With Huntelaar POSSIBLY coming (no official statement = no new player), a lot of pessimistic people will have to praise our management for this signing because Huntelaar was one of the players many people here chose to take as an example of our bad choices when he was available from Ajax (people kept saying that we missed Torres after Atletico and Huntelaar after Ajax, but now, it looks like we will have Huntelaar) ...

Anyone from Sweden knows anything about this kid?

Looks like Milan have an option on this Sjoberg.

for all u huntelaar haters, saying he will be the next Gila.
Huntelaar is better than Gila. and the only way he may not be effective is due to the lack of quality services from or wing backs and midfielders.

he looks like a top signing anyone that can score 76 goals in 92 appearances for ajax is a top striker.

Mateja Kezman scored 105 goals in 122 games for PSV, and look how he fared once he moved to a top league (at Chelsea and Atletico).

how so? the biggest team that Gilla had success at was Parma. He was ok at a few other small Italian teams. Hunt was twice the Dutch league top scorer, for his club career, he has 265 apperiences, and 179 goals. that is very impressive. For Holland, he has 21 caps and 13 goals, again, extremely impressive. just for comparison, Pippo has a .486 goals per game average on the club level, and Hunt's is .675.

The difference is Pippo scored his goals in the defensively strongest league on the planet (at least it was in his prime), whereas the Eredivisie, while a good league, isn't reknowned for defensive solidity. And his international goals were scored against poor or average NTs, except for Croatia and Romania.

Anyway, I'm not trying to destroy Huntelaar's credibility, I'm just remaining sceptical, as he hasn't really impressed me yet (having mainly watched him at Madrid). Mostly I'm just pleased it looks like we're finally getting someone, who's not a freebie or a bought-back youngster.

so what on the other hand van nistlerooy moved from psv where he scored 62 goals in 67 appearances and went on to score 95 goals in 150 appearances at manchester united. I also remain cautions of his impact at Milan but i do rate as a top striker he has all characteristic of a top striker, anyway his arrival will have a positive affect on the team a uplift in team morale was desperately needed sometimes the best approach to lifting players motivation is to sign players.

To understand Milan these days you need to think what would be the best option and then expect the opposite...

Glad Huntelaar is coming, I believe everything will end up well and we'll get good striker...

Cissokho's case wasn't Galliani's fault, I believe Berlusconi stopped the transfer once he heard about giving 15M euros for practicly unproven player...

Galliani just made an excuse, really stupid one btw. :F

I merely wanted to put some perspective on the matter, since you said "anyone that can score 76 goals in 92 appearances for ajax is a top striker".

It's unlikely, of course, that he'll end up like Kezman, but it's also unlikely he's going to emulate the goalscoring records of van Nistelrooy or van Basten.

One thing in particular that gives me hope that Huntelaar will be a success. His positional sense and instinct for goal isn't too unlike Inzaghi. Given Inzaghi's form right now, and rather the success he's had under Leo thus far, it bodes well for Hunterlaar.

At Ajax Huntelaar's record is undisputable (in fact, generally in Holland). As a national team player his record is excellent thus far and at Real, despite the questions about 8 goals in 20 games, let's not forget many of those games he came on as a sub and generally had to try and fit into a disjointed and awkward side halfway through a season. His record at Real isn't at all bad given the circumstance imo.

Quite honestly, I'm not Huntelaar's biggest fan, but given his record so far in his career, which is unquestionable I do have high hopes for him should he come to Milan. As for comparing him to Gila, both are different players really. Gila in his career hasn't done too badly, and that includes his time at Milan (an average of 0.4 goals per game isn't particularly bad, especially given the problems he had in his time at Milan). However, Gila's stats at this point don't compare at all to Huntelaar's. Gila's career average is 0.4 goals per game, whilst Huntelaar's is 0.7. We need to factor in the different leagues, but let's face it, that's a huge difference.

In my opinion Fabiano would've been the perfect partner for Pato, since I think Pato and Ronaldinho would've been better off playing with a goalscorer who is also extremely technical than with a pure goal-scorer, but given his price and age compared to Huntelaar I can see why we signed him instead.

Anyways let's hope for loads of goals if we get him, will be interesting. Haven't heard a word from him or his agent though, will be interesting to hear. It's pretty funny how different the agent of Fabiano and the agent of Huntelaar acts.

there you go fellas priority number 1 has been solved, im happy with huntelaar tall (6'1") fast dutch striker no injuries and almost guaranteed to start for the oranje, now i herd that arsenal has a board meeting tommorow, the reason i have no idea,so now a LB and a attacking midfielder, pirlo can distribute and gattuso or flamini can backup or we might stop playing with 2 defensive midfielders all the time so now cesc fabregas is the target or atleast look how much arsenal will let him go? great thing fellas is that you can drive from milano to barcelona by car and be there in a couple of hours, things are looking better fellas let's raise the spirits around here!

Agreed, I like the fact that we're signign Huntelaar. Dzeko is a good player, but he could prove to be a one-season wonder, we don't know. I guess some of you remember when we signed a certain Javi Moreno after one good season at Alaves in Spain... It's not always turning out well.

I dont see Huntelaar as being too great of a buy. It is a necessary buy, yes: we needed a new forward. We'll be playing with Ronaldinho & Pato and a CF. We now have Borriello and Pippo (who can play very few games.. but when he does should be a starter). If the HUntelaar deal is true, we finally have three quality, or at least acceptable quality, CF's who can at least assure there is always someone there for that role.

If Huntelaar is better than Luis Fabiano (which Leonardo doesnt think) I dunno. But neither of the two would really add any difference to our game. Dzeko could potentially have been the CF to add more alternatives to our playing style (he was Leonardo's n. 1 choice, I think). The problem is that he is not at all established and had one good year. Possibly next year, if he keeps up the good work esp. in the CL, we could look to get him next year. Pippo will be able to play even less games than he does now, so I dont think we would have a superfluous amount of players in the CF role.

The next allarming point of our team is a quality fullback. Maybe De Silvestri, who I would definately trade for Oddo. It might be difficult since De Silvestri probably has a higher value but also a wage which is a fraction of Oddo's. We would have to put in some cash, which we might not have.

Ideally, I would also see the need for a creative midfielder, possibly offensive. Our midfield right now lacks creativity apart from Pirlo. In the AMC we lack a sub for Ronaldinho - who we dont even know if he will perform to our needs. Then also, another quality FB... in our team I'd like Zambro + a LB and RB to toggle around with. But this is maybe too much to hope for, I doubt we will even see anyone apart from Huntelaar. Possibly next year, or in January.

Huntelaar has pretty big teeth. This concerns me because he is yet to go through a medical.

Other than that, if we are really going to sign him he is in my opinion the best option. Im sick of seeing Milan not shoot for 30 minutes. He will shoot and when he shoots he will score. He is no Kezman who scored only 4 goals in his 25 Chelsea apperances, where as Huntelaar scored 8 goals in 20 games for Real and has scored almost as many international goals as Kezman in less than half the games that Kezman played. If we are really buying him then he will be our Torres.

BUT we still need another defender. If we signed Santacrocce I wouldnt even care if we didnt sign another player until next summer. (Assuming we are really buying Huntelaar too)

Didn't mean to be rude or anything.

Sorry about the norwegian link. Anyway, it roughly says that it's a 978 kilometres drive from Barcelona to Milan. According to maps.google.com it should take about 9 hours and 15 minutes.

Even though I'm from Norway I've actually driven from Marseille to Tuscany (pretty much follows more or less parts of the route from Barcelona to Milan) which is a much shorter distance and I can guarantee you that it took more than a couple of hours.

A flight from Barcelona to Milan takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

We are playing in the 4-3-1-2 line up. In this formation our attack would consists of:

Pato - Pippo/Huntelaar/Boriello
Dinho
CM - Pirlo - CM

In the 4-3-3 formation, our attack would consist of:

Just joking mate (: Aye, it does look like it's going to end up like that, the problem is that Flamini and Seedorf are the only CMs we have with offensive potential (Besides Ambrosini's headers)

Reports are saying it's close, but I've learned my lesson. Wait until he's passed the medical, and announced!

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think management is looking for a Full Back, because we almost signed Cissohko at the beginning of the mercato, and while it didn't go through that must show that we are looking for a Full Back.

