Santos.

Milan chief Ariedo Braida is in Brazil this week to see Andre Santos, rated at £6 million, in action against Fluminense. A representative of Andre Santos' management company is in Milan today for talks with Rossoneri officials.

Meanwhile, Milan are waiting for Sevilla to settle a dispute with Fabiano's management company over his registration. If the legal issues can be settled, Milan hope to do business for around £10 million (WTF!?).

Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed: "We'll deal only with Sevilla, they must give the ok to us for the price, the rest does not interest us."

Are you kidding me?Thats just a super team,a team with Diego,Melo and Giovinco in midfield is just world class.....

First i told you i dont believe Galliani, but now i read at Gazzetta his comments and he said we only will buy a striker because he have enough players,so i went to the roster and i counted the players.....guess what: we have 28 players!!!!!Thats way to much,so i really fear he may not lie because Milan isnt a club who releases or sells their crap players(they sell only the good ones...).So i dont see Milan getting any new players as we are so full...

Honestly, Galliani doesn't want to spend cash? Well include players like Seedorf, Janko and Oddo! As much as we despise them, many clubs convet players like them, and they would be great if Galliani doesn't fork out the last five or so million euro in the deal....

And, the size of the squad is inflated. You may argue that what happened last year was because we had a small squad, but it was Carlo who was unwilling to think much outside the box and play youngsters....
Would like to see Milan sell off Aussie Kalac, and snap up a young keeper. Dida will be impossbile to rid of, due to high wage demands!

Not according to old man Sacchi:

Sacchi Tells Milan Fans: Stop Moaning, Inter Are Stronger
The former coach has told fans to stop moaning and he believes Inter are stronger than Milan...
8 Jul 2009 13:20:12

Former Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi has told fans to show some respect towards club owner Silvio Berlusconi and vice-president Adriano Galliani, following the recent protests at Milanello.

On Monday, a number of Ultras protested against the club, asking questions about a transfer campaign which, until Tuesday with the signing of Oguchi Onyewu, had not yeilded any results. Sacchi, who enjoyed great success at the club during the late 1980s, has jumped to the defence of Berlusconi.

"The fans are furious and worried. They blame Berlusconi for a lack of generosity. How someone can do this after 20 years of domestic and international success is beyond me," Sacchi wrote in his Gazzetta Dello Sport column.

"Times have changed and it's right that clubs auto-finance themselves. Berlusconi is an optimist and I think Milan can have a good year. However, they need to work hard and find plenty of motivation.

"The squad is not as good as Inter's, but you cannot buy football, you construct it."

Earlier today, Adriano Galliani claimed Milan's market would be closed with the arrival of a striker.

it's in my nature not to talk much, but when you insist I'll explain why we need new management.berlusconi and galliani are old men.what do I mean by old? they are mentaly old, which means they don't understand how football goes today.they live in the past,on the ruins of old glory.when they arrived at milan, begun the new era in which we have won a lot of trophies and had world's greatest players.but now the time ran them over.they have forgotten that you need big names if u want to succed.today, football is a big business and the team with more great names is usually the winning one.not always, but usually.you can say that I talk rubbish but that's the truth.for a good team you need your homegrown plyers, and some stars.and that's the team with prospect.look at real madrid when they had zidane, figo, roberto carlos and other stars.they were the best team on the world, they weren't called for no reason galacticos.

It is time to concretise. Must have been this the idea in Adriano Galliani's mind. Today, during Italian League assembly, he spoke to the journalists: "Our only target is Luis Fabiano. Stop keep talking about Cissokho or others, because there are too many players in the team. Everything is closed, the only talk still pending is with the Brazilian striker, considered that Leonardo (New AC Milan Manager) prefers him to Huntelaar. The difference is some milion of Euros. There is still much to talk, with Seville have to reach a money agreement".

Andrè Santos and Luis Fabiano both? I was under the impression that Luis Fabiano did NOT have an EU passport.... In any case I think we will just be getting a forward, and I fear it will be done at the end of the mercato, since there is no way Sevilla will accept 14million for him, and we will only offer a few million more.

As for talking dirt about our management, I dont think it is because they are old or stuff like that.... or well, the alterneratives are the following, methinks; either Berlusconi simply doesnt care about Milan any more, or he is going a bit insane.
In either case, Milan is suffering because of it.