I read that Berlusconi said today: "The squad is very good, but Leonardo believes that it needs a few reinforcements, and we will put the funds aside to make the signings possible"

So I hope we are looking to fill in other positions as well, let's hope.

Huntelaar is better than Gila. and the only way he may not be effective is due to the lack of quality services from or wing backs and midfielders.

And that is our problem.

Don't get me wrong, I'm truly happy if he comes, but if he fails we know who's to blame. I hope we buy a fullback and a midfielder to guarantee the ball supply upfront.

Alas, I can only hope.

According to milan's esteemed chief medical official Dr. Pierre Messerman, the Real Madrid striker is suffering from a severe case of split ends. This hair root problem is believed to be linked with a far more serious muscle tissue damage. This has stalled negotiations indefinitely although Adriano Galliani has indicated that Milan may still be willing to buy the player at a cut price of €5Million and a bottle of conditioner.

I usually won't smile when I read something like this, but now two thumbs up for you. LOL. :5ok::5ok:

We won't use 2 attacking midfielder with Pirlo often at the same time.

Abate can surely step up and become a decent back-up to our primary attacking CMs. Di Gennaro can also be used as an attacking CM but he still has to show some credibility in the Milan jersey. Lets hope he can do that in the friendlies coming up.

I would still appreciate the idea of buying an attacking CM who can be a first team player. If that happens, Di Gennaro will be sent on loan.

[QUOTE=ACMILAN1983;544124]One thing in particular that gives me hope that Huntelaar will be a success. His positional sense and instinct for goal isn't too unlike Inzaghi. Given Inzaghi's form right now, and rather the success he's had under Leo thus far, it bodes well for Hunterlaar.

I will take your post 1983, just because you touch in some good points.
First of all, Huntelaar of the 3(Fabiano, Dzeko and himself) was my last choice. So Iīm really not happy as others here...

That said, if he become a Milan player, I will wish him the best, and that he makes me feel like a fool for doubting him.

Afonso Alves record in Eredivisie was also amazing, but everyone know what hapened in Brazil NT and in EPL. What bothers me in Huntelaar numbers in Ajax is that he always had a hard time when faced with the only high level defense at that time in Holland...PSV.

Also, he canīt lead Ajax to go through a Qualy. of Champions League in his years there. I really donīt have faith that he will deliver wtih the pressure to score for Milan. To be fair heīs more experienced now than in Ajax, but I dont believe. Also, I saw his goals at Real and the majority came against poor teams. At Milan, with our poor service, he will need to change his style.

I donīt know...itīs a huge difference but also itīs a huge difference between the leagues type of football. Teams in Eredivisie with their 4-3-3 schemes are always very exposed(besides Hiddink and Koeman PSVīs). In Italy he will face 10 men in the box in almost all games, and will need to create his own chances...and as I said before, with our famous service :v46: Huntelaar will see how hard is to be a Milan striker nowadays

Iīm really not happy...

would it make sense to buy Fabio Grosso for 5mil-ish and have him start for a year or two? at that point, hopefully Albertazzi will be ready to step in. He will also have had the chance to have been mentored by Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Gianluca Zambrotta, and Fabio Grosso... thats a pretty amazing list of defense players to have learned from

Yep, Boban...and for the signals that Iīm seeing, Huntelaar(maybe) will be the last purchase:dontkn:

Also, even wanting Fabiano, I would trade him in anyday for a great defender. Canīt see how people are confortable with only Nesta and T. Silva as our only reliable defenders.

Even more young, Nesta always have injure problems...canīt see how he will stay healthy for the next season...and we will be one more time with Khaladze or Favalli at the back.

I sure hope Onyeiwo(sp?) find his form of Confederation Cup. Never saw him playing in such a high level as South Africa. But the odds arenīt good...

Fabiano, Huntelaar, Hernanes(is starting to find his best form)or even a new Lb will not help ou cause when Nesta(unfortunly) goes down :(

ideally we need 1 new qualified creative midfielder to lift up our performance as i dont have any faith on Dinho & Seedorf though Pirlo remains in Milan.

with upcoming Huntelaar to milan at least will provide more upgrading at attack dep. than what we saw in friendlies. comparing The Hunter with other strikers been targetted by milan (fabiano & dzeko), i agree fabiano is a better option than huntelaar (not considering the money have to be splashed out) but i wont give opinion him above or below dzeko caused i never saw dzeko even in a single 90min match either at club or NT.

Huntelaar is more complete than Pippo, but Pippo is the best ever in his type. No debate there, LOL.

Anyway I'm really glad at last we got someone 'big'. And when next year Dzeko come, our attack will be completed for 4-5 years unless Berlu is going mad and sell Pato for 60M.

(A healthy) Nesta and T.Silva are class, but I don't know how to replace them if one of them can't play (with big possibility). More crucial is the backup for Dinho. I can't believe we only have Seedorf for that role, and do nothing.

About full back and mid... is the rumor about double sweep for De Silvestri and Ledesma finished as just another rumor?

i agree that Pippo is the best of his type, but i would say he is also the last of his type, i dont think another player like him will ever exist.

Dinho worries me, as i have said before, i would prefer G. Rossi. our lack of depth at his position scares me, as i feel that he will let us down at some point

Filipéz 182

actually Dinho is the least of my worries in midfield. the trio of pirlo-max-gattuso/flamini worries me more. also fullback position.

Max-Pirlo-Gattuso is a far too slow midfield. I really think we need some creative CM there. Hernanes still being my favourite. ledesma isnt the one we should look for IMO.

also our lack of attacking support by our fullbacks worries me, zambrotta isnt the zambrotta from his good days anymore and janks was never my favourite. Aly Cissokho couldve been a brilliant transfer!!

Then there is also dinho, who I think will have a good/decent season but not the dinho from his barca days, those days are gone I'm afraid. We should have a good (young) backup for him, as seedorf is an ex-player. But there is little chance we'll get a backup for him, but I can understand this as there are other priorities.

But he isn't a Milanista yet I will wait until he arrives until I start thinking about how he will play .

If its over 3 years something like 5 mil a year hopefully there is 15 + mil left would that get Hernanes.

Some fair points there. About Alves, I think there was a deeper problem for his failure at Middlesborough. He apparently scored 6 in 11 Premiership match in his first season, which is pretty good, but it's the second season he had a shocking dive. However, a difference between him and Huntelaar is Huntelaar's already shown in Spain he can succeed at the highest level, and Huntelaar's been consistent in the dutch league for a number of years more than Alves was there.

In Italy he'll face tougher defences, and maybe he only scores against weaker opponents, but I think we have to be prepared to take a risk and hope he works out. If we don't do this we could argue against many great players, like Van Basten, Gullit, Weah maybe, Kaka and Pato. What he has shown so far in his career he deserves a chance in a top club (a proper chance, not Real ;) ).

Please stop mentioning Grosso as an option Pirlofanusa. He only plays ok for italy and is horrendous at club level, as well as being 32. An italian janku if you will, without the occasional goal or good cross. Get Zapata to cover lb, so we can leave 3 in def, with rb going forward - antonini, abate, zambro, play one def mid - flamini, gattuso, ambro, and get a box to box mid too, or at least see if Abate or Di Gennaro could be developed into that player. Abate for passion could be, whilst technically Di Gennaro could be the new Pirlo.

I'm confused. I don't understand why everyone's so happy. Keep in mind that we also went for the cheapest option out of the three (Dzeko, Fabiano, Huntelaar). I also hope this doesn't rule out signing Dzeko next year.

So is this it, after we sign Huntelaar are we done with the market? are there any indications we're going for a fullback or a midfielder? I would like to see Sneijder here, but he is by no means a world-class player (well not yet at least). We are in desperate need of an attacking midfielder to take Dinho's spot when he's injured or tired.

He is a natural born finisher and a very very good player he's not just about poaching when he passes the medical I will be very happy to have him at Milan and am excited to see him and Pato tear up Serie A.

I've been following the Hunter since his AGOVV days, I'm always very excited about new young talents and I see much more of the Eredivisie than of our own belgian league.

I want to know what his strong or weak points are, whether he contributes at the team play, whether he uses his body, how he is in the air and on the ground, can he work together with Pato??

Oh yes....sorry didnt understand, just woke up you know.

He has several strong points,i will mention the strongest ones: He is incredible strong in the air,do you know how Pippo heads?Hunter is just the same,in aerial challenges he ALMOST NEVER loses,he just is so strong in the air its really incredible,he has scored many goals with his head,he never aims wrong. We finally have a forward who can head the ball in without to much trouble and who can benefit from our crosses, finally,we can force something in the air, because with Hunter thats not a problem.

His finishing skills are also amazing,i really cant remember him missing one on one with the goalkeeper,he ALWAYS scores when he gets the chance,ALWAYS!His finishing skills are also similiar to Pippo's,its just that he cant miss, and the most perfect thing is he doesnt need to have a good chance to score,he has scored many goals from difficult places wich seemed impossible,so he can do it out of all kind positions.

I also want to give some attention to his techniqual ablity, because it seems that it is worring some posters here,he can do much more then what is assumed here on this forum, just like Ibra,i have seen Klaas-Jan give many times split passes through defences or brilliant assists,he isnt Pato or Kaka, thats for sure, but he contributes to our team play with a huge impact,he isnt like RVN,who waits for the ball and then when he gets it he finish it off,Hunter is more active and tries to involve himself with the teamplay, and when he has the ball he isnt that clumsy on it but he can acctually free himself up with his technique,he can do much more then only finishing. He scored backflips,free-kicks everything,so he can also score beatifull goals.

He is also a free-kick master, just so you know that, scored many goals at Ajax from free-kicks,and a static striker cant score beatiful crossy free-kicks hm........

He also shows up in BIG AND SMALL games,at Ajax,he scored against PSV and Feyenoord but also in CL against Inter, while he also crushed small teams at his own.So no problemo there.Oh,and when he plays bad he even manages to score,so thats also a good thing.

Why are people saying that Dutch League you get more space then Serie A so it is less hard to score?Against Ajax all teams play with all their people in the box to prevent them to score,so Huntelaar is already uses to 9-man defenses, who he crushed by the way,he was always marked with more then one guy and still scored more then one goal sometimes.

He will also be a great partner with Pato, how do i know that?Because Huntelaar succeed upfront at Ajax with Suarez,a similiar player to Pato who has also incredible speed and technique,so if he could do it with Suarez(they really played good together)then he should also do it with Pato, they are the same, only Pato is better so it should be easier.

He only uses his body when needed, usely when he gets the ball and he can shoot he doesnt wait and tries to first do fancy things etc.he always aims and shoots precisely just like a real HUNTER.But when he needs to open up space for other players or hang on the ball, sure he uses his body, but he isnt like Toni who always puts his body in because he cant do anything else, just like i said: He can do more then only score.

On the ground he is good, giving split paces and sometimes good one-two's with other players,he isnt Pato but he is decent enough,he was trained at Ajax IMO,there if you cant play soccer on the ground fast, then you are not Ajax-material.

The fact that he grew up at Ajax should already remove all doubts about how he is in terms of technique......

He is also dynamic,he has to give a assist or score goals and thats his goal for the matches,he said in a interview,he works 90 minutes full for that one moment and when he gets it he finishes it.

Hope you have know got some picture about Huntelaar.

Milan general manager Adriano Galliani has confirmed that the Rossoneri have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Klaas Jan Huntelaar, and that the Dutchman will arrive at San Siro tonight where he will then undergo a medical before signing his official contract.

The Italian giants have been chasing a striker all summer, and owner Silvio Berlusconi yesterday announced that the club would sign a top class hitman.

Reports then broke in the evening in the Italian media that Milan had signed Huntelaar for € 15 million, and Galliani has now confirmed that the 25-year-old is almost a Rossoneri player.

“With Real Madrid there is already an agreement on everything," Galliani told Sky Sport 24.

"It is not true that there is still no fax from Madrid, the agreement has been finalized.

“Huntelaar will arrive in Milan this evening, then we will perform his medical and he will sign the contract.”

Milan fans will be hoping that Huntelaar's medical passes without any hiccups, following the collapse of Aly Cissokho's move from Porto earlier this summer.

I see many of you aksing questions about Dzeko, so here we go. Dzeko was BY FAR the best attacking option we had, though too expensive. It's not just one good season, Dzeko is magnificent for our NT also. In couple of years he'll be the best no. 9 in Europe. For 23 years old, he's positional sense is brilliant, he's pretty quick, REALLY strong, with two good foots, great in the air and clinical finisher. As for Misimovic, he's very good AM playmaker with great vision, passing and technique. Though he wouldn't suit us because we have Ronaldinho and, if you would consider him Seedorf's replacement, no, he cannot defend.

@ Dutchie-Milan

I've never seen Huntelaar in a full match, but I've seen a lots of clips. From those, I made conclusions that he's a striker with great possitional sense, pretty strong, with amazing shooting (he can shoot from any position, he strongly reminds me on Van Basten here), good finisher, good in the air, and a solid techique. But one thing that bothers me is his speed. So I ask you: how quick he is? Quickness-wise, who would you compare him to? I tried to get as many informations about him as possible, so I've heard that he's not faster than Van Nistelrooy.

Fiorentina may find their bid for Lorenzo De Silvestri scuppered by Milan, as the Rossoneri have a crucial bargaining chip in Ignazio Abate.

It has been reported that the Viola agreed an €8 million fee with Lazio for De Silvestri, but nothing has yet been signed.

After a summit meeting was held between the movers and shakers at San Siro yesterday, Milan's transfer negotiations are moving much more quickly and they are said to be close to a deal for Lazio's right-back, according to Milannews.it.

Draft proposals for the transfer have been drawn up between Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and Lazio president Claudio Lotito, but while Fiorentina have matched Lazio's asking price, Milan are considering a simple player exchange.

The Rossoneri are thought to believe that Abate's youth and talent is equivalent to that of De Silvestri and are hoping to take advantage of the good relations between the two clubs to push through a swap deal.

Anthony Wright, Goal.com

I know he is in a position most needed (probably can play LB or free up Zambrotta, but is he worth Abate? I quite like the young winger with his leg speed!)

@ dutchieMilan

I've been following the Hunter since his AGOVV days, I'm always very excited about new young talents and I see much more of the Eredivisie than of our own belgian league.

He was my favourite player when he was at Heerenveen. I never understood why PSV didnt gave him a real chance there.

BTW: his style reminds me of van nistelrooy, do you agree with that?
this wouldnt be a bad thing as RvN scored many many goals for man utd and real madrid. also his scoring record in the champions league is amazing!

Yes you are right,i am going to talk dutch with you because its easier ok?

The good part about KJH is that he's got the abilities we need, he's a great goalscorer and he's got a good physical presence in the air (especially his bicycle kicks :D). The bad part is that he's not exactly the greatest when it comes to contributing to the team, setting up other players etc. I'm not looking forward to R80 trying to play a fancy one-two play with KJH. ;)

People are correct that he's a better all rounder than Pippo, since Pippo is the WORST player in the world if your criteria is all round-skills. :D Still Pippo will continue to score tons of goals even when he's 70 years old!

EXCLUSIVE: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar Will Be As Good As Inzaghi For Milan - Filippo Galli

Filippo Galli, ex-Milan centre-back and currently a youth team coach at the club, has exclusively told Goal.com Italia that Real Madrid forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be as successful as current Milan legend Filippo Inzaghi.

The Dutchman is expected to undergo a medical later today and could officially complete his transfer to Milan as early as this evening.

"I like [Huntelaar] a lot, he is a great striker," Galli enthused. "He is a finisher like few others, but he also works hard for the team. In short, he is a player of great value.

"We can say that he is very similar [to Filippo Inzaghi]. He has the same hunger for goals but is a few years younger. Of course, there is only one Inzaghi but Huntelaar is very similar."

Galli, who played 217 times for the Rossoneri during a 13-year spell with the club (1983-1996), also criticised those who have claimed that the former Ajax striker was a failure at Real Madrid.

"He is not a fall back, this should be clear," Galli added, making reference to Milan's earlier moves for Edin Dzeko and Luis Fabiano. "Whoever says that he has failed at Real Madrid is making a mistake. He scored eight times, despite playing very little.

"I believe that he and Luis Fabiano were the first choices. In the end it was he who arrived after a decision made by [coach] Leonardo and the staff."