Some encouraging comments from Fabiano's agent today. He says Fabiano only wants a move to Milan, he's happy with Uncle Fester's comments about Fabiano being the only targeted striker now and he's confident that Milan and Sevilla will come to an agreement soon.

I'll be pretty happy if they can close out the Fabiano deal. He's an outstanding player and he wants to play for Milan. That means a lot to me. I've never heard anything from Huntelaar about wanting to play for Milan. If he leaves Madrid, it will be only the club's choice, it seems. But in Fabiano we have a guy who truly wants to wear the Milan jersey. It would be great to buy him this summer and then exercise Dzeko's "get-out-to-Milan-for-20-million-euros" clause next year.

Yeesh! Let's see if Sevilla want to sell him first. We've had all these players declaring their love for the shirt, yet either we've not made a bid for them, or their clubs don't have a pressing need to sell.

Seriously, just wait till you hear anything from the other team first. We couldn't match Huntelaar's price, we couldn't match Dzeko's price, what makes you think Fester is willing to pay the full fair for him at all? Players can be as confident as they want, and yet they can't do anything if their clubs don't want to sell. Remember, Fabiano doesn't turn 30 till the end of next year, if Fester is looking to use that as leverage to prise him away from Sevilla, then he'll have to wait at least another year first.

Remember, agents will say anything they want so long as they can use it to fill their own pockets. Money talks, and this case is no different.

Galliani has no clue what he is doing and Berlusconi is making Milan a club that feeds from the garbage of big clubs. Go on, support them to stay, so we'll loose Pato next summer as well.

If Leonardo wanted and ercognised Cissokho, I believe him 200% about this player. Also all the people from Portugal claim he'll be a great fullback.

"new, fast and young team"(Galliani)? Some people expect that Leonardo is half-god and he'll make Marek and Oddo cross, Pirlo to sprint, Seedorf and Dinho to move as 5 years ago etc. Boriello to become a great player...

NOTHING Berlusconi and Galliani promised was true. I truly hope Milan fans boycot San siro unless this mercato showes signs of an interest in Milan. Its not enuogh to talk about love but to show your love for Milan ( goes to Silvio, fininvest and that moron Piersilvio ).

We have too much players? Sell Favalli, Kaladze, Oddo, Seedorf. And invest in 4 new good palyers, then you'll have a normal number again.

brk
08-07-2009, 12:03
It's the 85th minute. We're winning 1-0. We can't seem to hold on to the ball, the opposition is running wild on the wings and every cross seems dangerous. Gooch replaces Pippo and we revert to a 5 man defence, with Zambro, Nesta, Gooch, Thiago and Janku. Every cross seems to magically find the American's head and we make it to the final whistle winning the game.

How many times have we thrown away games last year because of a barrage of crosses that weren't dealt with properly? Gooch would help, even if only in those desperate situations.

Edit:

We have too much players? Sell Favalli, Kaladze, Oddo, Seedorf. And invest in 4 new good palyers, then you'll have a normal number again.

Nobody would buy them even if free. They have expensive contracts. We can't let them go because they're tied to us. You can argue that we shouldn't have extended them in the first place, and I agree with you completely on that. Especially Dida. They were mistakes, and we can't do anything about them. Why extend Favalli if you're signing Gooch? But you can't simply demand that they sell players if they can't possibly do that. They tried offering Seedorf to Ajax (i'm expecting it was for free, actually, or something very low) and he declined. I don't think Seedorf will be a starter, but he's not going away. We have to live with the situation we're in and find ways to grow out of it and not repeat the same mistakes.

Dzeko and Marchetti next year, Aly, Gooch, Thiago Silva and Fabiano this year is a great start in my opinion. If we can somehow secure Hernanes next year to transition Pirlo out, that would be even better.

08-07-2009, 12:55
Maybe buying young players is a good (actually, the only workable) idea. After all, you can't do anything about those old and expensive players. They aren't going anywhere. Let's face it, they don't want to and they don't have to. You reap what you sow. Galliani was stupid for offering Dida the 4-year contract at 4M each year, while I am sure that Dida would accept, say, 3-year at 3M, or heck, maybe even 2-year at 2M, back then when he was OUT OF CONTRACT! Now what can you do? We will have wait for them to sit out their contracts, which is the reality.

So maybe we won't see much change at all this year. This sucks, but having an incompetent management like this, this is what's going to happen.