Have to say that he is a bit quicker then RVN,but yes he isnt quick, but dont wory about that he makes it up with his other attributes, but yes he isnt that quick, although quicker then slow RVN.But no worries mate,he never had trouble with his quickness,in Eredivisie soccer is played quick on the ground(at least they trie so....)and he never was behind or something like that.

I have no idea, but I assume he's in decent shape having trained in preseason with Real Madrid? If we assume everything works out well with the medical and contract signing, there is always some days for him to get his affairs in order (moving into his new home, meet the team, getting to know the Milanello etc). We will probably not see him against Benfica on saturday, but maybe in Trofeo TIM on the 14th?

Goal.com Worldview: Klaas Jan Huntelaar To Milan – Top Or Flop?

Real Madrid
Finally Milan fans have something to smile about. Or do they? After a summer of doom and gloom, during which the Italian giants sold star man Kaka to Real Madrid, lost eternal legend and captain Paolo Maldini to retirement, and saw long-term coach Carlo Ancelotti move to Chelsea and replaced by rookie Leonardo – not to mention the collapse of Aly Cissokho’s transfer from Porto – Milan finally made their move on the transfer market.

It was reported in the Italian and Spanish media yesterday evening that Real Madrid striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar would be joining for €15 million, and this morning Milan general manager Adriano Galliani confirmed that the transfer would be completed after the Dutchman arrives at San Siro this evening and successfully completes a medical.

Milan have been written off in many quarters, but will the signing of Huntelaar help them challenge this season for major honours? A selection of Goal.com editors from around the world have their say on whether the 25-year-old will be a Top or Flop…

Ewan Macdonald (Goal.com International): It's good for Huntelaar, who will always be a decent enough poacher, but is it good for Milan? He is clearly and abundantly a distant third choice after Dzeko and Fabiano, they've spent €15m on him, and he's also a guy who was rejected by Real Madrid after just six months. He is in every sense a cast-off.

When I was growing up Milan wouldn't have been seen dead signing another team's nobody. Now it's expected of them. Very sad.

Francois Duchateau (Goal.com France): I saw ‘The Hunter’ a lot at Ajax, and I'm sure he will be the next Marco van Basten at Milan. Mark my words. Now he has a club that counts on him. I'm happy he didn’t go to Stutgart. He will be the next star in Italy, after the exit of Ibrahimovic.

Sergio Stanco (Goal.com Italy): He is not the forward that Milan are looking for. For years Ancelotti said that Milan needed a big player, who will be able to hold the attack, to open the defence and so on. Leonardo asked the same, and Dzeko, Luis Fabiano and even Claudio Pizarro are these kind of players.

Is Huntelaar the same? Not in my opinion, he's just a goalscorer, a younger Pippo Inzaghi. My impression? Leonardo said: “I need a forward”, Berlusconi answered “You have €15m”, and Adriano Galliani took the only good striker on the market at that price. We'll see if he's the right player.

Tommy Vaneldik (Goal.com Netherlands): Huntelaar is one of the best finishers in football at this moment. He's definitely a good addition to the Milan squad. He showed that at Ajax, and also in the Dutch national team and the youths that won the European Championship in Portugal in 2006. The fact that Real Madrid don't want him anymore is not the fault of Huntelaar, but of Real. The way this club is governed is a joke. They buy a striker for a huge bag of euros and six months later this guy isn't even good enough to get a squad number? Unbelievable!

His statistics at Real weren't that bad last season (20 games, 8 goals in La Liga) and if they would have given him a chance he could have become a good player at Real. But instead they throw players and coaches away like garbage and just buy new ones. And if they have a couple of bad games the same thing starts again and this will happen over and over again. Is it just a coincidence that the last European successes of Real Madrid were during the era of Vicente del Bosque, a coach who was allowed to stay for more than year and had the opportunity to build something up? And what about the way he was sacked?

Milan can be happy about their new striker. In addition, this could be very good for the image of the Serie A in the Netherlands. Finally a Dutch player with a big name is going to play in Italy (with the exception of Clarence Seedorf, which is a very different and complicated story...) and that's very important. The way Dutch football lovers look at the Serie A at this moment is not very positive. They all prefer the Premier League and La Liga over here and even the Bundesliga is more popular. So, a good Dutch role model is very good for the perception of the Italian League in the Netherlands. And the way Real Madrid treat Huntelaar (and the other players like Rafael van der Vaart and Michel Salgado) is a total disgrace!

Carlo Garganese (Goal.com International): Huntelaar reminds me very much of a young David Trezeguet, and if the supply is good you would expect him to score a lot of goals. If the supply is bad, he may be anonymous. Whether he will prove to be the "world class" striker that Berlusconi promised remains to be seen. Although he scored goals galore in Holland, he is still relatively unproven in a big league after his short term experience in Spain, so we won't know for sure until Serie A kicks off.

What I do believe though is that the blend between Huntelaar and Pato in attack is good. As ‘types’ they will compliment each other very well. Much will depend on how Ronaldinho does, and if he can feed Klaas. Whatever the outcome, the signing of Huntelaar is not enough - Milan still need a midfielder and a full back, and if they don't buy them this season could still be very rough.

It is a good first step, but Milan still need more.

André Baibich (Goal.com Brazil): I think Huntelaar is a good signing for the €15m that Milan wanted to spend on a new centre forward. He has the talent to blossom with the opportunity of playing frequently, something he didn't have at Madrid. For me, it's a step down in quality if you compare him to Luis Fabiano, but he still is a fine player. Nevertheless, I agree with Carlo when he says it's not enough. A creative midfielder is urgent to replace Kaka. Milan can't rely on an improbable Ronaldinho recovery.

the most amazing thing for me about The Hunter is that he can score from EVERYWHERE. the point is, he isnt really a creative striker but he doesnt need a 'chance' to score :D He fires from everywhere, doesnt matter how difficult his position is.
but still, I'm a bit more reserved than dutchie-milan. I want too see him shine in the CL first! :)

Also dutchie you say huntelaar is more active in the general play than inzaghi or van nistelrooy. but dont you thing he HAD to do that when he was at ajax. becouse ajax most of the times plays 4-3-3 and he is there only real striker. A striker at ajax must play football and combining with the others. I think here at Milan he will be more used Pippo/RvN style...

I would LOVE to have De silvestri here, but not for Abate!! Abate had a decent pre season and I would give him a try this season. he is a player with different qualitys than the rest of the team, like you said, a winger, he could be very usefull.

I think Klaas will thrive because of Ronaldinho. He seems far more capable than Inzaghi in the ability to control awkward balls, and R80 is the king of delivering awkward passes. We'll see, but I have a feeling that those two are going to be creating lots of quick 'pass from nowhere-control shoot' goals.

I second that. Abate has shown in these pre-season matches that he can very well play as an attacking midfielder beside Pirlo. We must keep him and let him develop.

I would rather give Oddo or may be Kaladze away to Lazio for De Silvestri.

Too true. he has the lungs to play as centre mid + winger in same match, meaning we could use bonera as a stay at home rb, allowing our lb antonini/zambro to push forward more.

De Silvestri maybe a good option, but he's a sub @ Lazio ffs. It's not like we would be getting a serious upgrade on team, whilst Abate has shown that he could a vital player.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that Abate stays. Getting De Silvestri without losing Abate can pretty much close the market for me. I know everyone wants a playmaker midfielder, but we lost Kaka and Gourcuff, so we need to give Abate the chance. He's been so impressive this pre-season, give the kid a chance.

I pray De Silvestri is true. He's an immediate starter on the left side. Not only that, but Janku can be dangerous if we push him up to midfield. He's terrible in defense, but can push up to midfield and cause some damage.

Di Silvestri can play on both sides I believe, and you're right there's nothing too special about him.

E quando ci si mette la sfortuna non c'č nulla da fare. La squa*dra ha il compito di essere pro*tagonista in Italia e in Europa, come sempre...".

I tried to look at him some years ago after playing FM (maybe 2007) as I bought him in each game I played. De Silvestri is a good RB and he is an improvement over Oddo and, if used in this position, Antonini.

Anyway, he isn't a RB who will attack like Cafu was, he is a more defensive RB.

If we get De Silvestri ... People tend to want Janku to play like a midfielder, why not trying that with Antonini too ? He has grinta, he moves a lot, maybe too much for a fullback (tends to be out of position), so maybe a role of DM/CM could suit him. Furthermore, he is physically strong enough to play there ...

-His name is Lorenzo De Silvestri. It is a fallacious argument though.
-We can shift Zambrotta on the right side and make him play on the left. Zambrotta can play on the right like he did during the WC06.
-De Silvestri is not the starter because Lichtsteiner has been playing well. He could well be a starter in any other mid-level Italian club. He has shown his talent before and if he is give time to mature and develop, he can become a very good FB. Also, Lazio want to get rid of him so he will come cheap aroung 6-8 million euros. Lotito also has good relations with Galliani so I don't see any hindrances in buying him.

Why ? De Silvestri is a RB, Zambrotta can play on both sides ... why using Zambrotta on the right and put De Silvestri on the left when you can just use De Silvestri in his usual position and Zambrotta on the left side ??

Have you even seen him play?

Firstly his name is Di Silvestri
Secondly, he is a right back so wouldnt play on the left.
Thirdly, he isnt an immediate stater at Lazio so why would he be one at Milan?
his name is:

Lorenzo De Silvestri

and would be a great at milan

Milan have announced the signing of Real Madrid striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

Earlier this morning Rossoneri general manager Adriano Galliani confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Real Madrid for the frontman, and the official confirmation has now arrived.

A statement on Milan's official website reads:

"A.C. Milan communicate they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the purchase of striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

"The Dutch footballer will be subjected to the medical checks tomorrow, after which he will sign a contract which will keep him at the Rossoneri club until 30 June 2013."

Goal.com understands that Huntelaar has signed a four-year contract with the San Siro club. The transfer fee Milan have paid Real Madrid is believed to be €15 million.

This represents Milan's first significant signing of the summer. The Italian giants had made no secret of their intention to buy a top-class striker, and they will now be hoping that Huntelaar proves to be that man.

The 25-year-old, who only joined Real Madrid from Ajax in January for €20m, scored eight goals in 20 games for the Blancos before being deemed surplus to requirements following the return as president of Florentino Perez this summer.

De SIlvestri is not better than Antonini, and would just be useful if only to push Oddo further from a starting eleven place.

We should really have gone for Motta.

Yes, I have seen him play quite a few times. I remember him being Pato's thorn-in-the-side last year when we played Lazio (probably the only good thing Lazio had that entire day).

Milannews.it has Milan looking at either De Silvestri OR Drenthe

Yes you guys are right about the spelling.

But he still wasnt a starter at Lazio, so I dont believe he would force his way into our team. I dont see a mad rush for the player who starts ahead of him, so how good can he really be?

Arsenal are trying to sell Eboue.

Another option is to exchange Boriello for Santacrocce. Boriello may not get the time to show his worth now and while it would be nice to have a target man on the bench it would be a hell of alot nicer to have Santacrocce on the pitch.

Boriello is Naples born too, so they would be well up for taking him and if we offer a little bit of money on top we could have a our Nesta replacement ready, while he playsat rightback until Nesta retires.

damnnit almost got to 10,000! whatever, took B&G long enough, huntelaar is in my opinion a fantastic player who didntget enough of a chance at Real Madrid. he should do really well, and i like the idea of Pato and R80 on his flanks in a 4-3-3. maybe we can play beautiful football like barca! lol. but it would be great if we could also sign other dutchmen from real madrid, sneider or van der vaart and maybe robben. they'd be cheap too cuz real madrid are thankful we sold them kaka

robben is great, but injury prone, he is basically like glass, easy to break. i dont see sneijder leaving madrid, and if so, the would ask for atleast 25mil, so van der vaart is the best option from which you have called. and i would love to have him aswell.

Babel (though we are not linked yet) would also be great as he plays winger/striker and would make us more diverse offensively, as he can be a back up striker or winger, or even a starting winger if say pato or ronnie fell in form or we want to try ronnie in the mid field or something. i saw tha pool was ready to sell for 7mil pounds to Galatasary.

Just took a look at the CL draw, and seriously, I think Uncle Fester might actually be scared we'd end up 4th next season.

Look at the teams we could potentially be drawn against for the play-off games (given we'd be taking the non-champions path) just to get into CL proper:

Arsenal FC (ENG)
Olympique Lyonnais (FRA)
Club Atlético de Madrid (ESP)
Sporting Clube de Portugal (POR)
Celtic FC (SCO)
Panathinaikos FC (GRE)
RSC Anderlecht (BEL)
VfB Stuttgart (GER)
FC Timişoara (ROU)

over half of these teams couldn't be taken lightly.

On top of that, whatever happened to giving play time to Albertazzi?
To me, if Milan is to sign a new FB, he must be a huge upgrade from Antonini and Janku, if not, it is a waste of money.
All these talks about De SIlvestri is unreal, as the games I had seen him play since three yrs ago, he is not impressive at all. Quite frankly, he is overrated.

Milan battle Man U
Swedish starlet Linus Sjoberg is in the middle of a tug of war between Milan and Manchester United over his future, according to his agent. The much vaunted 15-year-old midfielder is currently on a week-long trial with the Premier League champions, but Per Jonsson claims the Rossoneri are also very interested in him. “Milan have also declared their interest, that is correct,” said Jonsson. “We chose to let him start at United, but Milan is also an option. They think he is extremely interesting and are impressed most by his technique.” The youngster himself is enjoying his spell with United. “It’s wonderful. Really cool to practice with United, it’s the biggest club in the world.”

Borri for Santacroce would be a good trade for both teams, as the players probably have a similar market value.

But we got Huntelaar because we lacked depth up front.. selling Borriello would just put us back to the start... although we would have a class defender...

Now let us hope Kaladze wants out.

we could potentially get a decent backup striker either on loan or for a small fee. Santacroce would make our starting 11 much stronger, and he is a signing for the future as well as the present. Also is we get desprate in the winter we could always try Adriano.

Brasileiro my dear friend i really hoped for fabiano, i really have high hopes of him, i like the ways he plays but as you noticed milan love to get unnecessary targets. but what can we say he is our player now so heads down, we have to support him i am still hoping for milan to sign hernanes because i feel leonardo wants him so bad. i hope leonardo convinced B&G about the importance to have a dynamic player like hernanes in our midfield. plus we still got one non-euro spot so i pray and hope it will be available for hernanes but who are we kidding milan aint gonna spend this kind of money (14 mil at least).

the best news is yet to come, i dont know how reliable is the le republica, but it claims that we are going to trade Kaladze for De silvestre :D. if this happens i would forgive the management for kaka honestly .

Maybe you didnīt notice my friend, but in my first post I said I would support Huntelaar all the way if he became a Milan player. But I would be lying if I wrote here that I was glad with his purchase. As I wrote, I hope he proves me wrong.

I strongly disagree mate. Athletico Madrid and Sporting are both strong sides with good squad play. On a good day, they could even give Man Utd a run for their money. Pana are a force to be reckoned with at home, and so too are Celtic (if you forgot, it took us a wonder goal from Kaka to settle the tie over 180+ Minutes the last time we met - in 07). The fact that Celtic have broken their duck away from home as well makes them really dangerous.

Potentially, thats 6 teams that could give us a run for our money.

Add to the fact that any of the top 4 from England could potentially end up 4th, same going with any of Barca, Mardid, Valencia or Sevilla in Spain, and that pretty much shows how tough it will be in the coming years for even a 4th place spot.

Top the fact that we have to contend with teams like Palermo, Fiore, Roma, Napoli and Samp for that 4th place spot, theres always the possibility that we could even slip out of that position as well...

[QUOTE=Dutchie-Milan;544212]Brasileiro you are always prefering Brazilian players above other players just because youre a Brazilian and i understand that, you have seen Fabiano playing since he was a youngster, thats why you are more excited about him then Huntelaar, because you know how fantastic Luis is and you havent seen Huntelaar play on a regular basis, while i have, and thats why i am also excited about Hunter instead of Fabiano, because we both know how great the players are.....but please, dont say that Hunter isnt good enough, not proven etc....because you are making a fool about yourself.