We lost all of our targets that we publicly stated. Its a disgrace. Sheva---> Oliveira and Kaka'----> Fabiano is a joke that whole football world can laugh at! Galliani has no clue what he is doing and Berlusconi is making Milan a club that feeds from the garbage of big clubs. Go on, support them to stay, so we'll loose Pato next summer as well.

actually, the way I looked at it (from hindsight of course), it was Gilardino who was Shevchenko's replacement and Ronaldinho who was Kaka's replacement. I felt that our management was probably tired of all the rumors and sagas, and possibly they knew/saw that they were leaving anyway after two years' heavy link with another team. so they took preemptive action and hoped for smooth transition, which was a safe idea in some sense but it was also de-moralizing and might have catalyzed such change.

and we were unlucky that Gilardino didn't work out and Ronaldinho hasn't shown a sign that he will, but I hope that I am wrong.

we have to be real and say that oncoming season will be tough for us,we will probably end on the 4th place,in champions league we'll pass the group stage and will lose in the first knockout game.maybe next season we'll do something in europe but we need new players.especially goalkeeper

I wouldn't be surprised if MGT offers Seedorf and some others an extension at the end of his current contract.
Remember, they're champions and also a Family..so people who are hoping for their release, don't get your hopes up just yet.

on a serious note: Milan hasn't shown interest in any of the current WC players which means they do not intend to spend money on new players.
Fabiano is good but nothing will be solved having him around.

Huh? Where, exactly, did I say it was a done deal or start jumping up and down with joy? I merely said the comments of Fabiano's agent were encouraging (especially when combined with the player's own previous statements) and noted my own personal reasons why I would prefer someone who wants to play for Milan over someone who is indifferent about the prospect. Huntelaar has an agent too. I haven't heard him declaring his client's desire to move to Milan, nor have I heard Huntelaar himself do that (as Fabiano has previously, just in case you missed it).

Think about it. Use your brain. What poster expends the most effort around here preaching patience to all you worry warts and doomsday prophets? And what poster is the most skeptical about crap that's written in the papers? (Me, in case you hadn't noticed.)

So you're barking up the wrong tree with this sudden epiphany that we should wait and see. But at least I'm glad you've finally figured that out as that's exactly what I've been trying to tell you and a few others about the entire transfer market. So welcome aboard! Now if I can just get you off the negativity train. :D

And what's all that mumbo jumbo about Galliani waiting until Fabiano is closer to 30? Has Galliani put Fabiano on double secret probation or something? :D

Oh, and just for the record, Fabiano must not have a very good agent then because he could get a lot more money playing Milan, Manchester United and a couple of other clubs one off the other than by simply declaring "this is where my client wants to go." ;)

I guess that it is still quite possible. We seemed ready to give out impulsive (and irrational) big-cash extension as long as the player did well for 3 or 4 weeks, which is sweet for the players, but disastrous and leads to bitter situation like now.

Galliani was so reliant on Berlusconi's money. I supported him as a Milan guy but I was never really a huge fan of his. I think Milan's success can largely be attributed to Berlu's money (ironically, just like RM's money power NOW), and our luck in having the right players, especially the loyal services of Baresi, Maldini and co. Galliani has done some nice work, so credits where due, but back then we almost monopolized the market (or duopolized the market with Juve). I wouldn't call him totally incompetent, but he wasn't exactly working in a highly competitive or adverse environment.

Galliani was limited to say the least. He was so used to big money splashed around, in wages or transfer fees. All of a sudden, he was told that he would be on his own as there would be no more cash from Berlu's pocket, and that he needed to slash the total wage bill of the CURRENT squad, his way of management became UNSUSTAINABLE, without a chance. :wallbang:

We are going through some painful transition. If we succeed now, the success in a rather long time to go would pretty much be guaranteed, as that would be SUSTAINABLE. So there is something to hope for.

I am just concerned that Galliani is NOT the right person to lead us. He is not up to the challenge. He doesn't have in him what it takes.:1whis:

This sucks, but having an incompetent management like this, this is what's going to happen.

actually, the way I looked at it (from hindsight of course), it was Gilardino who was Shevchenko's replacement and Ronaldinho who was Kaka's replacement.

IF you want to date Megan Fox, you better be prepared for all the staring she is going to get from other men. If you can't handle it, then go for Renee Zellwegger. If Milan, as an organization, cannot handle the fact that other teams could show interest in its players, then they deserve all the crappy players they have been getting from the mercato.

Great post Xudong,

I just want to say that this "self sustainable club" is nonsense and it is not possible if you want to be challenging for the major trophies year after year.
If you want to be in the "big league" then one must consider the fact that WC football club is something you always lose money to because if you rely only on youth system or bargain players, you'll end up being just plain mediocre.

Money goes away, it's just when you're billionaire you can afford it. Does our owner wants it or not, that's another debate.

Your arguement is flawed mate. I don't preach patience because I don't think we're actually going to get the player. I'm being skeptical that the deal will be completed, not anytime soon, just completed (period). After seeing Dzeko slip away because Fester doesn't want to match their asking price, I don't see how they'll make their approach any different with Fabiano. I preach nothing. I'm saying I don't see us getting this guy unless Fester changes his tactics, which he hasn't done in a million years. So saying, I don't see him in Milan unless Fester decides to "Panic Buy" him for a larger amount than he wants to shell out in the first place.

Players above 30 with a few years left on their contracts can opt out of their clubs for a few months salary, peanuts. You didn't know?!?:v46:

Thirdly, Manchester DON'T WANT HIM. They just signed Valencia, Owen and now Obertan. What use have they got for players above 26 years of age anyway? Seriously, Owen's gonna do nothing but warm the bench and coach Rooney or something like that.

Lastly, given the signals, it could actually mean that NO ONE but us are interested in Fabiano, which is why the agent is going through all this trouble to get the deal through. We're the best chance that he'll get a paycheck maybe? Or maybe it means we're the only club that rates him at all? I've not heard any other club make an official bid for this guy.

Why don't you grow a brainstem first and actually do some research whilst you're at it

For the record, I don't like either one. Call me strange, but what's the big deal about this Megan Fox lady? It seems that these days her name is everywhere, has she just become the symbol of "hotness"? :ilol:

Anyway, on the topic, I don't think B&G couldn't handle the heat, rather, I think they grew tired of all the flirtation back and forth and decided to cash in and cut the tie. That's all, we could have kept Kaka, I am sure, but B decided it would be too costly to keep him. I am not trying to pass my judgement here in who is in the right and who is in the wrong, as that's another issue, and you know my answer. :p

And you are absolute right in saying that a top-profile club like Milan is bound to draw much interest from outsiders. (maybe our opinions aren't that different after all.) Maldini was pursued by Chelsea and Real Madrid year after year, but never to a point that turned ugly or irritating. I guess that's why Maldini is Maldini while Kaka is only Kaka. Forza Maldini. :proud:

I wouldn't call it a total nonsense, more like an "ultimate dream." Juve at Moggi's era was closest to that paradigm. Selling Zidane while getting Thuram, Buffon and Nedved is something I would call sustainable development.

Again, I admit that it would be a dream, as you have to have the right person to execute all that. Sadly, we don't. Heck, maybe a clean Moggi wouldn't have pulled it off either. so we never know.

It just bums me that we are so tied to the personal mood of Berlusconi. Once he decides that he is no mood to play along, we suffer so bad. Even worse, that dirty bastard doesn't even want to sell. :de3: And what can we do?

And who would've saved our asses after Abs went down last season, Kalac or Perucchini?

Just for the sake of argument: Kalac might. He did do well two seasons ago until the Arsenal match. You never know maybe last season it was Dida who took away his chance? Also you forgot about one thing: had we not renewed Dida's contract, he wouldn't be here, which means that someone else would have been here, and that someone (of which the identity we would never know) might have come to save our asses. It would be even possible that that unidentified someone might have become our #1, and then when he was injured (possibly), Abbiati would be the one that stepped up and saved our asses. Gosh, that was fun. :ilol:

Anyway, my point is that I didn't mind his contract being renewed, as I think he could be useful like he proved, but at 4M for 4 years? that's too much. Just because he saved our asses last season, it is still not worth it.

Finally, is it really that necessary to jump to defense at any visible chance? I guess you are a bigger Dida fangirl than I think you are. :ilol:

Honestly, the only reason why Berlu is not putting money into Milan is not about whether he still has passion or not for the club, it's about his political career. He cannot have Milan spending millions when Italy's economy is in crisis. Berlu is weighing up the amount of fans for Milan and how many Italians have decided that their economic futures are more important than Berlu's billionaire playboy (should be playoldman, but it doesn't sound right) antics.