So, because I donīt think Huntelaar is that great as you Iīm a fool? Nice way to defend your point...A guy canīt lead Ajax to a champion, and is a bench player at Real Madrid(and not wanted by the new coach also), is a proven player? Because he score against Inter one time? You can say he could prove himself at Milan, fair enough, but until that day, Huntelaar will continue being a promise, period.

Look, since you talked about being a fool, if you were here for more time, you would not commit the error to wrote that...how I can say? "Unfortunate" first bold sentence...

Where are you when I wrote here that Tiago Neves, Jô, Alex Silva, Rafael Sobis, Dentinho, Juan Maldonado, André Santos, Lulinha, Oliveira, Breno, Adriano, Keirisson werenīt good choice for Milan?? Several repectable poster here were high on Sobis, T. Neves, keirisson and I always stand that despite te fact they are Brazilian, I really hoped that we didnīt buy them...

Where are you when I said that Mascherano(and Argie) was the player that we need to buy from South America? And Aquilani? And when I wanted Shweinstiger(sp?) and few agree? So, before make assumptions like that, you need to know what are you talking about. Before call others fool, watch your back, because the one make it of himself isnīt me...

Learn to respect a different opinion...and if the time proves you right and thet other wrong, come back here and have a good laugh about that.

Not being arrogant, but the only person who can judge Huntelaar really am i,and nobody else, maybe Filipez because he lives near Limburg in Holland, but the rest of you dont know him well enough to judge, you only seen the highlights from his small Real period,i only can judge because i know him by far the best and im telling you guys,he is simply the heir of RVN.
Sorry, but your statment sound arrogant. You think only you had a chance to watch Huntelaar in Eredivisie? Maybe before he goes to Ajax, because after it, he was every week in a Brazilian television playing for Ajax.

Since he came from the other team(Hereveen? canīt remember the name) in the middle of the Eredivisie to Ajax I saw almost all his game but his last season at Ajax. You clearly donīt know, but ESPN and ESPN Brazil always showed Ajax and PSV games here in Brazil. Ajax has a great numbers of fans here in Brazil. Damn, even my brother-in-law is a Ajax fan...Also, since the game were(is) showed early in the morning here, I always wake up to watch it. ALWAYS! Even because at that time(7 or 8 in the morning) there was no football on TV besides Eredivisie.

Holland NT also, because Brazilians like the way "The Orange" play football and we always have a channel showing their games here. Even the friendlys. So, besides Herenveenīs time, you canīt say that watched Huntellaar playing so much more than me...

You can desagree with my opinion, as other repectable poster often do it here, I have no problem with it. But until I saw Huntelaar perform against big competition in a regular basis(his goals in Madrid, Holland NT were against weak competition) I will go to allow myself to not believe heīs the new RVN.

Even if by that, I will be called fool by someone that donīt know me...

Yeah but i guess i will never accept the fact that Milan fans should be content with 4th spot and maybe CL quarterfinals.
My point was kinda that if Milan really needs to fear Sporting for CL spot then it is really a shame.
I have nothing against those teams , atletico and celtic are strong clubs but club of Milan's stature shouldn't really be scared if they are due to play Panathanaikos.

I see what you're saying King, but I think the worst thing a club can ever do is to underestimate any club. The best teams are the ones that treat Sporting the same as Man Utd.

I don't think the Milan players would actually fear Sporting now, it's not that there has been some massive transformation in the club to make it some small minnow. I think Milan fans and people who hate Milan like to describe us as somehow being a suddenly "small club," but the reality is that we are a massive team, and have tremendous history without having to rely on glory hunting fans like Man Utd, Real Madrid, and the like.

I honestly expect Milan to make the CL our primary concern rather than the Serie A. Is this unfortunate? Sure, but, I'm not sure the squad is designed for the Serie A as much as it is designed to win the CL. With a few more signings, and I'm talking 2-3, Milan could return to being a real force in Europe.

It seems Juve has their heart set on the Serie A, and I don't think Moratti, considering how much money he likes throwing around, is giving the tools for Mourinho to succeed in Europe.

However, I have hope because I don't think the squad preformed like they should be able to because of the insane schedule we had for pre-season. I also think Huntelaar will really change the dynamic of this team. Having a real goal-threat other than Pato changes things, puts the other team in an odd position, and puts us in the driving seat.

But the thing that really will put my hopes down is how Milan preforms in our next pre-season game. We've had time to train now, and while it is to be seen whether Huntelaar will even play in that game, as Borriello seems to still be very rusty, but it will be interesting to see how Milan responds to being able to actually train together and actually have some rest before they play.

I think a FB is important, I'd rather have the stability of Zambro on the left then getting someone new for the left side. If it is De Silvestri, then so be it, it means that Milan will be bringing in another young player to blood for the future. Sure, he's not at his best right now, but, if the club is willing to go for him, they obviously see something, right?

I just hope it doesn't come at the expense of Abate, I'm glad that many here see his value, and I hope that Abate will get a fair chance because while he might be listed as a winger, I think Abate's true worth is part of a midfield three. Abate--Pirlo--Flamini would be a great midfield core for a tough game, as Flamini and Abate have tremendous pace and running power.

I just hope the transfers don't stop with Huntelaar, but I think Galliani has hinted that it won't.

Regarding to my posts before, im not underestimating Sportings potential or something, the fact is Milan has a better team, and if we ever meet odds are in our favour. Thats why its better to get Sporting than Barcelona as opponent. :D

The second part is right 100% some of my friends who are Milan fans and some of people on forums now have view of Milan as a club on the level of Europa League clubs and that is not true.
But if B&G continue with their "no plan lets buy the cheapest player around" strategy that may be the case.

if we could somehow find a way to get Fabiano Santacroce to start at RB this year, I think that our defense would be very much improved. He would also be the heir to Nesta when he retires, and that also makes us a stronger club for the future.
I worry very much about R80, and i dont think he is as committed as he needs to be for this club. the lack of depth behind him is also worrisome. I think it is a shame that Alessandro Rossina is in Russia now instead of an Italian team, and for 7.5 mil he would have been a excellent backup player to R80. I hope we invest in someone who can help if R80 fails or gets hurt.
for how much he costs, Hernanes is almost a must buy. Our midfield could do with some young talent, outside of Flamini and Abate it is limited. Hernanes would allow for Pirlo to be rested at certain times, and in general in would help us heading into the future.

I'm not sure if Milan is really going after the cheapest player, just because they have suddenly become cheap. I think the biggest issue is that Berlu is Prime Minister during an economic crisis, thus spending money on his football team will not bode well for his political future.

I think Milan is a team that is hated by many other fans. Not in the same way the world hates Real Madrid, but in a different way. You see, everyone hates Real because they spend money without caring, they are a team perfect for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Milan, on the other hand, we have always been a great team. In the last decade, we have not exactly set the transfer market alight. Sure, we've spent a lot of money on some players, but it seems our best buys, were some of the cheapest. Stam, Cafu, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka, Flamini, are just some of the players that have come in for miniscule prices, if not for free.

When people complain that Huntelaar was our third choice, what choice do you think Pirlo was? How about Seedorf? Sure, they might not be the same players today, but, Pirlo was traded for Andrés Guglielminpietro, while Seedorf for Francesco Coco. Cafu came in for free, when he was supposed to swan song in Japan, but he served Milan for 5 very good years.

The spine of Milan's success under Ancelotti was built with the underpinnings of the previous era's linchpins, and I think we'll see the same thing with this new era. Our future will be based upon the spine of Thiago Silva-Flamini, Abate-Pato, Paloschi, Huntelaar. The gaps will be filled in, little bit by little bit, just like they were under Ancelotti.

I'm hopeful for this season, but, I don't expect the world. I think our new era will be based upon the players I mentioned above, because that is a good core of players to work with. But who knows, maybe we'll thrive with being a dark horse, and Beckham's return in January will hopefully give us an extra boost for the second-half of the season.

We're not complete yet, but the future should look bright, and the rebuilding process hurts, but as the Carlo glory years show, when the good times come at Milan, they stay for a long, long time. Forza Milan!

@Samaldinho

I think, people complained about Milan opted to buy the cheapest (last) option. Not really his price (coz it is cheap enough for a striker) but that Milan took the 3rd. option (not the first or second option). Whether he will be success or not, it is another thing.