However, I understand why he would say that Milan is good as it is. For Berlu, this is not a statement for the fans, this is for his players. If you were a Milan player, and you didn't get public support from your owner, you'd feel angry, wouldn't you?

Put it in this way: If you had a job where your performance was of public interest, wouldn't you want your boss to give you public support? Morale has to be high with the players at Milan, and you get the sense that they know what they have to do, and Ambro has spoken of Milan's need to improve their performances.

I think Nesta is being bet on, heavily. It is a risk, but so are all sporting choices. Favalli was extended for his experience, Bonera I think is being trusted with a bigger role for this coming year. I feel for Bonera, I think he is a player who has not fulfilled his potential, but maybe he can be a late bloomer like Legro at Juve?

I think if you take a step back away from Milan, you just realize that our team is much better than you'd think. Our midfield is directed towards keeping stability, ensuring that possession stays in Milan's hands.

It seems that Leonardo will also be utilizing more attacking full backs, in fact, he will rely upon them. If that's the case, then Janku's defensive problems obviously aren't that big of a deal then, right? Sure, it'd be nice to have Maxwell, Cissoko, or Crisicto, but is Janku really that bad of an option?

Oddo is a good back-up for Zambro, and Zambro can play on either side, and who knows, maybe Luca Antonini will make a step up? I also cannot wait to see how Abate and Di Gennaro fit in Milan's squad. I also wonder about Viudez and Cardacio, perhaps Leonardo (who we all know is good at spotting talent, right?) has plans for them?

I think the most important thing is, this is Leonardo's first season, he is a young coach, and is in a far more difficult league than what Guardiola had to deal with and with a club with less resources (currently) available to its coach.

It seems obvious that Leonardo has taken a page out of Pep's book in requiring a higher work rate and this should be music to many's ears, and it seems that Milan will be a team that will work and fight for the ball, and clearly Leonardo has faith in the team and there is nothing better than players who are champions who feel they have something to prove.

Is Dinho a gamble? Yes. But, in all seriousness, without completely gutting the team and changing its entire style, which would make the transition even more painful and long, it seems Milan has no choice but to rely on Dinho. Again, our formation will look like this:

------------Abbiati
Zambro--Nesta--T. Silva--Janku
-Gattuso---Pirlo---Ambro/Flamini
-------------Dinho
-----Luis Fabiano---Pato

Not a major overhaul, because if you're honest, we don't have to have a massive overhaul. Our players, outside of Pato, are very highly regarded, and there is a difference between your average fan and people inside of football. If you ask those who really know their football, they know that Dinho is a gamble, but when you know what he can do, it's not a tough gamble to make.

I think the big signings really come next season, and it will be a gradual transition, because that's how players come in and out of Milan, to ensure stability and to put the club in the best place for success. Would you endure what Barca did prior to Ronaldinho (and really Davids) saving Barca? Sure, the last two years have been bad, but last year was more about injuries, and the players have said that, and if you don't trust them, then who do you trust?

We have always been doomed, we have always been a team of players who are too old, we don't have any invention, we have lost something that we should never have lost, and we have always bounced back. Just believe, if we have the positive energy, we can succeed, we can do well, but the first step is belief. This is not about being pessimistic or optimistic, this is about putting ourselves and our players in the best mindset possible.

lol he can't put money into milan because it is illegal for a prime minster to invest in business interests it is basically fraud if he started favouring his own business. What Berlusconi usually does is manipulates his children into bank rolling Milan in exchange they can get a bigger stake of their businesses and more influence over the Berlusconi empire in exchange for 50 million euros each season. It is pretty obvious that Berlusconi is much more interested in public office and young women Milan for him is a tool to get higher opinion ratings

Samaldinho
08-07-2009, 15:41
He could use some higher opinion ratings right now, and if Milan is part of this strategy, then he should be making sure that the team is popular. However, he obviously is not going to be able to get away with having his children put money into the team, because whatever he does, it seems that his opponents in government will be eager to use it to their political advantage.

I hope Berlu gets dumped out of his position, that way, he'd be able to focus on Milan and make sure we get the players that Milan deserve.

technically it is his money as Berlusconi created finvest and the various magazine companies who bank rolled milan his family have been employed in certain positions in his empire for various reasons. the parent company of milan finvest suffered from a serious drop in revenues the last financial year that probably is why Milan is selling in order to buy.