Ibra isn't replaced by Eto'o only but by Eto'o and Milito ... so Inter will change their way to play, and I'm a bit afraid that they will be a lot stronger because they will have more weapons ...

Last year, without Maicon and Ibra, Inter was nothing ...

If Inter buy cassano or hamsik than they will be a real force to be reckoned even without these players they still have mancini and quaresma to attack down the wings these players may be complete flops at inter but they are talented players and very creative. You never know Milan could surprise everyone next season hopefully lol.

Samaldinho
06-08-2009, 16:37
I'm not sure if Inter have really addressed the major issue for them: That is creativity in the middle. Their midfield consists of players who would be equivalent to us playing a midfield of:

Gattuso--Redondo--Ambro
---------Flamini

I know Redondo doesn't play for us, but he's the closest thing to Cambiasso. Even then, Cambiasso is far less creative than Redonda ever was, so again, the comparison is not exactly correct.

At the end of the day, Stankovic is going to grab that spot behind the forwards. Sure, Stankovic isn't terrible, and he's actually a pretty good player, he is not exactly suited for that 1 spot in the 4-3-1-2 that Inter plays. They are missing someone, and I'm sure they would love to have Ronaldinho.

It seems indicative of their dearth of creativity that Maicon, who is a great attacking FB, is one of their principle creative forces. I mean, can you imagine relying upon Zambro, hell, Cafu, or even Maldini? Maldini was an all-time great, but can you imagine pinning your attacking force upon his creativity?

I think Juve are the more dangerous team to Inter in terms of attacking talent. However, when it comes to their backline, they are suspect. It's not even that Cannavaro and Chiellini form their center, it's their FBs that are the issue. Molinaro and Grygera are average, so is Zebina. Caceraces is a wild card, and he might turn up, he might not, but again, he's not exactly a sure thing. Legro is not exactly happy to even have Cannavaro there and there are questions over Canna's compatibility with Chiellini.

I think the only major question for our backline is whether Nesta stays fit, and who will play on the other side of Zambro? Thiago Silva needs experience next to him, but, I think he'll be a pretty good CB, I haven't seen any horror shows during pre-season, and it seems he'll actually be able to improve, unlike Onyewu.

I don't think Milan is exactly in the perfect place, but, while we may have more "if's" to our squads, what Juve and Inter lack are different to our shortcomings. Inter do not exactly have "ifs" but are simply missing players they need. Juve's "ifs" are not whether or not their players will be fit, but if they will preform. I honestly think we have a better FB core then they do.

Anyways, my opinion could change very much on this season and maybe I'll be proven wrong. I think Milan needs a few more players, but, I don't think we're that far behind Juve and Inter, not as far as everyone else says we are.

You know, OC, I really hope Onyewu can play well for Milan. Hell, I hope that anyone who wears a Milan shirt plays well for the team.

However, the thing that bothered me the most about Onyewu so far is that during these pre-season games, he didn't seem to show any sort of urgency. He did not play with the sort of enthusiasm that I thought a new signing would play with, and that was personally very dissappointing.

There is a good chance he simply was exhausted from this summer, but, at the same time, he did show flashes of commitment and that he was strong in the tackle. I guess I just don't like that he seems to give up when he knows he makes a mistake, but, again, he's just started, so I don't want to pass judgement from a few poor games on Milan's part.

the CB situation is important but not urgent. what we need is FB and central midfielder thats a must
we need sneijder/hernanez and a very good left back. i mean its good if we get de silvestri but its not gonna help since he is not a huge upgrade over janku and antonini. Grosso would do the trick for this year but we need to invest in order to avoid having the same problem next year.

I think its all nerves. US player huge european club, I think when he is playing this is the things that he says to himself "dont mess up, dont mess up, etc"

Let him settle down and we will see. I feel the same way as you, anyone wearing our colors i hope does well. But if he still messsing up half way through the season then bench him. And use him only when needed. But im happy that Leo gives players a chance, he believes.

Honestly guys i have new energy new passion for the club again. I love being the underdog, fine let Juve and Inter and other take us lightly. As long as the players that Leo fields show hunger and passion i think we will be the team that suprises others this year. CL is a diffrent story, i think the youth might hurt us there but this year is just the begining of the rebuild, next year is when im expecting bigger things. Just give me my top 3 finish this year and a nice strong run in the CL. Then next year i want the scudeti 100% ..sneijder

after most of you have gone crazy for Huntelaar's transfer, now it seems that some more of you are going crazy wishing that we get De Silvestri - who is another mediocre player at best. We need someone huge, we need a big big name to give us some enthusiasm. I still think we are so screwed for next year.

Samaldinho
06-08-2009, 20:12
You don't think Huntelaar is a big name? I can understand those who don't rate De Silvestri, but Huntelaar? Honestly, I don't know what to say...

I don't think we need a huge name, we all ready have our huge names. Plus, names don't win games, players do.

I don't see why that formation is so bad, apparently. I mean, our midfield is not designed to create, it is designed to hold onto possession. Our full backs push forward to give us width, while a guy by the name of Ronaldinho will be pulling the strings in the center, backed up by this guy who happens to pass the ball well, his name is Pirlo. Huntelaar-Pato strikeforce, are you kidding me? Mediocre?

I honestly think a full back is really what we need. I would say a new midfielder, but, I'd like to give Abate the chance to take a spot in the team, I think he has the talent and the desire to do it.

Watch the Chelsea game, or the Boca game, and just watching Ronaldinho. He honestly is slowly coming back to what he used to be. Not the same pace, but he's making smarter passes and getting used to the fact that he cannot make as many mistakes in La Liga. I think that's the big difference between the two leagues, in La Liga, mistakes are not punished as quickly as they are in Serie A. However, I am starting to believe that Dinho can really shine for us, we just need to get behind the team.

We need someone huge, we need a big big name to give us some enthusiasm. I still think we are so screwed for next year.

In our recent history I cannot recall of a time when we bought a big name player at his prime. Most of our current top players weren't established or were at their prime when we bought them. Then why should we expect to sign such players especially when we are not ready to shell out more than 15 million for a striker who is considered to be the most expensive player in a team.

The kind of big big name FB you recommend will cost around 20 million. There is NO WAY we will be willing to pay that kind of sum for any player, let alone a FB.

I would like our team to have De Silvestri because he has shown that he has talent in attack and in defense. If we can make something out of him, then there would be ne need for buying a big name player. In the worst case, if he flops, we would still be able to recover a good amount of money spent on him because he is young and he would still have suitors in the mid-level Italian teams.

There will always be ifs and buts. You can say that he is not willing to fight for his place in the team or something else, but considering all the elements involved, I would be willing to take a risk on him.

I am not Italian but I follow them a lot. When I see that only Pirlo and Gattuso are from Milan it hurts me as we are the best Italian team, internationally. Soon they will retire too. Only Juve have a lot of players in the Nazionale. So wouldn't it be great if De Silvestri can realize his talent and become a starter? I would think so.

goal.com is reporting that chelsea have thrown in essien in the pirlo deal. if this is the case (which, knowing goal.com it may not be) I believe milan would be fools to take it. essien is younger, faster, much more dynamic. He was recently polled as chelsea's most important player over the last few years (more even that john terry or frank lampard). essien + any amount of money for pirlo is more lopsided that the etoo+45 million euros for ibrahimovic deal (ok, maybe not but still) milan should take it and berlusconi should take his head out of his arse and not sleep during champions league finals

As much as I love the signings of Hunter(Dutch Gila IMO) as compare to the BEast or Pizzaro or even Fabiano, it is still not a strong enough team to challenge for the title.

I really hope that the whole Pirlo is staying thing is a smoke screen to hike up his price. As I don't think a 4-3-3 midfield suits him.

Then the defense really needs to clean itself up.
As there are just too many players but lacks real quality.

Nesta-Class but is injury prone
T. Silva-Class and he must stay healthy
Zambro-Class and he must stay healthy
Then you have Antonini who is solid and Favalli, who seems solid compare to the rest of CBs. Not going to comment on Gooch as he is new and unproven. Albertazzi is the great hope and I think he will do well when given a chance.

But then Milan have Kala, Oddo, and Bonera who should not be playing in Milan at all.
Then there is Janku who is good in offense and weak in defense.

if we put out a line-up of -
-------------Abs------------
-Zambro-Nesta-Silva-Ambro-
---Gattuso-Pirlo-Flamini--
----------R80-----------
--Huntelaar--Pato----

We would have Abate, Inzaghi, Borriello, Seedorf, Antonini, Janku, Albertazzi, Bonera, etc as backups. that is a pretty strong squad at the very least.
if this were the case, i would still like to see-

A new keeper- Dida and Kalac arent going to cut it, Stoari is ok, but i want someone else with talent, and preferably someone who has potential.

Cesare Bovo-He is a talented CB, but he can also play FB. He is still pretty young (26) and is better than Bonera. Our depth on defense is very thin at the moment, and he could really be a great backup for us, as he could step in for a injuried starting and give us quality minutes. we showed interest in him during the winter. shouldnt be very expensive.

Cristian Ledesma- He is another player that would add depth in the midfield, and he would be cheap, especially if we added a player like Oddo in the deal.

A backup for R80- if we could add a skilled playmaker that can attack that would make me much safer about this team, im not sold that Seedorf/Davide Di Gennaro could handle the spot if he starts to suck a lot or if he gets hurt. maybe they can. More insurance would be nice though

[QUOTE]

Easy there you are too good a poster to get bothered by some silly comments. We always value your opinion. :respect:

Milan Eye Up Gonzalo Bergessio To Partner Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – Report

Gonzalo Bergessio is being touted as a potential offensive partner of new signing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar at Milan.

The 25-year-old has been one of San Lorenzo's main goal threats since returning to South America in 2008, most notably scoring a double against River Plate in last year's Copa Libertadores to send El Ciclon through to the next stage.

After signing Huntelaar from Real Madrid, Rossoneri vice president Adriano Galliani quite literally took evasive action to avoid being questioned over the Milan’s future transfer activity.

This has led to suggestions in Friday’s Corriere dello Sport that Milan could raid the Argentine club for their star striker. Bergessio admitted earlier this summer that he felt he was ready to try his luck in Europe again, having had an unsuccessful stint with Benfica in 2007.

Bergessio, who has scored twice in three appearances for Argentina, is valued at €6 million by Diego Simeone's side, a price-tag that has dissuaded Villarreal and long-term admirers Catania from making a bid.

Most recently, the former Racing Club player has been in the news for causing a 'friendly' match to be abandoned after starting a mass brawl.

Bergessio's agent is expected to arrive in Milan next week to initiate talks, and if the deal goes through, it will place serious doubts over the future of Marco Borriello. The Italian missed much of last season through injury and is unlikely to find regular football at the Rossoneri.

The value of the money Berlusconi has isn't only in ... money. It is also all the things he owns like the firms, villas, etc.

We maybe need a classical CAM (so not someone playing or trying to play like Kaka'). The best ones were Gourcuff and Diego, they are now unavailable, so maybe we should look for one of the best CAM in the youth teams to be a replacement for Ronaldinho ... a guy who will have time to develop as Ronaldinho isn't too much injury-prone and Seedorf or Pirlo can play in his place if really needed.

I don't think we should put ambrosini at left back hes to defensive in my eyes and doesn't really have the speed to be a top lb.. i cant beleive were considering switching a mid to a lb to not waste money on a good lb that we havent had since serginho.. hasnt it got through berlusconi and gallians heads yet that we need to REBUILD our squad.. huntelaars a great addition upfront him ronaldinho and pato will be deadly next season, but we still need a good midfielder if not two and a good lb.

One other thing i keep pondering -- what ever happened to signing Rossi? wasn't it posted up on official milan website and then just disappeared? There had to be a reason for that:S

Here's the link for those of you who haven't been updated on that yet.
http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2009/07/27/1406927/official-ac-milan-website-announces-signing-of-giuseppe

Honestly, I think Galliani is aware of this.
At the beginning of the mercato we seemed like we were active on all fronts. When we actually "signed" Cissokho in mid June, then there was this invisible hand which made us want to lower the price (maybe rightly so if he really does have serious problems)... the hand of Berlusconi.
Galliani would be more active.. but he has zero funds.

I heard on the news last night that Real Madrid have actually given Milan a priority on all their players until August 30th (one day before the closing of the mercato).

I heard on the news last night that Real Madrid have actually given Milan a priority on all their players until August 30th (one day before the closing of the mercato).

That means nothing and everything at the same time ... If a club tries to buy Sneijder today for 25M, Real won't wait for us to move too and accept a 10M offer for example. That just means that if we make the same offer as another club, the deal will be automatically accepted for us (if accepted for the other club).

Saliwonczyk, we have the money to buy a big striker as Berlusconi said he gave the funds to buy one ... as Huntelaar seems to cost 15M, and like it seemed to be our initial budget, so we have something like extra 20M to buy what we want.

A FB + an offensive midfielder wouldn't be luxury ... :D
Our midfield is full of defensive ones: Ambrosini, Gattuso, Flamini. Our only really offensive midfielder is Ronaldinho. Pirlo and Seedorf can be seen like players who should be links between the defence, the midfield and the attack, but Pirlo, by playing just in front of our defence, doesn't do it well, and Seedorf can't play more than two games in a row, so I think we need someone else: to be this link between our defence, midfield and attack, or someone able to take the place of Ronaldinho to rest him (because I think it's obvious that Leonardo is going to try to use Ronaldinho as our main player, so he will play a lot of games, and it's not sure he will be able to do it after 2 years with few games).

EDIT: Di Genarro isn't really a midfielder, and he isn't really a pure striker too ... how can he be called ? :D

how rich is this albanian dude exactly? it definitely sounds like a pro to me, especially if that means investing more cash into the transfer market.. but the fishy thing about him is that he's been linked with buying Bologna for the longest time and the deal just never went through.

Well Fiorentina bought him last year for 7.5m and he only started to impress towards the end of the campaign. I don't know if they'll want to sell him, and I also don't know if they'll want to sell him to us in a price that we'd want to buy him at.

Interesting for our attack ... he showed in Fiorentina that he has a lot of potential for going forward or even playing like a winger, but defensively ... it's not a good option.

The Dude is rich actually..He was the man that arranged(read financed) the two friendlies that we played in Albania this year.

However I dont think he is that rich to make a diffrence at MIlan. maybe just this mercato he can.

He is an OIL taycun, and funny thing he is bussiness partners with Moratti, but has very close connections with Berlu too.

I dont know how much will he affect the team in a positive way, but I will be happy if this happen just because I`m albanian too. :respect:

If the guy wants to take some parts of the club, it's his right as far as the club sells some of its parts ... if he can allow the club to spend, let's say 10-15 more millions, that will be good and already enough (of course, if it is more, well, it's also good :D). So I'm also ok with this Taci guy wanting some parts of our club !!

Our depth in defense is far from thin. In fact we have to many players there at this moment which just will mean players like Albertazzi won't get any games. We already have the silly amount of FOUR reserves for CB. That is at least one to many.

Also, Bovo wouldn't improve us.

Ledesma isn't good enough to start with us and if we were to get a midfielder then we should get someone that improves us as we don't need bench players there.

A trequartista (AMF) or a seconda punta (SS).

Obviously he is a playmaker.

A playmaker can play pretty much anywhere in the midfield (but not so much laterally)... Pirlo is a playmaker (regista) but plays infront of the defence, but at the same time a trequartista is a playmaker/regista.

In Di Gennaro's case I dunno, but since some people coined him the new Rivera some years back(total bs), I'd assume he is a playmaker who plays in the trequartista role.

Wherever he plays tho, I dont think he has the skill to be a starter or even a valid sub. As a sub, Seedorf is much much better. If the kid improves, he still wont be 1st team material and will prolly be an eternal sub (a decent sub, as said, if he improves)

Even if by that, I will be called fool by someone that donīt know me...

Don't take it too personal...

And about Bergessio, I think he's crap, plus he's 25, plus we have signed a striker, plus we need the money to buy far more urgent targets.

We have Hunter Borriello Pippo Pato don't need a striker imo a LB and creative midfielder are bigger issues.

Borriello toNapoli for Santacroce thank you very much Il pack his bags for him , that sounds bad but Santacroce would be a great addition.

I just do not see why Napoli would sell him espoecially for 6 - 10 million.