Palermo President Questions The Signing Of New Milan Defender Onyewu
'Gooch' was also apparently of interest to the Rosanero, according to their out-spoken patron...
8 Jul 2009 15:26:07

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed that his side were also on the trail of new Milan signing Oguchi Onyewu. The centre-back was signed by the Serie A giants from Standard Liege on Tuesday.

"Congratulations to Milan. We were close to the defender of the U.S. national team 15 days ago, but the Rossoneri were more clever than I am," he admitted to Il Corriere dello Sport.

"For Palermo, he would have been a natural replacement for [the suspended Moris] Carrozzieri. Is he ready for Milan? I do not know if he is a defender of Milan's standards even if he is a good addition."

The 27-year-old recently gained exposure at the Confederations Cup and was one of the most impressive players for the United States, as they made it all the way to the final before a 3-2 loss to Brazil.

Onyewu is now on a three-year deal at the San Siro.

Adam Scime, Goal.com

I guess though, that most of us share this opinion of the player. Not "Milan" standard. but we must ask oursleves, what is Milan standard these days? Dihno for Kaka and Seedorf for Gourcuff. not exactly the heights in which it used to be....

Ledesma Lazio-Juventus Serie A (Grazia Neri)Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma announced that he wanted to leave the club on Tuesday and the player's agent, Vicenzo D'Ippoilito, has confirmed the news his client will be departing the Stadio Olimpico.

Fiorentina and Milan have been the club's most commonly linked with the Argentine, but D'Ippolito claims that his client's destination is far from being decided.

"Fiorentina will buy someone more similar to Felipe Melo, but we will wait to see what happens with AC Milan and [Andrea] Pirlo," he was quoted as saying by the Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday.

"Cristian's preference is to remain in Italy, but we will evaluate offers from abroad."

He also revealed the price that Ledesma's services will cost any potential suitors.

"The price is set at €15 million. We have set this price and not chosen to use [FIFA] Article 17 out of gratitude for Lazio. For some, €15 million is not a small amount, but..."

Adam Scime, Goal.com

Far cheaper than Hernanes and a proven star in Serie A. Even if Pirlo doesn't leave, we should get him....

:proud:

Ok, I respect the fact that you do not like Megan Fox much, but this analogy isn't really about you and your feelings. The bottomline is, if you are dating Megan Fox, dubbed the "Sexiest Girl on Earth"; even if you don't like her all that much, all the other guys will be staring and drooling (ask the guys on this board, lol).

And that is why this analogy works on a sports level. If we have a guy like Kaka, even if we don't like him that much (which is totally not the case), other clubs will be on the phone trying to sign him year after year because how good he is. And when another team calls, Kaka's agent kind of have to pick up the phone and talk to them. If B&G can't stand that fact, then we are doomed to end up with a squad full of washups and third rate players in their prime. Sure, we won't have to deal with the headache every year, but our performance would suck big time as well. It has more to do with having the right attitude for the team rather than the individual moves made or didn't make.

Having WC players actaully means having players that other teams want.

Look at Messi, every teams want him but there is no rumor about him leaving Barcelona.
CR7, Kaka are others.
Villa, Torres, Terry, Vidic....

What makes those players stay at their current clubs and don't req a transfer means the club itself must be a great club and is winning or at least challenging for titles every year.

Sadly, Milan is none of that.
There is an article about Galli will get the last laugh b/c he is playing the waiting game....I think if it happens a few years ago, I would say yes. But not so this year, as there are just too many players in the transfer market that can outbid Milan now.

And from the comments Carlo made I read on Channel4 regarding Pirlo and Pato. I have a feeling Pirlo will head to Chelsea by Aug and Pato will be going to the Blues next summer.

Great post.

On the thought of Berlu, I actually mentioned that long ago, the moment that he is the PM of Italy, he must cut all ties with Milan. The thing is, not investing in Milan is one thing, he could have sold Milan to someone who can give 100% to Milan.
As for coming out and saying the team is full of champions....well, he could have chose not to say anything. On top of that, don't you think the players know that the team is not as good as Berlu sounded, and to me, if I am a Milan player and having Berlu comes out and say that, I would feel abit embarass more than being confidence.

As for Milan still being competitive. Well, for the last few years, Kaka and Maldini had been saying the team here and there. I just don't see how this current team will be competitive enough against the likes of Juve, Inter, and even the likes of Napoli, Genoa, Viola and Roma.
Even if NEsta is back to his best, which I really doubt, as he had been away from the game for a year. It took Jordan half a season to warm up with a hard trainning all summer to be back to top in 96-97, while his 18months absent from Basketball, he was actually playing pro. baseball. The odds are just very unlikely.
Then you have Dinho, who I still have great hopes for but with his current condition, he really can't carry the team for the whole season.
Not to mention Mr. 4 time CL winner, Pirlo and Janku.
Then there is Dida, who might be the keeper for the first month of the season.

If last season was about players being injured, what makes you think the coming year Milan players will have less injury? As they are all a year older.

Personally, I think Milan will struggle throughout the year and will start playing really well in late Feb and March for the push for CL.

Yes, Swordish, I agree that Adler would be great for our club....

THe problem is getting rid of Dida. I know many of you like him after what he did last season, but trust me, MGT is trying to get rid of him. His contribution doesn't match his wages.

Elevate the young Keeper will currently have (Peruccini or something?) and buy Adler.

The guy is a rising star who ousted Enke for the German no.1 spot.
No way in hell will Perucchini be elevated to the first squad this season unless an injury crisis really hits the GK stable.

As for the "not matching his wages" bit, we have a lot of players to whom that could apply as well.

as for as I understand... Milan admin still leaving in the past, Cheap days are gone Gali.. after the trend set by Madrid, no club going sell their player's at old market price. it's ironic isn't it, Milan want excessive money for their player's while try to buy player's on free transfer:stress:

People are saying that Berlu can't spend money due to being Italian PM, but IMO if he can't look after something so close to his heart, how can he look after a whole country. Italy would get a major boost with Milan being competitive esp in Europe more than it would with a weak Milan like we have.

Andre Santos agent reveals AC Milan, Juventus interest
09.07.09 | tribalfootball.com
The agent of Corinthians defender Andre Santos is coy over talk of a move to AC Milan.

Andre Santos has mentioned Roma and Juventus as other potential destinations and Mariano Grimaldi told Tuttomercatoweb: "We are working on various possibilities in Italy.

"On the player there are various teams. In my judgment, there is more Italian teams than foreign ones, also because the player is firmly convinced of wanting Italy."

Asked about Juventus and Milan, Grimaldi added: "These teams have demonstrated an indication of approval elevated towards Santos."

Sounds like Juve will get their man. And with their Brazilian influnces, thats not a hard task.

Do you know what would be a slap in the face? If Juve signs Mattioni and he plays well to the point that we all go, how did that happened, thats a slap in the face.

BTW, I read on Channel4 that Arsenal is offering Senderous/Eboue and 5Mil for Melo. Now, I am not going to jump on the Melo's wagon but surely Milan can offer better than that. Afterall, Senderous is in the deal.

Trust me, the plan WAS different when we first entered the market, as we were initially going to spend half of Kaka's transfer fee. But when Berlu and Galliani's stinginess got in the way, the plan quickly changed into what you mentioned above.

I have no words, we can now wait for Cissokho to sign for some good club and become a great player. I have faith in Leo's choices, and he was his choice.

This LB that played for Brasil in the last tournament is not what we need. He is just a normal fullback, not a class one.

Realistic outcome is a fight for 4th place, **** it, we are not in that place and will be untill the club is sold. So those of you how support Silvio to stay as owner, now you can be happy.

------------Abbiati
Zambro--Nesta--T. Silva--Janku
-Gattuso---Pirlo---Ambro/Flamini
-------------Dinho
-----Luis Fabiano---Pato

I would like to say, agter saying that your post was great, that this team is not capable of scudetto and CL results.

Leonardo spoke well and I do expect him to get something more from certain players then Carlo did ( Pirlo lately, Seedorf, Flamini, Dinho ). But players are like tires, they simply get wasted. We cannot expect that now suddenly we'll play fast football with Ambro, Pirlo, Dinho, Seedorf - those players cant run at all. We cant expect to use fullbacks well when we have ONE FB that is class ( Oddo, Marek cant cross even if its up to their lives ). Oddo in the first place HAS NOTHING TO DO IN MILAN!!!

Fabiano is a very good striker, but he is no Torres, Drogba, Ibra, old Sheva. He is not a player that will solve games by himself. Pato is still extremly young player, young players tend to variate and to dissapear in parts of the game ( kaka' did that in the begginings too but people forgot it ).

And suddenly Kaladze and Bonera will play 25% better then they ususaly do? Why? Coz of the "new era"? It will not happen. Not to mention that Favalli is absolutely a joke aldough he is a great tactician and I actually like him when he is not on the field for Milan :)

To me it seems that ONLY way we can say that we are in position to improve our sistemn and squad is to add quality players. That is not a FM talk, that is reality. Leonardo asked for Cissokho, becouse he saw that man can play full tempo up and down for 120min, has power and stamina. He asked for Hernanes, becouse Hernanes is a CLASS player. We lack CM since Seedorf was young! Hernanes can play like that.

Im sorry for 3 posts but I got carryed away. My apologies.

I'm still surprised that Huntelaar would move to the Bundesliga, and Stuttgart of all teams , though nothing is signed yet.

I haven't been that impressed by Santos, either, he seems pretty ordinary for a Brazilian full back, though €6m is still a good price.

IF we get another striker and a full back, and IF Nesta stays healthy and IF Dinho and Pirlo rediscover their form (and are used correctly) then I think we'll be the 3rd strongest team in the league. With management's lack of interest we really rely on the players already here to perform...

we need to go for dzeko again!! why signing strikers who arent milan class? that is simply wasting money!!! from the strikers linked only Dzeko is good enough, he's probably also the most expensive one, but its useless to sign players who arent good enough.

Fret, agree with you 100%, as people kept talking about defense, or strikers....but to me the the midfield is a huge problem too.

As for Hunter not coming, well, I think he is quality, afterall, just look at his goal ratio. But he is more a poacher thus he needs players around him for support. He is more suited if he is the lone striker with two wingers rather than how Milan will play.

Anyhow, not a big loss in my opinion, but his pricetag will be more of an indication of how the market will go. If he is around 15mil or so, then Luis and Dzeko won't be coming for less than 25 or so. While if Hunter is going for 10mil or so, then Luis and Dzeko should be around 20mil.

As of now, there are only a handful of strikers being in the market with a lot of teams looking for strikers.

If Madrid agrees with Stuttgart instead of Milan ... what can we do ?
If Huntelaar agrees to move to Stuttgart despite the interest of Milan, what can we do ?

Madrid seems to play a hard game with us now they have what they wanted for the last 3-4 years (a kind of revenge because we didn't sell Kaka' earlier ??), and Huntelaar, by choosing Stuttgart instead of waiting for an offer from us being accepted, just showed his lack of ambition for his career.

So I don't see why people are STILL bashing everyone they can because of that ...

PS: If Inzaghi had left, we could have taken Huntelaar to be his direct replacement ... it's maybe a reason why we don't insist too much for him as Inzaghi is still there. And if he goes to Stuttgart, we will have a new chance to get him in 2-3 years ...

PS1: To reply Gabriel, if Huntelaar leaves for less than 25M, so that will mean that Madrid won't give us any player nor sell us any player at a lower price to thank us to have sold Kaka', as it was mentionned several times in medias (many times, an agreement between us and Madrid was reported ...).

Well, Geo, I would not say Hunter is lacking in ambition if he signs with Stuttgart.

If I am him and I have to choose between a Loan offer which can be mature in August or an offer right away to another team. I will choose the ladder. As I can settle in earlier with the new surroundings... On top of that, if Milan sign someone else before August, and withheld the loan offer, I will end up on the bench for Real and hope that guys like Raul and Benzema gets injured in order for me to play.
Thats actually the good way of thinking. Or Hunter just believe that he will have a better future in Stuttgart than in Milan, and if thats the case, it is truly very sad.

I disagree ... there was one report saying we want him on loan, but firstly, there were reports about a rejected purchase offer.

Also, with the new coach, Huntelaar would have a chance to be the second striker in the list in Madrid ...

And to finish, a guy like him is always asked, so he knows that if he rejects Stuttgart and then Milan doesn't come back to get him, other clubs of the same standard (best German teams and best English teams if not the best Italian ones) will try to get him then ...

Well, Huntelaar is a very respected striker and he shouldn't fear that some of the major clubs won't pursue him.
Man Utd, Milan, Stuttgart are being mentioned but that doesn't mean that some other clubs that are going to play CL next season won't be needing a striker.
